jeff leopard Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 Home taping is killing music. home taping is pruning the music industry this film looks really interesting. i'm really digging my battlestar galactica at the moment, and this seems to be going for a similar line in using sci-fi to address the kind of issues people aren't quite ready to address full on. battlestar galactica is all about looking at the war on terror from lots and lots of perspectives, including those of the terrorists themselves. and it draws the conclusion that if the roles where reversed somehow, america would very quickly adopt terrorist tactics, breaking down the stigma of the 'evil terrorist'. and this seems to be south africa looking at what happened during apartheid, and what still goes on today. i reckon if you don't watch babylon 5, stargate and deep space whatever, then you are not a geek. Baj Posted 21 August, 2009 Share Posted 21 August, 2009 Great movie, watched it this evening and really enjoyed it. There were one or two touches of hollywood storyline in there which for me spoiled the plot a little, but there's enough in there to make this a cult classic

Seany S Posted 4 September, 2009 Share Posted 4 September, 2009 Watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. When you consider the size of the budget and how fantastic it looks, plus the fact that a lot of dialogue was improvised, you feel that there is a very big future for this director. Very much a film in three acts, it goes from pseudo documentary, to bio-horror escape flick, to kick ass action at the end. Add in the excellent allegory to apartheid and Cape Town's District 6, and you have a hell of an original sci fi treat.
Smirking_Saint Posted 4 September, 2009 Share Posted 4 September, 2009 Just watched District 9 I admit, i hadn't heard anything about it, saw an advert on a website and seeing as it was directed by peter jackson i thought why not. And tbh, i am glad i did. Worth watching. Review An original and interesting concept.. It's got some good action and sci-fi parts but, the story is what makes this a memorable movie.. Peter Jackson mixed a lot of different styles into one movie (Cloverfield, Doom, Independence Day come to mind..). This movie was nothing like the previews made it out to be. There were various undertones of the "bad or ignorant" judgements past governments have made when it comes to an uknown entity (A round up into concentration camps for example). The worse part is that if Aliens really did come here like the situation in the movie the governments of the world would treat them like that.. (not my words but i couldn't put it any better myself in all honestly) 8/10 From the what films fred. Good film, and Lard, i agree, watch-movies-links is a good site, when you get decent copies. Also, if you 'work offline' after megavideo has loaded, you can get past the 70 min limit.
Seany S Posted 4 September, 2009 Share Posted 4 September, 2009 Smirking Saint - just to say it was not directed by Peter Jackson, he was the producer. Niall Kromkamp is the director.

Robsk II Posted 4 September, 2009 Share Posted 4 September, 2009 Setting it in South Africa is no coincidence.. this is surely very easily read as a damning indictment of apartheid.

Smirking_Saint Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 Apartheid was one thing, plus teh segregation of blacks and whites within america, i believe that many of the obvious influences are obvious, the whole thing stinks of the way civilisation treats differences within itself., no matter where you are.
