While he is our back-up we are screwed.

Turns when he should clear it, hoofs when he should look-up, pedestrian on the ball and would look average in the Blue Square.

Needs to be loaned out and hope for the best, not be our 3rd CB.

Garbage.

If I couldn't do my job u wiukdy be loaned out I'd be managed out. He's ****ing useless can't head can't tackle can't clear a ball, can't kick straight only perso. Whoa worse us wotton ffs

I didn't think he looked that bad tonight - was certainly better than in his cameo against HUddersfield.

Edit - I guess everything is relative!

Well,

that i am not sure about.

I didn't think you could with two ACL's and with a much smaller beer belly

Just to add my thoughts, which are pretty ground-breaking.....

Agreed, I haven's seen him before this season but actually he didn't do much wrong except that like the rest of the team in the first half he didn't seem to realise that we had changed ends before kick off. I don't think he was at fault for the goal (but I couldn't see very well because of the annoying pillar in the middle of the Arkells), and he gave the ball away less than Thomas, James, Spiderman and Wotton.

Agreed he's not great but as a back up in League One he is probably OK, but unfortunately with some when the mind id made up they see nothing good. There are worse problems with the team, most of them ending in Wotton.

People really annoy me at times - they think Ollie is crap so they will only ever see crap. The lad did a lot better than Thomas last night and at one point played a wonderful through ball that nearly led to a goal. They talk about experience, how they hell does he get experience if you don't let him play. It didn't help that Murty was missing but give the boy a chance for goodness sake not everything he does is as bad as people are making out. I'd rather have Ollie than Wotton any day at least he passes it to one of ours !

I thought that the first time I saw him & if anything he has got worse.

Every time i hear about Matt Mills I get angry - he could & should have been playing for us right now.

Same with Craine, those two where really badly managed by the club by various different people.

damn right, i thought he played ok last night too. Wotton is surely out of the reckoning now Hammond has arrived. Fingers crossed![-o

He's not ready for first team football at this level. He's not the worst player in the world, he just needs to learn how to toughen up a bit. A loan out would do him the world of good.

Worryingly for us, he's not even really back up at the minute. He looks to be alternating with Perry, as his old legs can't handle a game every week. We desperately, desperately need 2 new CB's.

Posted

He in no way should be a paid professional footballer. Incredibly poor, no pace, weak, can't read the game, the list goes on.

I feel he is more suited to local league or a team like Winchester or Salisbury. It would be great if Bournemouth took him on loan but i fear he would be found out at league 2 level as well

Posted

He did OK last night, but much as I hate to criticise players who pull on the Saints shirt, he really is not good enough (at the moment) to play in the first team - certainly not in such a crucial position given our track record on set piece defending. Trouble is we have no alternative (yet).

This thread is nice for the young lad and his family.

If he's not already depressed and disillusioned he certainly will be now...

Completely agree - it's more than likely he reads this site.

However i dont think at the moment he is anywhere near good enough but slatting him in public is not the answer. It seems to be the case that most of the people on here are thick as s**t and know nothing about football so at some point they have to be moaning about one player. your menat to support you team, some people on here need to start doing that!

Finally back to the original point he needs to go on a season loan to league 2 where he can learn the game and build strength and confidence.

Unless it galvanises him to prove people wrong...?

But, yes, in principle, I don't see overt public criticism as the most positive way of helping his cause.

I was supporting the team last night, and noticed that, again, Lancashire was sh*t

This may or may not be his fault, he could just have been born like it. But he is our back-up at CB. Which is worrying.

If he does read the site (i doubt he pays a 5er to read the main board tho, if he looks at all) then i hope he proves us wrong

He is our back up at centre back....back up to 2 **** poor centre backs. Hes a poor player, he doesnt have any particular strength, hes more a jack of all trades, all being very poor.

I hate picking on individual players, but lets be honest, hes ****, so is Wotton, so is Perry, and a few others.

Well done Dean Hammond on putting such a brave face on joining a team 18 points adrfit of ur former club....at least the bigger pay packet will help.

Technically at the club we have five Centre backs, or players that can play centre back, who are in or around the first team squad, thats Perry, Thomas, Lancashire, Wotton and Mellis (alledgedly). I wouldn't have any in my first team to be perfectly truthful, hence the need for two newbies. Perry started his career as a right back, but despite his height was converted to centre back. Thomas, as I've said before, would've been shot if he'd been a horse and would now be Pritt Stick. Wotton should be shot full stop if what I read on here is to be believed. Lancashire is not a League One player, a red card waiting to happen, and Mellis is, as yet, untried and perhaps best suited to being outfield.

Whilst we have this set of centre backs, it's hard to know what to do. Thomas, I suppose, is our best centre back, so long as he stays fit, but I wouldn't partner any of them with him.

Could Harding play centre back? Having not seen him play, people say he's very good defensively... Just wondering. Then we'd have Mills at left back when fit.

Hey ho, stick with the familiar until we get the new centre back. Thomas and Perry.

You can also say the same about pretty much every player last night with the Exception of SKD and the strikers. I only say this about the strikers as they were completley starved of service. I dont think E'to and Rooney would score goals in this team as the service is so poor. The problem is the Saints academy are living of the glories of Walcott and Bale and because of these two exceptional players, the rest of the graduates are thought of in the same way where the two fore mentioned have more talent in their little toes than their former ex team mates, And for this reason I think that certain players may have had their carreers ruined by being thrown in to the lions den too soon, which the person to blame is Rupert fookin Lowe

Agreed. I still hold some hope for Thomas. Let's not forget that the guy has been out injured for a very long time. I'm prepared to give him a couple more games to get up to speed before I start calling for him to be discarded.

Rather than completely destroy him as a person and footballer just maybe rephrase things to something along the lines of he just is not up th standard that Saints need! I hope he does not read this site cos if he does then this could really shatter him and out us even more in the mire when we may have no other alternative than use him in games.

Thought Lancashire did OK last night. Much better than I had expected after his 10 minute spell at Huddersfield. Still needs to improve and all that, but I'm more worried about Thomas and Perry than I am Lancashire.

Posted

Thought the back of 5 of Davis, Murty, Thomas, Perry and Harding looked the best combo I have seen in a good while against Millwall.

Lancashire needs to get a bit of confidence back and maybe a loan away is the answer. From memory he was a talented youth prospect and to be fair has had to ensure playing in a losing team at a key development time for him.

Olly is like so many young players he needs a role model within the team, who was our last proper better than average CB?

Claus ? who struggled without Killer

Killer ? last real game V Liverpool 2004

Baird ? RB who stepped in due to injury

Olly also suffers as we no longer play against proper reserve teams thanks to prem deciding that only prem teams can play their reserves

Posted

I don't think last season did him any favours getting sent off in his first start, then again later in the season I believe. Couple this to playing in a team that liked to make our 18 yard box the Alamo, without a commanding partner to learn from.

The last thing that you need to be told by the fans is that you are sh1t, that just makes matters worse especially when you know have 20,000 pairs of eyes watching you at home, the bulk of whom are waiting to moan and groan if you make an error.

You don't fluke your way through the academy system into the first team, AP must see something in him to pick him in the team. Maybe a loan spell when we have enough cover might be the tonic he needs.

Needs to go out on loan, firstly to a Conference team (Oxford, or similar), then to a League 2 team (Torquay) to try and build some confidence. He may find that either of those are his actual level but he may excel and come back to us a much better player.

Posted

Ollie needs to be loaned out to a League 2 club to regain his confidence. He must have had skills to have got as far as he did. He needs to play a few games in a winning side. He won't get that here while he is in the team, I fear. One for the future, possibly, but the jury has to be out on that.

He certainly wasn't the worst player on the pitch, thats not saying much though,is it.

Just needs to build his confidence up again.

He is certainly crap at the moment but he is young for a centre half and should only be loaned out not jettisoned. He may turn into a different player when he gets some body weight - at the moment he is just pushed off the ball

Posted

I agree he should be loaned out, because he is bloody carp at the moment !!!

See how he does with a couple of teams a few divisions below, seeing him play it is not just his physicality, he seems tactically inept and is out of position far too often.

Saying that, the last completely sh*te centre back we had seems to be making a career for himself, where is calum these days ??
