As hard as it may be. This team is at least a month behind where it should be, due to how late the takeover happened and then APs appointment. He has had no real pre-season to get the squad how he wants it. There are an awful lot of games left and a lot of points to be gained. Yes things look pretty bad at the moment, but lets hold off the big red panic buttons until xmas. The new owners have already said they have a five year plan in place. Thats 260 weeks, not 2. My personal view is that this season is all about survival, knocking out the -10 points and staying in the league, and stabilising the club. For me a mid table finish would be a real result. The owners are already showing they are backing the manager, and for once we have a boss with a proven track record, and hopefully now a board that will listen too him, but he needs time.

Keep the faith people, it won't happen overnight, but it will happen. And to hose muppets who are already calling for APs head, **** off to stamford bridge or some other plastic football wonderland:mad:

Too right and........we're still unbeaten at home all season!

We played 4-5-1 with no width, the one up front was easily dealt with because the lack of pace and support from the midfield wasn't there.

It is not the formation that is important as decent teams continually change as the game progresses.

We have no balance and players out of position causing us to be shapeless as they lack discipline and play off the cuff creating and achieving nothing.

The goal had three forwards in front of Morrison but nobody attacked the ball which is what the centre backs should be doing. Bringing 10 players back into the penalty area is causing problems as they are all waiting for somebody else to take responsibility.

It needs 2/3 to be left upfield which will take 3/4 opponents back to the halfway line and more than likely get two more to drop outside the penalty area that then leaves 4/5 attackers to take on 6 defenders with a GK + 2 on the goal line. The centrebacks then have the room to attack the cross with the other players picking up tightly.

Until the team is disciplined enough to play touchline to touchline and maintain it's shape with two strikers getting on the end of crosses from the byeline we just won't score enough goals.

The width is the key, it stretches the defence and allows attacking runners from the midfield to cause mayhem. It gets done to us all the time it's about time we started doing it to opponents.

Lallana possibly Schneiderlin, Lancashire need to go back to the reserves, play in their best positions and build up confidence to come again initially with appearances as substitutes in games we are winning not as key players struggling to perform.

Good point on defending. I've always been surprised that Saints seem to put 10 or even 11 players on defensive duties when we give away a corner.

What needs to be remembered is how bad last seasons team was.

That team forms the nucleus of this seasons team.

Alan Pardew is making changes, but it's going to take time.

Now is the time to support the club.

Two weeks later two points won

When will it be alright to panic?

In the "good old days" it would only be around the six game mark that the media would start posting the league tables. We now live in a breathless, hyped up world where Sky can spout with dead seriousness the cliché that it "might be too early to win the title but its certainly not too early to lose it".

I'm not worrying just yet - what i want to see is similar to the end of 2005/2006 season, our first season in the championship. With the instability of Redknapp's departure and wise-bassett's caretaker mangership, Burley took over what was a pretty precarious situation. We eventually pulled away with a month or so to go (I obviously don't mean we leave it so late this time) and went on a run that took us to lower mid-table. Not great seen overall but the momentum set the foundations for a proper play-off/promotion push the next season.

If we did not have the ten point deduction there would be no concern really but that deduction is a bit of a worry
