St Lej Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Exactly, tonight was one step too far. Looks like AP will need to replace pretty much everyone (bar KD) who was here before he arrived. This sounded like an absolute disgrace by all accounts
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Very worried about this. Spoke to a mate of mine who supports Charlton and he said, when AP left them, they had 7 forwards and only 2 centre-backs and were leaking goals like a sieve. He kept saying they needed defenders but they never signed any. Don't want to criticise the fella given it's only been 3 games but this is sounding remarkably familiar...
Paul Chuckle Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Absolutley disgraceful from what i heard, think we need at least 6 new players. Bloody awful
Thedelldays Posted 18 August, 2009 Author Posted 18 August, 2009 this is now a joke.. I was so optimistic...even shrugged the huddersfield defeat off.. but swindon town....jesus christ

RobM Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 You defend from the front... I agree entirely we need two new CB's and I wouldn't for a second argue against it, but I have a feeling our defensive performance will improve with a more solid midfield.
Deanovski Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 ew couldve got JPS in and hes better than any of our CBS and even COVER if we get in more CBS ffs.
S-Clarke Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 this is now a joke.. I was so optimistic...even shrugged the huddersfield defeat off.. but swindon town....jesus christ +1 serious problems, not sure what to say. Do we really need a new team completely? starting to look like it.
Bailey Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Hate to say it, but Pards has got a bit to answer for tonight. His team selection was baffling to say the least. Why is Gillett not in the side? Why is Holmes nowhere to be seen? Why play Wotton when he clearly isn't up to it? Why wait til stoppage-time before bringing Rasiak on? For me, our best team would be this: Davis Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding Lallana - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Holmes Lambert - Saganowski Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, James, Gillett, Gobern, Rasiak, Paterson

dubai_phil Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 1) Yes we need CB's and HAVE done since Killer got injured 2) BUT, even JT would struggle in this team at the moment as there simply is nothing in front of them It's very difficult stopping a Tsunami even with a big breakwater
NI76 Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 this is now a joke.. I was so optimistic...even shrugged the huddersfield defeat off.. but swindon town....jesus christ Maybe now you'll stop being so sarcastic then when other posters try and tell you how crap we are and how many signings we need?
SO16_Saint Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 absolute fecking disgrace. the 'all time lows' keep getting lower.
Saint_Mabes Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 I'll tell you what, i've been 110% supportive and excited by Pardew being manager, but he has a hell of a lot to answer for IMO!!!!! Absolutely crazy selection. I only listened from half time but was he playing Paterson on right and Mellis up front (behind lambert)??? Had he decided to leave Gillett on the bench whilst still playing Wotton, and finally...DID HE LEAVE IT UNTIL ABOUT 10 MINS 'TIL END BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGE!!!!?? Was absolutely crying out for subs to be used between 60 - 70 mins! I can't believe it.

People are saying its all the players but there is not a single sign of tactics unless you call hoofing it tactics. No direction and no pattern of play which to me points to the manager!!!!
Bailey Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 so mills who has actually proven himself in this league and looks one of our best young players doesn't make the squad, but lallana keeps his place because...? I forgot about Mills, but I'd happily have either he or Holmes at left-midfield. Can't understand why Holmes can't get near the team. If the rumours are true that he's on the verge of leaving, then I find it baffling to be honest. He's our only natural winger and arguably the best left-sided player at the club.
Ed Rooney Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Davis Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding Holmes - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Mills Lambert - Saganowski Subs: Bialkowski, Lallana, James, Gillett, Gobern, White, Paterson
JonnyLove Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 this is now a joke.. I was so optimistic...even shrugged the huddersfield defeat off.. but swindon town....jesus christ I should point out that swindon in this league are not that bad and can you remember the last time we won at their ground. Saying that yes I do agree we need a CB and decent CM but be fair we have only been going about a month so we all know it will take a bit of time to sort it out.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 ffs...only been about 4 years or so... You need to get a grip mate - you spend half your life on here berating people who dare to criticise (having been to the games) and then you start a knee jerk thread having a go at the club for not signing a centre half - this after telling us Thomas is the best thing since sliced bread. May I suggest, with respect, you spend less time at your keyboard typing a load of crap and get your arse out there and actually take a look at a game or two. And then come back on here and give us the benefit of your undoubted intellect.

If the rumours are true that he's on the verge of leaving, then I find it baffling to be honest. He's our only natural winger and arguably the best left-sided player at the club. Thats because Holmes can see that Pardew will not play wide men - that's just one of his many faults. I'm not joking when I say he is looking incompetant Pardew that is.....

Thedelldays Posted 18 August, 2009 Author Posted 18 August, 2009 Oh..FF do you not think the we need a CB and yes, I do believe thomas is about the only one who could do a job in this league if partnered with the right person.. or am I not allowed to say that as I dont go as much as you.. is that what it has come to again..? who goes to games and who does not..?
eurosaint Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 so mills who has actually proven himself in this league and looks one of our best young players doesn't make the squad, but lallana keeps his place because...? also, drop thomas and perry and just play two trees. they'll block more and hold position better. That's because he is injured !!
Katalinic Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 (edited) Davis Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding Holmes - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Mills Lambert - Saganowski Subs: Bialkowski, Lallana, James, Gillett, Gobern, White, Paterson What is worrying is Perry, Thomas and Lancashire are all weak links in defence. Spiderman is too lighweight in midfield as is Lallana. Holmes is left footed so it appears we have option on the right (Thomson only seems to be able to play well against non-league teams). Gobern, White and Patterson are not ready. James is ok at RB but not in midfield, Wotton is not good anywhere. Saga and Rasiak don't want to be here - so what are we left with.....not much. If this was the start of pre-season then Davis, Murty, Harding, Gillett, Hammond, Lambert, Mills are probably the only ones who I would keep (as well as loaning out a few youngsters). unfortunately we are having to have our pre-season in August and into September. Edited 18 August, 2009 by Katalinic
Micky Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 lallana need dropping There's a queue - wait your turn eh...!
SNSUN Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 I'm glad i only had to put up with the game tonight by reading what was on here, but from the sounds of it we were shyte, with not even attempts to get back into it. It's now blindingly obvious to everyone we need two centre backs. Thomas has more injury problems than A&E, Perry is so old i'm suprised he hasn't been turned into glue yet, and Lancashire is a red card waiting to happen. I'm hoping Hammond steels up the midfield a bit, a lot rather, as it needs it. As has been said before, without pace in the side we'll never threaten anyone. This loss is the worse of the two, especially after Huddersfield romped home 7-1 tonight, but I still think Pardew will have brought in at least one centre back by Saturday. He surely has to. If he doesn't, well I still think we'll win on Saturday, but we'd all sleep better in our beds knowing Lancs and Wots weren't in the first XI!
NI76 Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 cheers....for that..did not realise this was not a place for opinions we all know you are ITK and love to show it off... will certainly go to games if, you can pay for my petrol for the £350 mile round trip every weekend..? deal..? Of course it's a place for opinions, it's just the obnoxious and sanctimonious way you put yours across. The fact that most of them end up being proved wrong, i.e. "Wotte will keep us up" and that you base them having not seen many games just makes it worse.
modern matron Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 1) Yes we need CB's and HAVE done since Killer got injured 2) BUT, even JT would struggle in this team at the moment as there simply is nothing in front of them It's very difficult stopping a Tsunami even with a big breakwater Phil, perhaps you might consider my point of view with a litle more respect now? I have been roundly criticised by you and others for suggesting change is to slow and that we need to overhaul this squad quickly. You gave me a bull**** lecture on how the Swiss way is slow and measured, and that poor AP hasn't got coaching or scouting staff and is so busy etc etc. Well frankly that's bull**** and I'm sick of it and want some change quickly before we are in div 2. It was bad enough last season but jeez this is worse!!!! 2 CB's a winger and a fast striker as a minimum. Get rid of or put in the reserve players tainted with a losing mentality.....
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 cheers....for that..did not realise this was not a place for opinions we all know you are ITK and love to show it off... will certainly go to games if, you can pay for my petrol for the £350 mile round trip every weekend..? deal..? I haven't got a problem with you not going to games because you live a long way away but you sure have a big gob for someone who doesn't go to matches - perhaps you would be better served respecting the opinions of the fans that do go and keep quiet until you get to a match yourself - then your opinion will hold a little more water.

I hold my hands up, I am wrong sometimes, so what. does it effect your day and make you (and FF) feel the need to have a pop at someone rather than debate the subject posted.. sad really, when you think about it...
Micky Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Everybody here seems to think that a couple of CB's will be the answer to our problems - but from what I heard tonight, they wiped the floor with us in midfield, we never created a chance and never scored a goal. Gonna need to be some CB to sort that little lot out. Well played KD, again.

I have been roundly slagged off for my opinion that change is taking to long, and we are going to be in a real mess if we carry on like this. I read that NC is having to spend a lot of time dealing with creditors hence slowing transfers up.Why!!

thorpie the sinner Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 still sat at the computer in stunned silence! close to tears!! yep, its just a football club, but its no differnce when you care about something!!! just hope it can be sorted!

Rest of the team is what id play though.
The Fat Controller Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Davis Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding Lallana - Schneiderlin - Hammond - Holmes Lambert - Saganowski youd be better off with James at RM then Lallana floating behind Lambert
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Calm down, it will be ok, it is the start of the season, honestly ?? We are not going to get promoted this season, i think possibly if we get things sorted then we will. But it is the beginning, AP is bringing players in, AP is getting used to the team. I admit i am concerned however i am not alarmed. We need some more steel and creativity in midfield, i feel AP is sortin that with Melis and Hammond. Our defence is weak and set piece prone, it has been for ages, and if AP is not working on that in training he will, that and he is obviously looking at CB's, he has stated it, for me thomas is a waste of space, which is a shame for a man like a bus, i have said it before and i say it again, he is just not dominant enough. Lambert is scoring that is a plus, and as soon as we match him with a real worker it will prove dividends. Have patience, i feel it will be ok. But then, i am far too optimistic
Rebel Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 its not AP's fault we don't have the players in the squad to put out a decent team - give him a chance we have no CBs in their 20's, no right midfielder or winger, no 20 something right back, only one striker in his peak years we need players between the age of 23 and 29 for each and every position Andrew Davies, Chris Baird, David Pruttpn, Chris Hackett, Phil Ifil, Craig Bryson, Craddock, Eastwood off the top of my head I not saying we should sign them all but there is no reason why we can't get most if not some of them!
saints-cris Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 It is frustrating, now dont get me wrong. Lambert is a quality signing.. but my god we need a defence. Full backs are fine, hes addressed that, but oh my god.. please, please can we get a defence. I would love to think of our Saints side as capable of nicking 1-0 wins. You build from the back surely? If we dont concede many then we can do that! 2 CB's needed. I know its very early days and im trying to shrug off these defeats, and im sure we will turn it around, but we gotta knock these points off asap, and i just dont want us to sort it all out too late.
Alain Perrin Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 lallana need dropping Lallana needs shooting. Until he can... 1) Give us some width and not wander into the middle at every opportunity. I'm all for licence to roam, but he takes the ****. 2) Learns to tackle and get close to his man when not in possession. 3) Provides support to his left back (see 1) 4) Not receive every ball and move it backwards (I swear, every time he got the ball tonight he moved back 4 yards before thinking of moving it forward - oh, too late, closed down). He's got good tricks and skills, but for me he's too lightweight, tries to do to much with the ball, too late. I don't think he's a winger. And I think he's too lightweight for the centre of midfield. A conundrum.
Saints foreva Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 We need at least two CBs, a winger and a striker. If we don't we may find another relegation battle here. Tonights performance was one of the worst I have ever seen since relegation from the Prem.
alehouseboys Posted 19 August, 2009 Posted 19 August, 2009 We need at least two CBs, a winger and a striker. If we don't we may find another relegation battle here. Tonights performance was one of the worst I have ever seen since relegation from the Prem. Quite obviously we do but it's gonna get harder and harder attracting any decent player here when we're performing like that and rooted to the bottom of League One on -9. We're the best part of a month behind everyone else thanks to our calamitous pre-season so as notorious bad-starters...on minus 10...it was always gonna be ugly. Kelvin Davis has already proven to be the steal of the century. Thank f*ck for that!
