I actually think it's more to do with the team selection. Lallana isn't a left-midfielder, Wotton isn't good enough and the team is unbalanced. Ideally, I'd like to see this quartet make up our midfield:

 

Lallana - Schneiderlin - Gillett/Hammond - Mills/Holmes
