waggy Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 I'm a bit worried that - for some strange reason - we're announcing 'advanced' talks with Hammond before we've actually signed the fella?!?! What's that all about? Especially as his boss has just this minute joined Norwich. * Hammond's mobile rings " Hi Dean - it's the gaffer. Look - I've just joined Norwich as you know - and I realise you're in talks down there on the south coast - but I bought you - had faith in you - made you skipper - how's about popping up here & having a chat with the director? I'm sure we'll match whatever Southampton offer you...and we're not on minus 9 points either son! " Old habits/kicks in the teeth never change at SFC! Colchesters chairman has just released a statement explaining to the fans why he has let Hammond join Saints, basically the cash offer was to good to turn down and he would have been a free agent soon anyway. .comsaint Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Thing is, I doubt they WILL match what we offered. Well if that scenario does happen - we'll be left with more egg on our faces than in one of Delia's quiches!

St Marco Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Would be a good player for us. Someone with the ability at this level to push the club forward. A bit of a midfield general who has the attitude this club is so desperate for. However He is not an attacking player. He does not create chances. He in fact only has 1 assist last year. He will make the midfield more solid and that is something we needed badly. I just hope then we can add a new CB or maybe 2. And at least an attacking creative midfielder. Without creating chances we will not score. So welcome Dean. You are a player we have needed for sometime. Goodluck to you

Cabrone Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Looks like an excellant signing. We've been waiting for a commanding CM for ages and finally we might just have one. If Hammond can do the ball winning duties Schneiderlin will then be able to open up his passing game. This means that the wide men and strikers should get better service. The lack of bite in CM has been at the heart of our problems - hopefully this will solve it. Got to say it feels great to be the club that is doing the raiding rather than the one being asset stripped!
EFM Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 At this bloody rate we'll be going up and stuff. Bollocxs I say. I want us to be building very very very very very slowly for the future, not actually going and bloody signing good players at this time of the season when they might make an immediate impact and lift us into Hopesville arleady. Personally I'm a little disappointed with ML's readiness with his cheque book when I had hoped for at least 5 to 15 years in this division consolidating. Who the fxxk next? kpturner Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 All a bit fishy if you ask me. Why announce that we are in "advanced talks"? Is he halfway through writing his signature with a pen that keeps running out of ink or what?

''I alone made the decision to allow Dean to move to Southampton and I did so because Dean was out of contract at the end of the season and he did not want to extend his stay with the U's beyond that time. Dean has been a fantastic player for Colchester United, but the fee I have received for him will allow the club to go out and find a worthy replacement that will also be here for next season and the one after that.'' Is he halfway through writing his signature with a pen that keeps running out of ink or what? I'm guessing he needs to have a medical. As far as we can tell from what their chairman has said the two clubs have agreed a fee. So as he says he would not sign a new contract and wanted to leave next summer for free, meaning he obviously wanted to leave. So i guess the club now can speak to the player and sort out personel terms, have the medical and that will be it. Once a bid is accepted very rarely does a player then decide not to go. Another good player no doubt? This is the slippery slope to success I feared most. I know what you mean. I was settled on the prospect of several years surviving in this division by the skin of our teeth, with low ST prices and the odd win to keep me happy. As things are going, we will get promoted back to the Premiership, ticket prices will soar, all sorts of plastic fans will join us, including many of the worst specimens locally who are currently wearing Skate blue. It will be far more difficult to win games and instead of watching the honest endeavours of the lower division English footballers, we will be watching the imported Johnny foreigners being paid obscene sums of money and diving all over the pitch theatrically. We won't be supporting our local football team, more like pledging allegiance to some Worldwide consumer brand.
