Steve Claridge seemed to rate him a couple of years ago:

Sounds ideal.

This is the part that I liked best:

His team-mates trust him with the ball even in tight areas and so they should because he has got a fantastic first touch and his retention of the ball is excellent. Defensively, too, he is spot-on, which is a real plus, and in fact when defending at corners he marked one of Yeovil Town's biggest players, Scott Guyett, matched him then mastered his aerial ability. He was just as impressive defending at free-kicks - when the ball was cleared he did not rush out before the danger had passed, like I used to do, but stayed with his man. During this game his patience and concentration were rewarded when the ball was lobbed back in and his challenge on the player he had been marking saved a certain goal.

Hammond sounds like a good player. I've just spoken to a Brighton supporting mate and he rates him. He said that he could definitely do a job in the CCC and at 400K we've got a real bargain. Hopefully Hammond's imminent arrival will result in Wotton being dropped to the bench, but I can't help but feel slightly sorry for Gillett. He must be scratching his head and wondering why he can't get in the team. He was a regular for us last season and was one of the few positives to take from an otherwise miserable campaign.

Sounds like a good player, exactly what we need. Now we must get a right-midfielder, a centre-back and a striker to replace Saga and Rasiak if/when they go.

Surely TWO strikers are needed if they go? We can't just have Lambert & Patterson leading the line!

Gillett? The one who couldn't pass or keep the ball for toffee?

I blame his sponsors....

With the Colchester manager leaving for Norwich, is nobody else nervous that he may try and take Hammond with him?

From U´s OS "We will also be looking to get a clause where no Colchester players will head to Norwich before the end of this season as part of the package."

Heard that Ipswich have made a bid too from my mate here.

I said yesterday that I dobted if we'd complete the deal ........

.... Announcing that we were "In advanced talks" went against how ML/NC have conducted the Business in the past

Alerted every other Club for a start

Right can I vote that every idiot who said the way the OS announcement was handled and fretted he would back out and go to Norwich and clearly didn't look at the various facts or anything further than their own wild imaginations be banned for a week or so?!

Good signing, another CB before the weekend, Murty back, Wotton out of sight and we have a chance against Brentford.

What's going on with Lee Holmes BTW, could give us the width we are severely lacking?

Sure some players must sold or released now ? The squad is getting rather big again.

We now have alot of central midfield options, Hammond, Schneiderlin, Wotton, Gillett, james, Lallana and wingers Holmes & Thomson.

Plus Pulis of course

This is exactly what we need to be doing - buying the best players from this league. They should fall within our budget and be should also be good enough for the league above.

Given that players always score against their previous club I suggest we buy one player from each of our rivals and then go for 1-0 wins.
