Ajantha Mendis Biography

His first Test Match was against India at Colombo in 2008 in which he returned match figures of 8-132, thereby becoming the first Sri Lankan bowler to get an eight-wicket haul on Test debut. He has played 8 Test matches for Sri Lanka taking 39 wickets with best innings figures of 6-117, and best match figures of 10-209.

Mendis has also played 30 ODI’s taking 66 wickets with best figures of 6-13 coming against India in the Asia Cup. His 17 wickets in the tournament earned him the Man-of-the-Series award.

Heard on Solent this morning signing is in doubt through Mendis increasing unavailability.

Hants have a new target whom they have offered a contract but as he has not signed yet they are not saying who.

As the report on Solent came from Kevan James it has a high level of credibility.

Katich would be a very handy signing. I'm not so sure about relying on Briggs and Dawson as the main spin options though. Briggs looks a very capable spinner, but must have only have played a handful of games and from what Dawson's bowling, it stills need a lot of work.

Anyone have any idea about the other T20 signing? Unless, he has already been snapped up by someone, how about Shane Bond?

Looks like it will not be Katich. He has had no contact.

Club are now saying they are close to signing a quality spinner for championship games.

Also a player for T20. Could it be Brett Lee??? He has now retired from Tests and Bransgrove and he are good friends. Shane Bond says no approach for him.

Expected to finalise this weekend and unveil on Monday

Thanks for update, very interested to see who the spinner is. Would be very happy though not surprised if we got Lee for 20/20.

Seems Simon Jones is progressing well, fingers crossed !

Yeah I was wondering what was going on as well. The Brett Lee one wouldnt surprise me at all. He had a long chat with Bransgrove when the Aussies played England in the ODI here.

Looking forward to watching the Hawks again (or is it now the Royals?), although we start with 4 games away from the Rosey.

Excited about the prospect of signing Brett Lee. If he can stay fit. We already have Simon Jones to worry about on that front.

Who do we think for the 'quality spinner' then? Personally, I would love it to be Vettori. Or Warney of course.

And congratulations to Carbs for getting into the England side, despite a knock of just 5 in the first innings against Bangledesh A.

Abdul Razzaq set to sign for the T20's and the spinner to be added by end of the week -

Good signing, I'm just hoping now we do get the quality spinner that has been on ther cards since it was announced that Mendes was not going to sign. He did lose form a few months ago whilst playing for Sri Lanka so that news was not so surprising nor disapppointing and as mentioned we do have Dawson and Briggs.

A bowling attack of Kabir Ali, Dimi, Jones ( if fit!), Ervine ( in short bursts only please ! ) Dawson/Briggs and a quality spinner would be very useful indeed with Tomlinson, Griffiths and Riazuddin as back up. Have I missed anyone ?

Edit: Oh my lord, how could I forget Corky !
