St.Patrik Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Really doubt any new player(s) will arrive before tomorrow sadly.
westmidlandsaint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Davis Murty Perry Thomas Harding Schneiderlin Mellis Mills Lallana Lambert Paterson Maybe a little too adventurous but I believe we need to lay a marker down make teams scared to come and play us because after huddersfield team aren't.

Wes Tender Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Good to see a sense of perspective and rationality! Excuse me that Melis hadn't yet registered on my radar. I trust you will allow me to include him in the category of new signing, but as to where we would play him, I don't know. Only another 6 new signings needed then.
Crowds Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 .....................................Davis Murty..............New signing.............New signing.............Harding New signing............New signing...........New signing...........New signing ................Lambert.................New signing Agreed!!!
Wes Tender Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Agreed!!! I do believe with that team we will walk the league! Providing of course that the new signings were of the quality of the three players that I have named.
Doctoroncall Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Yes, the team needs 4-5 additions, to make it compete at the top of this league, we not there yet and we'll have to wait and see if we get those players in this month. Fortunately Swindon are down bottom end of the table with us and can be beat.

Fortunately Swindon are down bottom end of the table with us and can be beat. They can be beaten, but given that I watched a stronger Saints team alot last year and this Swindon team a couple of times I tell you now that we will be lucky to draw such is the current standard of Lowe's legacy team.
northam soul Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 That New signing guy is going to be completely knackered playing in all those positions. Lets hope he is fitter than the rest.
The Fat Controller Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 lee holmes to surely play left midfield if fit?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Funny how a dose of reality seems to have sunk in now it's been shown how much work has to be done to repair the squad. Now just a week after being happy clappy, we're starting to see some discontent - but will ML's cheque book be coming out to sort it all out? I wonder if all those that were saying good riddance to Surman now realise what a miss he is now in midfield. In terms of the team picked, I think the worst thing AP can do right now is swap the team around and play the lads out of position. If Melis was brought in for a reason, then play him and bed the lad into the side. Take Wotton out now - he is a spoiler, but he is spoiling our whole effort more than the oppositions by not playing decent football. Replace him with Schneiderlin or Gillet perhaps. At least one experienced and decent CB is required urgently as a permanent fixture in the squad. Anyway, onto the OP - we're still quite some way from being able to confidently beat ANY team in this league IMO. As someone rightly said in another thread, this squad has yet to find its level which is possibly L2. Major surgery before tomorrow will not happen, so I am thinking 1-1 or possibly 2-1 to Swindon.
Rogerfryisalegend Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 That New signing guy is going to be completely knackered playing in all those positions. Lets hope he is fitter than the rest.I hope New Signing turns out to be a better player than Mystery Trialist.

Let's see what AP can do, he's had a difficult ask having missed out on valuable prepaation time already but at the moment I'm not too concerned, however, come the end of the month if there are no additions or only squad type players added, my worry beads will be out. I would be interested as to the impact the loss of Cox has made to Swindon, considering they have limited striker options.

I would be interested as to the impact the loss of Cox has made to Swindon, considering they have limited striker options. They have 2 strikers and a severe lack of attacking options. When they sold Cox they bought a load of defenders in! I saw them in pre season against Plymouth at the County Ground and they were terrible, we need to be turning them over really.

I just have the evidence of my own eyes to gauge the chances for tomorrow, and unless AP gives the current team of Lowe legacy's a kick up the jacksy I think we'll be lucky with a draw.
LaptopSaint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 --------------------Kelvin Murty---------Thomas--Wotton---------Harding -----------Schneiderlin---James Mellis-----------------------------------Mills ---------------Saganowski ---------------------Lambert Wotton at CB isn't a bad shout - especially for away games. As long as he's told he has to do two things - win headers and when in doubt thump the ball into row Z. Just don't want to see him in midfield. Ever. Again.
SaintRobbie Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton at CB isn't a bad shout - especially for away games. As long as he's told he has to do two things - win headers and when in doubt thump the ball into row Z. Just don't want to see him in midfield. Ever. Again. Wotton has only done one good thing since being at Saints - he told JP, Wotte and Lowe the youth policy was utter rubbish. Apart from that... I am struggling to think of a decent game he's ever had.
SuperMikey Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 lee holmes to surely play left midfield if fit? Agree with that, we need some natural width in the squad to feed Rasiak and Lambert, and we completely lacked that on Saturday. Ideally i'd have Thomson and Holmes on the wings (or a new RM) but that'd mean that some better players than them would miss out on their first XI place. However, you just can't play two players like Rasiak and Lambert up front together and expect them to create their own chances, so i'll go with T and H on the wings. I'd pick: ---------------Davis-------------- Murty---Thomas---Perry---Harding ----------Gillett---Schneiderlin---- Thomson-------------------Holmes --------Lambert---Rasiak--------- Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, Wotton, Lallana, Saganowski, Patterson
Doctoroncall Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Good points, I am not panicking yet either. I was coming from the 'other' side that I knew huddersfield were a good side, have an astute manager who bought well over the summer to compliment the team that ended last season so well. TBH, I was expecting a defeat although by the sounds of it not helped by a **** poor performance.
Saint_clark Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Let's be honest, yes we need to completely overhaul the team but that will not happen this summer, we simply haven't got enough time. By the end of next summer we will have a team that will win the league, simple.

Arizona Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding James Gillett Morgan Fish Lambert Saganowski IMO
eelpie Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 --------------------Kelvin Murty---------Thomas--Wotton---------Harding -----------Schneiderlin---James Mellis-----------------------------------Mills ---------------Saganowski ---------------------Lambert Wotton at the back instead of Perry might be ok in the circumstances. Neither can jump, but Perry gives penalties away for Christmas presents, and surprisingly he is the more knackered of the two. Wotton can tackle and hoof the ball away at least. The trouble is we have a very weak spine and Schneiderlin, like Mellis, is a playmaker (which would be good alongside a tall, tough tackling creative CH which we don't have). I would give Gillett another chance there. We don't have better. Lloyd must be in the squad, so he should be on the right instead of Mellis who is sub for Schneiderlin. Beggers can't be choosers I would love to see Saga do his business, but he hasn't scored for months now and simply doesn't want to get hurt before his transfer. So it has to be Paterson imo. I would be overjoyed if we managed a draw.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I assume we have totally sold out for this one?
SFKA South Woodford Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Let's be honest, yes we need to completely overhaul the team but that will not happen this summer, we simply haven't got enough time. By the end of next summer we will have a team that will win the league, simple. Oh what a trap to fall into! We will not walk this league next season, no matter how much we spend. Our fans need to realise that this league is already pretty strong this season, but next year it will be even harder, as three more championship teams and a big spending Notts County will be in it, as well as those already good sides we are facing this season. Only three sides will be promoted this year, as we know, Millwall, Brentford, Huddersfield, Norwich, Charlton, Colchester, Leeds and Walsall are all good sides. So even with three of them having gone up, we are looking at a league with a further good side added to it next year and the prospect of having to spend a lot more money to get a team good enough to stand above it's competitors. So we either need to get promotion this season, or to have added enough strength and quality to our squad to have been promoted without the hindrance of the minus ten, which will then only need to have a couple of new additions made for a sustained promotion push next season. On the subject of the panic caused by Saturdays defeat, I don't think it's a case of expecting the team to be undefeated, I think it's the complete surrender of a performance, 'Kelvin apart' that's really got people worried. If the same happens tomorrow night, then signings just to toughen up the squad, rather than improving the quality greatly, will need to be made.
Baird of the land Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding Lallana Gillett Sneiderlin Holmes Patterson Lambert I'd like to see holmes give us a left footer at left wing & also give us some real width. Drop wotton & try gillett & sneiderlin together. Patterson back i as i'm not sure what he did wrong in order to be dropped in the first place. I'm hopeful with a couple of changes & a rocket up them the players will turn in a much better performance against swindon & things will look rosier again.

Northam Girls Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I assume we have totally sold out for this one? Last 500 tickets arrived - 250 already pre-ordered so guess we've nearly sold out :-)
sad saints fan Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 what is the latest time today to get a ticket as I wont be back untill later this afternoon
VectisSaint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 They can be beaten, but given that I watched a stronger Saints team alot last year and this Swindon team a couple of times I tell you now that we will be lucky to draw such is the current standard of Lowe's legacy team. Not sure why you think Saints last season were a lot stronger than the current team. We have lost Surman and McG (and Bradley offside Wright Phillips), and McG at least has been replaced by Lambert, we have also brought in Murty and Harding who are better FBs than we had last term. So as far as I can see the only real change for the worse is Drew. we also have Rasiak back. So the team in my opinion is actually stronger in most respects and we are in a lower division. In addition Swindon are certainly impacted by the loss of Cox. I'm confident that we will beat Swindon tomorrow night, at least I bloody hope so, it will not be too pleasant up here if we lose

eelpie Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I see Swindon were founded in 1879, the previous decade to us. They must be one of the earliest clubs. (Oh, and my forecast revised to 1-1)
OfnPanad Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 --------------Davis--------------- ----Murty---Thomas---Harding---- ----------James---Gillet---------- Thomson------Lallana-------Holmes --------Lambert---Patterson------- Too "Keegan"?
stevegrant Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 are there any tickets left...? 250, apparently.
stevegrant Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Davis Murty - Perry - Thomas - Harding Thomson - Mellis - Wotton - Lallana Lambert - Paterson I'd personally have Schneiderlin in for Wotton, but I'm expecting Pardew to go for a bit of experience over technical ability there. He also made reference to having two big strikers leading to us playing too many long balls, so I'd expect him to change that around.
CWD Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 For everyone saying Mills on the left he is still injured according to OS: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/PreviewDetail/0,,10280~1757442,00.html My team would be: ------------Davis--------- Murty-----Thomas-----Perry-----Harding Lallana----Gillet------Spiderman----Holmes ----------Rasiak------Lambert----------- This gives the option of Thomson or Mellis to come on and change things around if needs be on the right
krissyboy31 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 For everyone saying Mills on the left he is still injured according to OS: Didn't he say on his Facebook page that he'd torn his hamstring? That being the case he will be out for several weeks yet.
northam soul Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Didn't he say on his Facebook page that he'd torn his hamstring? That being the case he will be out for several weeks yet. Ah not necessarily, i have an employee who apparrently tore both his hamstrings a week ago. Some achievement to do both at once considering he plays no sport and is 46 yrs old. After one week off work he is now back as if there was never a problem. This guy either has the best doctor in the country in which case i should try and get him to tell his doctor to contact all football clubs to offer his services or as i suspect he is full of ****ing ****.
