hamster Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 Surprised it's not on here already, unlass I am being dense. This is so bad, and although Neil Warnock concedes that it will be seen as 'funny' because it's 'Neil Warnock', imo the powers that be should redress the situation. And to make matters worse, it was a fantastic goal to boot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L97-WnPglbQ Thoughts?
Nexstar Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 TO be fair, from a distance it could easily look as though it did hit the post (i.e form where the fourth official was standing). However, the ref and the linesman should have a braincell between them to realise that the whole palace team are not going to go off celebrating hitting the post. Keith Hackett (chief of referees) has made a public apology to Neil Warnock and suspended the officials pending inquiry.

However Warnock needs to swap up on his history, when interviewed on Sky referring to technology he said " they put a man on the moon 20 years ago... RedAndWhite91 Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 Absolute disgrace, the Bristol players or manager should have done something if they have any idea of 'sportsmanship'... Respect the ref? How can you respect the ref when they make such horrific decisions such as this! Warnock was right when he said that it would not hurt for some matey to be sitting watching the game on a television screen, and if anything like that happened the ref could consult him. It would take 30 seconds and would avoid a complete shambles like what we saw yesterday.

revolution saint Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 It happened to us a while back when Mark Hughes smacked a shot so hard into the net it hit the hoardings behind and flew out. We didn't complain that much at the time. Colin is being a bit disrespectful to Gary Johnson who actually once got his Yeovil side to score an own goal because they'd scored by mistake when they were trying to give the ball back to the opposition. Colin meanwhile moans and groans about everything with no sense of perspective. I once remember an incident where the ref actually changed his mind about a decision during a game (to the correct decision) but to the detriment of Colin's team. Colin then spent the post match interview moaning that though the correct decision in the end was made, the ref should have stuck to his original decision. I can't remember Warnock ever being anything but partisan in support of his team. Gary Johnson on the other hand comes across as a fairly decent bloke. That said it was a goal. There is no more injustice in that goal being disallowed than there is in a goal being chalked off for an incorrect marginal offside decision. Both have exactly the same impact but we wouldn't expect a centre-half to say, "well, actually I did step up a bit late and he wasn't offside, so let's allow them to score a goal to make up for the linesman's mistake". If the latter happened it would be ridiculous, and if the former happened but not the latter that would be inconsistent and arbitrary. When does an official's error become blatant or obvious enough that the beneficiary of the mistake must rectify it? At the end of the day, this seems particularly galling because it's such a bad error, but it's just tough luck. It's also funny because it's Neil Warnock who tends to produce bullying, thugish, cheating teams full of ****s.
Crab Lungs Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 Against Leeds, 0-0 at the time and went on to lose 3-0. God, I remember at the time thinking "seriously... am I the only person who thought that was a goal?" the complete lack of protest at the time completely bewildered me...
