LOL@allyoulotthinkingyouknowaboutfootball.

There is a reason pardew hasn't picked him and it's for the reason's i've said.

Everyone has an opinion bud, and the trick is being able to see both sides of an arguement and put reason behind your claims.

So what makes you the be all and end all ???

'I have played, at the highest level'

Well done billy big sh*t, so whats your point ??? And exactly what level did you play at then ??

I think bizzle feels he is right as SG has not really featured under pardew really so far...

I can see that point, AP obviously see's something many of us do not, SG is not technically the greatest but he is like a little terrier, breaking up play. Wotton is just not mobile enough AND he is terrible on the ball.

Like i said in a previous thread, either pick SG or replace him. Wotton is just not good enough

a few times...did not think he was that great...even though we were beyond shyte too...

Lallana is another one I dont think is right for our team at this time

I saw him alot and thought Saints played much better when he was in the team.

Lallana is our most talented player.

He's exactly like Wotton I agree, except that Gillett can pass, tackle and run... well.

Hmmm, to be fair though ladysaint is right. Gillett was one of the only highlights from a terrible season last year and without him we look spineless and lacking in ideas. He's our best midfielder by quite a long way, and he's sat on the bench. You can understand why fans are baffled.

Agree - baffling!

You have obviously not played football at a high level then. What I am saying is 100% correct. He is so easy to play against it's unbelievable. He makes too many mistakes, poor touch and poor passing contribute to that. It wouldn't suprise me if his pass completion rate was around 50%. Gillet is not young anymore. He should be nearing his best as he should really be about 2-3 years away from getting close to his best. He is no where neat good enough.

The bit highlighted; you're talking about Wotton here, right?

I see that you didn't answer the questioner who wished to know at what level you played.

I'm not the be all and end all. IMO I was a very average footballer, we played saints pre season and he was shocking then and still is now.

I played conference football before breaking my back. Now i'm just playing for my uni.

Nobody in there right mind who has watched the team last season would say that Wotton is a better bet than Gillett. Wotton is way past his best and so one dimensional, where as Gillett is still learning but offers much more to the team over all. Of more concern I think is the love in a lot of saints fan have with Lallana , For my money he is totally overated and not worth even a place on the bench. He did very little last season and from what I have seen & read this season he is doing even less. IMHO 90% of our problems at the moment stem from a weak midfield , No creative playmaker , No pace , No Width , No defensive cover , Sorting out the midfield has to be the priority.

Lallana is a creative playmaker but it's very difficult for him to be that on the left wing when he has been told to stay wide. Lambert is a big strong boy and is also quite skillful so I think we should give a 4-4-1-1 a go with Lambert up front alone and Lallana playing just behind him.

Gillett was one of our best players last season and has shown that he is a good partner for Schneiderlin. As far as I am concerned people saying he is lightweight is ********, he may be small but he makes up for it with his determination and often beats players in the air who are several inches taller than him. He does lose the ball a lot but wins it a lot as well and makes so many interceptions.

Wotton may be mentally tough and brave but he is never in the right place to make the tackles and is so often really quite anonymous. When you do notice him its normally because he has tripped someone up from behind. His first touch is poor and he is slow to move the ball, almost always ending up passing it backwards because he takes so long that he gets closed down. When he does hit it forward it is nearly always a complete punt to no-one because he hasn't even looked to see if anyone is there.

While I like Gillett and we could do with him in the midfield (certainly over Wotton) the problem that we have for me is that the players don't have the right attributes. Finding the real gems that can help make a good team is very difficult but we have defenders with good positional sense who can't head, defenders who can head but have poor positional sense, midfielders who can tackle but not pass, midfielders who can pass but not tackle, wingers who are fast but can't cross etc. Basically we need some new players and we can't be sentimental.

Are you still talking Wotton here?

Gillett is not the answer imo. He is very lively but offers nothing. He is neither a playmaker or a ball winner.

The best holding midfielder at the club is James. He can tackle and pass and is a lot bigger and stronger than Gillett. I would play him in the middle alongside MS until we get a new man in.
