John B Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 Why don't we just buy his contract back and get shot. would be a lot safer imo. Surely it would be better to find a replacement for him first
SFC Forever Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 We'll all sing if wotton doesn't play wotton doesn't play, wotton doesn't play we'll all cheer when wotton doesn't play wotton's gone away, wotton's left hoorah! We need a song short and sweet for the world to know how we feel about him. Gillett is not necessarily the answer but he is a bit quicker. He would also need help to battle for the right for us to play.
kpturner Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 Looks like we have our scapegoat for the season. Personally I hate it when any player gets singled out for abuse from sections of the crowd. He is getting picked and doing his best for the team so give him a break. If he is not up to it then he will get dropped. Who was captain yesterday btw?

Ps. I think that Jermaine was streets ahead of Wotton !

Thedelldays Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 already 2 games in and it is all wottons fault.. not that Lallana can hold a position to save his life, or James is pretty useless so far, or that we dont play actual wide players, or that perry is about 40.. it is all wottons fault that we have lost a game
saint_stevo Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 not blaming him for any losses at any point, but he can't even pass, and is like bambi on ice when get gets possesion
Thedelldays Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 not blaming him for any losses at any point, but he can't even pass, and is like bambi on ice when get gets possesion seems a tad odd. he captained plymouth to win league 2 and league 1 within 3 years... used to be lethal a set plays too.....odd
saint_stevo Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 seems a tad odd. he captained plymouth to win league 2 and league 1 within 3 years... used to be lethal a set plays too.....odd Do you dis-agree then? Or do you think it is odd at how far he has digressed? Cos he is awful
Thedelldays Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 Do you dis-agree then? Or do you think it is odd at how far he has digressed? Cos he is awful He was a great player for plymouth only a few years back..I know he had a year out with a bad injury but I would like to give it a few more weeks before I write him off jasime wright style...mainly because I have seem him at this level and he WAS very good in a team that won this league...and is very experienced at this level
saint_stevo Posted 16 August, 2009 Posted 16 August, 2009 He was a great player for plymouth only a few years back..I know he had a year out with a bad injury but I would like to give it a few more weeks before I write him off jasime wright style...mainly because I have seem him at this level and he WAS very good in a team that won this league...and is very experienced at this level You seen him this season? Hopefully he will find some from then, and probably confidence is also a factor as he seems to sh!t himself when he gets the ball, then passes it backwards to the full back or randomly hoofs it no-where
Junior Mullet Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Is this the same Gillett who did not play well against Millwall Yes and the same one who played so well for us for the majority of last season. Unlike Wotton he is energetic, seeks possession of the football, can pass and retain possession in tight spots and generally pleases the crowd. I accept he runs out of steam after 70 minutes and for that reason we do need to be looking at a better long term CM player, as my previous post suggests. I don't know how anyone can say he's not better than Wotton simply based on Millwall game!!! IMO Wotton is only in the team because of his height. But what use is that when he gives the ball away every bloody time he gets it.
Chez Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I can't fault Wotton's desire and effort, but that is just not enough. A central midfielder should be the best player on the park. Great first touch, excellent passing ability, combined with an engine and enough pace to keep his oppossing CM honest.
Torres Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Great first touch Check. excellent passing ability Check an engine Check enough pace to keep his oppossing CM honest. Check. Yep, the list of attributes he doesn't have is complete.
sidthesquid Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 No I include Powell. He wasn't that bad he was just injured. Permanently! Mr Fiftypence-Piece-Head. Shockingly bad player
krissyboy31 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Mr Fiftypence-Piece-Head. Shockingly bad player Yes I agree with that. The context of my 'not that bad' statement was in comparison to Wotton.
sidthesquid Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 There are 3 players that need immediate replacement - Wotton, Perry & Thomas. Not only are they not up to what is required in this league, they are neber likely to be
krissyboy31 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I think Perry CDAJFU sweeping behind a younger more mobile, tall, fit, athletic CB because of his ability to read the game. Unforetunately we've got Thomas and Lancashire.
southamptonfc Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I think Wotton is useless but he gives 100% week in, week out. Shame on people who boo him.
West End Saint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton is honest and hardworking he hasnt got the talent for centre mid but no-one should boo him or get on his case he isnt under performing he just isnt good enough for that position he should be a squad player that can come in when injuries or suspensions dictate and give 100 % but we need to find a replacement for him Perry is in the same category he gives his all but is to small and to old but a decent squad player who can do a job. Priorties must be Centre back X 2 JPS & Jaidai would be good Centre Midfield Matt Holland/Oakley type player pacey left mid fielder pacey striker let Raza & saga go
sidthesquid Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I think Wotton is useless but he gives 100% week in, week out. Shame on people who boo him. Nobody - espeecially me - is going to boo him, but that doesn't stop him being cr*p
once_bitterne Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Delap, then Wright and now Wotton. We love a whipping boy....
Charlie Wayman Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton got very badly injured in the final game against Burnley last season and my guess is he is now chicken-sh*t scared to get stuck in again. So time to go and do some gardening in the West Country
kpturner Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton got very badly injured in the final game against Burnley last season and my guess is he is now chicken-sh*t scared to get stuck in again. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I think Wotton is useless but he gives 100% week in, week out. Shame on people who boo him. Does anybody boo him ? - can't say I've heard any of that myself .
captainchris Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 To have given him a 3 year contract was a terrible decision - 12 months and would probably have been released at the end of last season. God who was responsible for the idiotic decision to buy this guy - get him free and give him a contract whatever for three blinkin years. Agree with previous threader he certainly one of the very worst to ever wear a Saints shirt. He truely would not get in the Roll Call pub team.............. Gillett is a better player but could not play worse even on a bad day anyway so why has he been ostracized - it doesn't make any sense.....
captainchris Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 You seen him this season? Hopefully he will find some from then, and probably confidence is also a factor as he seems to sh!t himself when he gets the ball, then passes it backwards to the full back or randomly hoofs it no-where So we pick a player purely on his past record now do we!
SFC Forever Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton last season did something I haven't seen from a Saints player all my life. We were attacking watford and th ball was lumped forward and over him. He just stood watching the ball as the watford wingback ran 30/40 yards passing him and collecting the ball. He only had about 5 yards to go and at worst he could have tackled the player. From that day I have watched as he shouts and waves his arms but does very little constructive. If you rate him KP you watch a different game to the rest of us. You and others say he gives his all in every game. All I can say to that, 'Is that his all aint good enough'.
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 It's not his fault he's not very good. It's not a criticism, rather an observation. I would direct any questions to the one who selects him. I'd like to think that there are valid reasons.
captainchris Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Surely it would be better to find a replacement for him first Dave Parker is my suggestion. Aggresive skillful player, can pick a pass, tackle and is now very fit. Currently playing for the Roll Call but would be interested for the right money! The fee would be modest (very) and wages would be less than 1k a week! He's the right age, mature, and a great motivator. Dave can also wave his arms in the air with great aplom. Just a thought!
Crowds Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I really want to like him but he keeps leting the game pass him by.... he give 100% although he disappoints me will never Boo him!
Rasiak-9- Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Delap, then Wright and now Wotton. We always seem to sign old, slow, useless central-midfielders who are completely inadequete and who the fans inevitably and justifiably dislike God i know
eurosaint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton does not need to be made a scapegoat, he does not need to be booed but he does need to be DROPPED ! We are still a poor team and he is the weakest link (IMHO). Gillett has to be a better bet at least until we get someone else, either that, we switch around the formation a bit but TBH at the moment I find him a bit of an embarrassment !
SFC Forever Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I have never heard Wotton booed but that doesn't mean he should play. If he is the best option available we need at least three midfielder as well as the 2 CB's
saintsforlife7 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I've seen the first three competitive games of this season and he has to be one of the poorest players we have, he gives 100% and will always do that, but in terms of ability he is severely lacking. He has no pace to chase back, evident in his cynical trip on Saturday that earnt him a yellow card, he looks scared when he gets the ball and doesn't know what to do with it, which has happened in all three games now, and he can't pass, he just either hoofs the ball forward into an empty gap or gets it stolen off him! I'm not saying he's useless because I think his talking to the team from the centre of the park is important and he helps get the players going, but if this could be done by somebody with any sort of talent he would look like Steven Gerrard in comparison with Wotton at the moment!
Pilchards Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Looks like we have our scapegoat for the season. Personally I hate it when any player gets singled out for abuse from sections of the crowd. He is getting picked and doing his best for the team so give him a break. If he is not up to it then he will get dropped. Who was captain yesterday btw? Well said and very true! I remember those that used to rip into Matt Oakley and how he never offered us anything. It's amazing how we miss a decent passing midfielder since he left. I let the manager judge how a player is, If the team are crap then the buck stops with him.
Chez Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Delap, then Wright and now Wotton. We love a whipping boy.... I thought Wright did a decent job. I can't say that about Wotton.
Alain Perrin Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Well said and very true! I remember those that used to rip into Matt Oakley and how he never offered us anything. It's amazing how we miss a decent passing midfielder since he left. I let the manager judge how a player is, If the team are crap then the buck stops with him. Agreed. Too often there are a bunch of muppets on here with opinions that are based more on a player's haircut or tatts than on reality. Does Wotton pick himself? No. AP picks him to do a job (leader, muscle, height - who cares). If Wotton fails to do his job, do you think AP is better placed to judge than you (from behind your keyboard, listening to second hand opinions on Solent?) Wotton wasn't the reason we lost on Saturday, by the sounds of it, there were 10 others. Trust in Alan, or, if you can't do that, at least give him until January.
Chez Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Wotton got very badly injured in the final game against Burnley last season and my guess is he is now chicken-sh*t scared to get stuck in again. So time to go and do some gardening in the West Country what a load of cack. No one is going to tell me he lacks bottle. I've never seen a man as comitted as Wotton. He was like a man posessed at Ashton Gate last season.

Thankfully we are discussing football and footballers at last after all the nonsense of recent years ! It might be Wotton today and someone else next week, that's how it is on websites like this, so no point in taking part and then complaining that it happens !!
SFC Forever Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I agree. We are all supporters of a dysfunctional team that has shown glimpses of improvement. We still have a heck of a way to go and it may take a while but I believe we will reach heaven in a few years. However we will not make it with a team like ours is right now and we all know it needs changing. The beauty of the game is that there is more than one way to do this. that is why we have so many different views. Until I am proved wrong I would not allow players like Wotton anywhere near the first team unless he was the only player available.
saint_stevo Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 To clarify, whether it is wrong people boo him or not, he is absolute rubbish
Hemel Saint Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 We'll all sing if wotton doesn't play wotton doesn't play, wotton doesn't play we'll all cheer when wotton doesn't play wotton's gone away, wotton's left hoorah! We need a song short and sweet for the world to know how we feel about him. Oh please don't encourage people to start openly slagging Saints players wearing the Red n White stripes. We get our club back from the jaws of extinction, and already we have fans looking for scapegoats. Oakley had it, Paul Telfer, Delap, Jemaine Wright... we always seem to latch onto one player, and the message board momentum takes over, and they quickly become the Devil Child. Your post may have been tongue-in-cheek, but unfortunately there are two many people on here, who will transfer this onto the terraces on a Saturday. As we have seen too many times in the past. It really shows the worst in Saints fans, when a player is quite audibly slagged-off by the fans! Please leave the booing and the anti-player chants at home!
RonManager Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Agreed, if there's one thing the players need above anything else at this moment, it is encouragement.

samoakley Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 You wait wotton will score a few goals and win us a game soon.
S-Clarke Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 You wait wotton will score a few goals and win us a game soon. He'd only end up getting a nose bleed. There's more chance of him actually completing a pass than scoring a goal for us.
Ian the Red Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 (edited) The problem with Wotton is he cannot pass, cannot tackle and cannot shot.......... so the question uis why is he in the team? Gillet is a much better option Edited 18 August, 2009 by Ian the Red
