StuRomseySaint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders.
Amesbury Saint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. I hope so
Deanovski Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 lol 2 wingers 2 C's and 1 midfielder and 2 strikers if rasiak and saga leave
benjii Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 With our current crop of central midfielders and centre backs, staying up would be an achievement on a -10 start.
bug187 Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 I'm sure more players will be brought in now. Im still confident we will stay up
Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. Sorry no. We need a playmaker CM to get service to our strikers (who we have enough of. Agree we need to sort out both CB positions & right wing probably needs to be better.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 5 minutes stoppage time! when will the agony end!
S-Clarke Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Sorry no. We need a playmaker CM to get service to our strikers (who we have enough of. Agree we need to sort out both CB positions & right wing probably needs to be better. You've summed it up for me....exactly what we need. Pref. the players will have some pace too...
Saint Without a Halo Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 3 good chances to Huddersfield even in stoppage time!
Bairdylegend Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 My best mate is a Terriers fan and he said we were battered....he would though. Said our midfield kept giving the ball away, and we looked shakey at the back all game. THis is nothing new, we have needed a decent pair of centre backs for the last 2 years, wotton is very poor, and Lambert needs a partner or two. Thwe fact is we are simply not strong enough yet, and its all very well Mr Cortese telling us about this magical sporting director, he should be concentrating on buying some players to win games. I hope im wrong, but i can see this going very wrong very quickly unless we sign 4 or 5 players to strengthen what is essential a squad bereft of a central defence and midfield. GET ON IT!
SaintRobbie Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 I agree. Marcus has to act fast to support AP. But, none of this should be a surprise. Until we get rid of the team that Lowe built we will not succeed. At least Lambert scored.
Langleysaint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. Totally agree ,hopefully will be a wake call and we will see players come in.
Tractor_Saint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 We didn't win. They are a top class side in the division and tipped for the top. We were away from home. Clue folks, we're not going to win every game and sometimes we'll lose. I'd rather lose to a team like Huddersfield at the start of the season than some tin pot club towards the end of it. Chin up - Pompey lost
saints-cris Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 We're gunna be okay at home.. but we're always bullied away. We need some grit. Defender please.
brightspark Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 2 centrebacks 1 defensive midfielder 1 general midfielder 1 striker 1 creative winger
Amesbury Saint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. . no point having a billionaire owner if he is going to run it like a business !!!!!!!!! (I know I am over reacting)
Paul Chuckle Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 when will any of our managers realise that Lancashire is clearly is not good enough!
S-Clarke Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 when will any of our managers realise that Lancashire is clearly is not good enough! not sure you can blame todays result on him...
niceandfriendly Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 2 centrebacks 1 defensive midfielder 1 general midfielder 1 striker 1 creative winger Yep absolutely agree with that. Our current team is nowhere near good enough and today has been a massive wake up call. We didn't even threaten Huddersfield today, we made it very easy for them by the sounds of things. The worrying thing is we will definately not sign 6 players, but that's at least what we need. Not good.
Nexstar Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. This.
eelpie Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. There was nothing good in losing. He knew that already.
kpturner Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. There is absolutely nothing good about losing today.
StuRomseySaint Posted 15 August, 2009 Author Posted 15 August, 2009 (edited) Sorry no. We need a playmaker CM to get service to our strikers (who we have enough of. Agree we need to sort out both CB positions & right wing probably needs to be better. Schniederlin is probably the best playmaker we could hope for in this league. IMO what we need is a holding midfielder who will allow him more space. Lallana is completely over-rated IMO We also miss a pacy striker. In the same mould as Theo ( ableit not as good! ) Edited 15 August, 2009 by StuRomseySaint
kpturner Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 when will any of our managers realise that Lancashire is clearly is not good enough! not sure you can blame todays result on him... You can't blame him for the result, but that doesn't change the fact that he is not up to it. Got skinned twice to leave a 1 on 1 which (luckily) were both missed.
kpturner Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 By the end of the Brentford game we will have a much clearer idea of how this team is likely to fair in this league (and we may even have a couple more signings by then). If we are not on at least -5 by then .....gulp!
Bailey Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 We need the following: - A hard tackling central-midfielder - Sam Sodje - Zak Whitbread - Simeon Jackson If we can get the above players in, we'd have a competitive team for this divsion.
AlfredKo Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Jaidi Saejs Sodje Matt Holland Yorke Then we should be fine.
hackedoff Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 when will any of our managers realise that Lancashire is clearly is not good enough! When will they realise that half the team are not good enough !
S-Clarke Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Jaidi Saejs Sodje Matt Holland Yorke Then we should be fine. Not for me. There's no pace there - and that's what we're crying out for. Not sure what Yorke would offer us tbh? I'd take Holland though.
NI76 Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 2 centrebacks 1 defensive midfielder 1 general midfielder 1 striker 1 creative winger Totally agree and if both Rasiak and Saganowski leave then we'd need 2 strikers instead of 1.
Thedelldays Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Totally agree and if both Rasiak and Saganowski leave then we'd need 2 strikers instead of 1. lol do you not think we will get 11 more points than the likes of exeter this season..?
AlfredKo Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Not for me. There's no pace there - and that's what we're crying out for. Not sure what Yorke would offer us tbh? I'd take Holland though. Yorke should provide us the killer pass that we need if we aren't creating anything at all today.
John B Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 When will they realise that half the team are not good enough ! Which half the new half from last season Murty Harding Thomas Rasiak Lambert or James Davis Perry Lallana Wotton Schenderlin However I would have thought that team should be able to hold its own in League 1
AlfredKo Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Which half the new half from last season Murty Harding Thomas Rasiak Lambert or James Davis Perry Lallana Wotton Schenderlin However I would have thought that team should be able to hold its own in League 1 The obvious not good enough ones are Wotton, Lancashire, Thompson, Gobern. The first two should not even be on the bench. The last two should be loaned to some league 2 side immediately.
John B Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 The obvious not good enough ones are Wotton, Lancashire, Thompson, Gobern. The first two should not even be on the bench. The last two should be loaned to some league 2 side immediately. But only Wotton was playing at the start and was not taken off so AP thinks he is OK
Daren W Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. Spot on... And Lambert scoring again is a definite plus....
John B Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 .... is that it might persuade Mr Liebherr to dig a little bit deeper into his pockets. IMO we are a winger, striker, holding midfielder and CB short of being promotion contenders. That could probably be said about all the teams in the Division -
aintforever Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 I would get a whole new centre midfield, I don't rate Wotton, Schneiderlin or Gillett.
StuRomseySaint Posted 15 August, 2009 Author Posted 15 August, 2009 That could probably be said about all the teams in the Division - It probably could, difference is we have the money to make it happen.
John B Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 It probably could, difference is we have the money to make it happen. No we dont but Markhus may
Thedelldays Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 No we dont but Markhus may do you not think so.....we have no stadium debt heavily reduced wage bill..no debts what so ever and bigger gates.. do you think we have more money available than what we have spent so far..? I do
Red And White Barmy Army Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 why do people keep saying we need a new DM. AP needs to bring the best out of Schneiderlan and he will be one of the best DMs in this league and Wotton is back-up. Simples. Gillett is the box-to-box midfielder to support him and Lloyd is his back-up. Right winger, striker or two and 2 CBs required now.
John B Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 do you not think so.....we have no stadium debt heavily reduced wage bill..no debts what so ever and bigger gates.. do you think we have more money available than what we have spent so far..? I do Yes I agree SFC have some money but Markus has more and I dont know what he wants to do with it Not sure what the figures for income against expenditure is and what happened to the money from Surman and McGoldrick
Pilchards Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 The problem we have is attracting championship players, With the start we've had the task has got so much harder.
krissyboy31 Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Pardew out! Lol. At least wait until Souness is brought in as Sporting Director!!
redsaints106 Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 I think many of you are getting carried away, sure we were well beaten but not too long ago we faced the prospect of not having a club! Then we have AP who has been here less than a month, really what do you expect! We were a shambles last season and it is going to take time, anyone who expected instant success is naive at best!
