Are you sure that's not last season's prediction reprinted??

There is every chance of this being the case, although the article does seem to linger on the 'uncertainty surrounding the club since the takeover', which basically translates to me as "your guess is as good as ours'.

 Key in the fact that the more we leave him out, the better our league position will be.

I always buy the season preview 442, it's normally fairly good although I hardly ever agree with their predictions about Saints. This one is particularly bad but that's mainly due to the fact it was written just after the takeover had occured and Wotte had been sacked. Pardew hadn't been appointed and obviously we hadn't signed anyone although we had sold a fair number. I guess at around that time things didn't look quite so good as they do now.

Surely this must have been written before the takeover.

Even so, they got the key player way off. Davies and/or Lambert now!

And why should 442 be so wrong, we have obtained 1 point from 2 games ie 23 for the season and have a 10 point deficit) Right here right now we should be on -4 points,we're on -9 actually, we won't get better without realistic signings,so why should 18th be so ludicrous?

Charlton are joint top; there's a way of doing it in this League, unfortunately we haven't done it-yet.Leicester showed the way, why can't our gazillionaire owner just follow the path of an oick like Mandaric?

As was quoted earlier the 4-4-2 piece was written before the takeover and pre Pardew, Harding, Murty and Lambert were signed. Pardew stated 2 weeks ago that the season had come 3 weeks to early. Pretty much every other club are more prepared than us. We should be grateful that we have a club and no debt.

Theres a way of doing it in this league - yes, called stability & having a pre-season!!

Not why you think 'we should be on -4 points' - because we're an ex-prem club perhaps? We are the team we are right now not what we were 6 years ago, we've had 4-5 years of total mis-management of the club at all levels, it will take more than 4-5 weeks to repair it. And if you think that just throwing money at it is the answer then it is one solution - but I would much prefer that Liebherr & Cortese build a solid club that can support itself if & when Liebherr walks away (unless you think Pompey fans are enjoying themselves at the moment)

We did have a pre-season and were Rubbish so it is not surprising we are still rubbish

19th position would be about right IMO, judging by the performance I witnessed yesterday.

Obviously AP will turn things around, but right here, right now...... yeah.... 19th if we're lucky.

I posted this about a fortnight ago (on the Jason Euell thread, as there's also an article by him in there), and even then the season predictions were clearly at least a month out of date, they probably wrote all that in April.

If AP does not sort out the midfield and CB positions quite quickly IMO there is a real chance that Lambert will go 'off the boil' as he will sink to the level of the team supplying him. In fact, there are a number of decent players over the last few years that have seen their performances go dramatically downhill because they have been mixed in with a mis-managed squad of utter poop - (e.g. Lallana). This is not about winning this league and a rapid rise to the Prem - this is about really sorting out the squad so it can SURVIVE this season, play some decent football and then fight its way upwards. At this rate though, we will be lucky to survive L1 such is the state of this demoralised team.
