Lets B Avenue Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 (edited) Bryan Gunn sacked 6 days after the opening game. At least Sturrock lasted into the 2nd week. Edited 14 August, 2009 by Lets B Avenue Wrong Brian.
The Godfather Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Brian Gunn sacked 6 days after the opening game. At least Sturrock lasted into the 2nd week. Remember Sturrock had the end of the previous season aswell and got the push after we'd beaten Blackburn.
Thedelldays Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 they said that the opening game was a record home defeat was utterly unacceptable
70's Mike Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 One home defeat , Rupert let JP lose how many last season?
The Godfather Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 they said that the opening game was a record home defeat was utterly unacceptable Strange its taken the day before the next league game to sack him though.
Lets B Avenue Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Posted 14 August, 2009 Remember Sturrock had the end of the previous season aswell and got the push after we'd beaten Blackburn. And so did Gunn, who had been in charge since January, whether he was called Caretaker or not.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Strange sacking him the day before a game.
beatlesaint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 they said that the opening game was a record home defeat was utterly unacceptable Why didnt they sack him last Saturday night, Sunday or Monday ? He goes to Yeovil on Tuesday and they win 4-0.....so he then gets sacked !!!! Incredible.....what was the old saying - "you are only as good as your last result" !!!
Lets B Avenue Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Posted 14 August, 2009 Strange its taken the day before the next league game to sack him though. Especially after a 4-0 win at Yeovil on Tuesday. If that had been a league game would he have got the boot?

Lets B Avenue Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Posted 14 August, 2009 Can't find any info on this anywhere on the interweb..... SkySports News. Read out by Ian Payne and on the Breaking news ticker. Ian Butterworth in temporary charge.
Arizona Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 So... Gunn's been fired?!?! Did it really take 11 minutes for someone to post that. I wonder how this will recoil on Norwich's promotion push.
SamKimish Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 So... Gunn's been fired?!?! Get your coat ...
suspect everyone Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Did it really take 11 minutes for someone to post that. I wonder how this will recoil on Norwich's promotion push. It's quite a "revolving" door they've got going on at Norwich. I always knew Gunn would eventually bite the "bullet". I guess all those goals that Colchester "rifled" in last week led to Gunn's downfall. Gunn must be so depressed, I hope he doesn't "shoot" himself. You have to admit, Gunn's Norwich really were "pistol-whipped" last weekend by Colchester. I'm sure sacking Gunn was an "uzi" decision for the Norwich board I doubt bringing in another new manager will "gunpowder" over the cracks within the club. I think I'm losing my mind.
stevegrant Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I wonder how many managers have been sacked after a 4-0 away win against a team above them in the league table...

TBone-Tone Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I wonder how many managers have been sacked after a 4-0 away win against a team above them in the league table... Utter madness! Give the job to the bloke who threw he season ticket at Gunn on Saturday.
stthrobber Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I wonder how many managers have been sacked after a 4-0 away win against a team above them in the league table... Pretty rough on Gunn to be honest, they certainly rallied a bit when he took over, despite the fact they still went down. He put some fight into them. The fact that he got the boot this early on suggests there's more to the matter than meets the eye. Still just for once, it's not us that has to worry, Pards said Saints was the only job he'd drop down a division or 2 for, so he won't be a target for Norwich
Thedelldays Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Utter madness! Give the job to the bloke who threw he season ticket at Gunn on Saturday. to be fair...they got relegated didnt they..he had plenty of time to save them last season..the timing is odd but im guessing some of the board were sceptical about him and getting a record home defeat was enough and a bit of lobbying has been going on in the last week or so...
Winchester Red Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Strange thing to do after allowing him to sign 12 players on permanent contracts over the summer
Granadino Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Strange thing to do after allowing him to sign 12 players on permanent contracts over the summer  This. Can't say I'll miss his face on the TV though. Always has me reaching for the contrast button!
chocco boxo Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Delia has had more managers than she has cooked decent hot dinners! Graham Taylor is my bet.
Professor Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Bryan Gunn sacked 6 days after the opening game. At least Sturrock lasted into the 2nd week. Sturrock was not sacked. Don't lets go back to the old habits of changing the facts in order to make a post.
Trader Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Sturrock was not sacked. Don't lets go back to the old habits of changing the facts in order to make a post. Yeah - right
Katalinic Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Sturrock was not sacked. Don't lets go back to the old habits of changing the facts in order to make a post. If you really think he wasn't sacked then you are very naive I am afraid.
Dicko Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 This. Can't say I'll miss his face on the TV though. Always has me reaching for the contrast button! That's so harsh, but very funny First LOL of the day
the saint in winchester Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Sturrock was not sacked. Don't lets go back to the old habits of changing the facts in order to make a post. So what euphemism do you favour then, Professor? "Let go"? "Released"? "Parting of the waves"? "By mutual agreement"? Come on, he was sacked. Whatever euphemism you prefer for, his contract was terminated, with or without his consent.
Micky Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 So what euphemism do you favour then, Professor? "Let go"? "Released"? "Parting of the waves"? "By mutual agreement"? Come on, he was sacked. Whatever euphemism you prefer for, his contract was terminated, with or without his consent. As we are talking euphemisms, "Parting of the waves" tends to suggest a god like figure who can walk on water, hardly likely to have been sacked methinks..! Obviously "Parting of the ways" would suggest something completly different though...!

Micky Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Bryan Gunn sacked 6 days after the opening game. At least Sturrock lasted into the 2nd week. I notice you were quick to report this story, and also notice your username - you're not the one and only Delia Smith - are you...??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_8JLkwzpd0 I rest my case, M'lud...!!
Nutwood2 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Very , very sad. I know there's no room for sentiment in football and all that jazz, but, given what's hapened to him previously, I feel for the bloke big time!

I know there's no room for sentiment in football and all that jazz, but, given what's hapened to him previously, I feel for the bloke big time! Agreed - he served them very well over the years, just a shame that they turned to him as it was all going pear shaped. Would have been very difficult for him to turn them down - and now it's all gone 'pete tong' he leaves a club he served with distinction, for many many years, under a cloud. Very, very sad really.
VectisSaint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Sturrock was not sacked. Don't lets go back to the old habits of changing the facts in order to make a post. Sure, he was relieved of his duties, amounts to the same thing he was sacked. However, Gunn was not sacked by Delia, but by McNally the Chief Exec.
SaintRobbie Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Delia was probably stewing on the idea all week. Cooking up the idea for sometime methinks.
Block 5 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I'm hoping that Norwich get a new manager in soon. Perhaps a Dutch manager with experience of English football?
PaulSaint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Most clubs get a one off, bad spanking once a season, maybe Norwich's just happened to be the first game ? Harsh sacking IMHO.
Thedelldays Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Most clubs get a one off, bad spanking once a season, maybe Norwich's just happened to be the first game ? Harsh sacking IMHO. would you have been happy to keep a manager around who had half a season to save you..?
Iowsaintsfan Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Cooking up the idea for sometime methinks. only Thyme will tell :smt047
Cabrone Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 From a NCFC perspective its a poor poor decision. Really, if NCFC want to see what a managerial merry go round does to a club then they need to look no further than L**e and his **** poor record here. It's guaranteed failure! Also why did they let him rebuild the team then sack him almost instantly? Shades of the Sturrock debacle...... If I was a NCFC fan I'd be pretty upset about it, especially as the guy was a bit of a Canary legend but as a SFC fan I'm quite happy. If one of our rivals wants to shoot itself in the foot then that's fine by me!
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I wonder how many managers have been sacked after a 4-0 away win against a team above them in the league table... Good question - didn't Dave Jones get sacked after a win?

None of the ****** spouted at the time was correct, just an unfortunate collection of small incidents that steam rollered out of control. Luggy is free to comment on this one when he wishes, but I really doubt we will hear anything because that is the type of person he is!
bpsaint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Good question - didn't Dave Jones get sacked after a win? He was put on 'compassionate leave' after a 2-0 win over Everton yes,but was close to getting the sack anyway as results were suffering.
Legod Third Coming Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Why didnt they sack him last Saturday night, Sunday or Monday ? A reminder to anyone who suggested that MLT should have been our new manager that it wouldn't have worked
