eelpie Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 (edited) Who he? (Wikipedia has never heard of him ffs.) he looks promising here. How tall is he, btw? Edited 14 August, 2009 by eelpie
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Player profile here: http://www.chelseafc.com/page/TheReservesProfiles/0,,10268~900399,00.html
SaintDonkey Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 he is primarily an attacking midfielder but previously filled in at full-back and centre-back Competition for Thomson or Lancashire
Jamie The Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Just watched some clips on you tube & he looks good.
IamLeGod Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Hopefully he's got a bit of pace, if we are going to go for a Lambert/Rasiak pairing up top we will be desperately short of pace upfront!
Seany S Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Hopkins has delivered a glove slap across Tac Tics face with his ITK goodness.
Pancake Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Who he? (Wikipedia has never heard of him ffs.) Chelsea reserve player they signed from Sheff Utd in 07. Central Mid and CB
Tractor_Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Interesting - could this be the new CB signing? http://www.chelseafc.com/page/TheReservesProfiles/0,,10268~900399,00.html "A regular member of the England U19 squad.... Now in his third year, he is primarily an attacking midfielder but previously filled in at full-back and centre-back during 21+6 youth games in his first campaign" Otherwise (might be a stupid question) who's he been bought in to replace?
Saint Mikey Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Unless he's a right-winger, I find this strange. His profile lists him as an AM, surely Lallana is best placed for this position? Anyway, not grumbling about another addition, cos we need the numbers and I doubt we are paying anything for this kid. Just think there could be other areas we need to strengthen.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Next to the clip this is written: This season has seen Jacob Mellis improve so much that he has made it to the first team bench, this video will show why.
Doctoroncall Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Looks like a utility player to cover/put on subs bench for the first teamers.
S-Clarke Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Unless he's a right-winger, I find this strange. His profile lists him as an AM, surely Lallana is best placed for this position? Anyway, not grumbling about another addition, cos we need the numbers and I doubt we are paying anything for this kid. Just think there could be other areas we need to strengthen. He's a right winger, used to play as an attacking right sided full back. So a good signing in a position we're short in. Well done Wilkins on this one...
SaintDonkey Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Next to the clip this is written: This season has seen Jacob Mellis improve so much that he has made it to the first team bench, this video will show why. Watching that it looks like he plays mostly in a central attacking midfield position. We've not really had anyone in the role in the two games to date with Schneiderlin being more of a playmaker and Wotton being the bruiser. I think it's a role that Lallana should be playing but his versatility seems him stuck out on the wings.
qwertySFC Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Signed on loan until January 2010 , deal completed
stevegrant Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Well done Wilkins on this one... Yeah, that could prove to be a useful link. Now, about that Jack Cork fella...
krissyboy31 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Signed on loan until January 2010 , deal completed Quick editing there! I thought for a minute it was a backdated loan.
surrey1saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 He seems to know where the goal is.Looks like a good signing COYR!
qwertySFC Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 http://www.chelseafc.com/news/saints-switch-for-jacob-20090814_2243335_1754347 On Chelski web site
qwertySFC Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Quick editing there! I thought for a minute it was a backdated loan. All the excitment got to me
fisho Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Hopefully this is the start of a nice Chelski link via the brother Wilkins!
qwertySFC Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Could be a real decent loan signing , looks very quick on the wing and seems to know where the goals is ....Would he be available for Saturday ?
The Saturday Boy Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 The side lacks any real pace at the moment, so this looks a sensible signing.
thorpie the sinner Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 So is young Jacob the signing we were talking about before Huddersfield or might there be another pleasant surprise today?
pimpin4rizeal Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 to be honest he looks amazing very quick agile and fast thinking
SaintDonkey Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 So what position does he play CM CB or RW Watching the videos he mostly plays attacking central midefield for Chelsea reserves with the odd cameo appearence on the right wing. I reckon he'll be central midfield for us.
amsterdam Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Looks like a utility player to cover/put on subs bench for the first teamers. I've just gone through a couple of Chelsea web-sites and Melis was apparently "on the fringes" of the first team - think he'll be more than cover for us, if that's the case?
qwertySFC Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 With Pardew wanting other teams to fear us , mabe Jacob will be the real pace for Rickie ... looking more like AP & DW getting things in place for service for Rickie to be a goal machine for us. Looking at the potential of Jacob , seems a bit more of an inspiring loan deal that was put together last year
saint_boysie Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 im not ITK at all, but i think we will still sign a CB today, we will see, COYR
scott_saints Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Looking at the potential of Jacob , seems a bit more of an inspiring loan deal that was put together last year What you on about? Robertson and Pekhart were simply world class for us last season.
madsent Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Signing him on loan until January 2nd, from sky sports news. Poor guy has only just joined and people are already spelling his name incorrectly. Welcome to Southampton
Saint J 77 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I always find it difficult to be too pleased with loan singings. Is there any real chance he will stick around beyond January?
saint_bert Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 My uncles Chelsea mad. He said he will do a gjfu.
saintjay77 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I've just gone through a couple of Chelsea web-sites and Melis was apparently "on the fringes" of the first team - think he'll be more than cover for us, if that's the case? On the fringes of the 1st team that is competing for Champions League, Prem and all cup competitions you would have thought a loan spell to the CCC would have done him more good. Why Chelsea are prepared to let him get knocked about in League 1 confuses me if he is that close to Prem football. Could just be that they hope he will turn out to be a 1st teamer for them but has allot to learn or they are dressing him up so they can ask for more money if we try and buy him in Jan. Not saying its not a good move for us but think some of the wording is more window dressing than anything else. We relied on a few loans last season, some worked and some didnt. Hopefully with the new owners we have a bit more room to filter out the chaff and just get the quality help we need. Looking better each week though so hopefully we will have a competitive team in time to push for playoffs.
lee_saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Sent a few texts off to the Chelsea boys, they say he's an alright player.......said he'd be very good in League One.
John B Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Watching the videos he mostly plays attacking central midefield for Chelsea reserves with the odd cameo appearence on the right wing. I reckon he'll be central midfield for us. Thanks
kpturner Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 (edited) Just watched some clips on you tube & he looks good.LOL - if it is the same set of clips that were posted above then I couldn't see anything that suggested that (although I hope he is). Bloody crap video though (this one that is ). Edited 14 August, 2009 by kpturner
cjay7 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I really hope the OS's slow reaction to this means that they are waiting to announce JM + 1 other signing ...lets hope
