lordswoodsaints Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 In the last couple of weeks (probably more out of frustration than anything else) about the lack of activity in the transfer Market and the need for urgency.I did also criticise lallana on Saturday, although I felt it justified......but I have to hold my hands up and give praise where it is due,the 3 signings by pardew (murty,Harding and lambert) have really impressed and I feel a lot more confident about the season than I did before Saturday. Lallana was a lot lot better last night and showed exactly what he is capable of,my only gripe about him last night was that on a couple of occasions he gave up on balls that he probably could have got to but that is just a fitness thing I suspect. Well done pardew, well done the lads, come on you saints.

Dan Johnson Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 on a couple of occasions he gave up on balls that he probably could have got to but that is just a fitness thing I suspect. . Felt this was the case on saturday as well, choose to bang his hands against the ground in frustration rather than get up and track back, for a player playing in midfield its not good enough really. All the same, I rate Lallana and I as you am pretty sure its a fitness thing because he looked like the most unfit player on the pitch Saturday
SaintBobby Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 Here here. Why, oh why, oh why...do so many people on this forum say "here here"??? It's "hear hear" FFS..

Well done pardew, well done the lads, come on you saints. Well, you were too quick off the mark getting all nervous before the campaign had even started. As many said, would it be preferred that we rushed in and bought several players in haste, or should we be more patient and deliberate in getting exactly the right ones? Don't forget also that Pardew didn't have his backroom staff in place then and had to concentrate on looking at players simultaneuosly with coaching the team. But as you say, it seems that Pardew has done an excellent job so far in those players we have brought in and additionally he is getting more out of the existing team than the double Dutch did last season too. We also now have proof positive that ML is prepared to open his cheque book to buy the very best players if it is thought they are necessary to the team.

lordswoodsaints Posted 12 August, 2009 Author Posted 12 August, 2009 Pardew must be so happy, the great lordswoodsaints has approved. His job is done............. No need for the 'great' just sir lordswoodsaints of lower chilworth will be sufficient.
Frank's cousin Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 It was easy to criticise the youngsters such as Lallana especially last season as as they faded very early on in teh season - succombing to the preasure - and mainly becasue it was easy to forget they were actually still only kids in a mans environment - Lallana included. BUt as we have seen with Schneiderlin and a few of the others - despite a dissapointing first season, that experience will be invaluable. Lallana has a lot of talent and as he becomes more experienced and is alos to some extent protected by mgreter experience on the pitch I have no doubt he will realise his full potential and quickly. We should not forget that he was under tremendous pressure, not least because of his talent last season and to expect a youngster to cope with that and everything else that was going on at the club was too much really. He's a down to earth lad, who I have no doubt will shine this year - him and Schneiderlin will become the mid field generals - the tricky thing wil probably be keeping hold of them when bigger boys come sniffing around... something we have been used to even in the prem, but perhaps more of an issue in L1 when it becomes more difficult to replace such talent even if teh money is there.

Professor Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 It was always a bit unfair to criticise the young players who came in last season when they were there out of necessity. Although the plan to use them didn't work and so the strategy can be criticised, the team is now benefiting from those players being a year older and with CCC experience. Lallana, Mills, James, White, etc., would all be less than the players they are now if they hadn't been in the first team last year. "Out of adversity comes opportunity" (Ben Franklin 1706 - 1790).
saintds Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 the 3 signings by pardew (murty,Harding and lambert) have really impressed Murty was here before AP TBF, he just hadn't signed a contract. Still a great signing though and he has been very good in the 1st 2 games.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 Some people on here don't hear too well.

Lallana, Mills, James, White, etc., would all be less than the players they are now if they hadn't been in the first team last year. "Out of adversity comes opportunity" (Ben Franklin 1706 - 1790). The plan was doomed to failure from the instant that it was put into operation. The reasons why that was obvious are as follows:- 1) There were too many youngsters thrown into the deep end together too quickly. 2) The double Dutch were too inexperienced in that division and in this country. 3) The formation played did not suit them. 4) The manager who possibly stood a better chance of operating under those circumstances was dismissed. What is relevant is the effects that this has had on those youngsters who remain. The biggest, is probably the knock that their confidence received. Hopefully, Pardew is addressing that by playing a balanced team with some experienced older heads alongside them and we will start to win matches in the lower division, thus boosting their morale and confidence. Yes, they gained valuable experience as a result of last year, but that experience should have been gained gradually by their introduction into the team in stages, playing alongside seasoned pros, as they are now. The improvement in some of these players is noticeable probably as a result of advice and instruction coming from the likes of Wotton, Murty and Thomas. Last season, more of the youngsters would have benefitted by being farmed out to other teams and learning their trade that way instead of being thrown in at the deep end. Last season was really a concise example of how not to do it and the resultant relegation and administration was the result. Thank God that we will probably never have to endure that bumbling amateurism again. We are now going about our business in a totally professional manner and even in this short space of time, there is evidence of some positive results.
Fan The Flames Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 Why, oh why, oh why...do so many people on this forum say "here here"??? It's "hear hear" FFS.. Because they want people to pass the ball to them, fact.
St Marco Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 Because they want people to pass the ball to them, fact. Or it is what Millwall fans say when they have found some kid hiding in a bush
Carlos Fandango Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 I don't think Saints fans should get too downhearted if they don't hear any rumours about new signings, the new regime seem to get on with business and announce it when it's finalised. It's a refreshingly professional way to go about things.
chocco boxo Posted 12 August, 2009 Posted 12 August, 2009 To be fair to Pardew surely we must reserve judgement on his signings until at least February? Hopefully none will receive any injuries and we can then judge his signings? Too many people are too quick to pass judgement either way. It took Kelvin some time to show us his worth. Anyway I still reckon a fiver each on Lambert to score 1st and last goal for the next 40 odd games will return a profit if he stays fit.

Well done pardew, well done the lads, come on you saints. I'm sure that lots of us agree with your sentiments Lordswood, and YES it does get frustrating while you wait for "something " to happen. Your posts , which are many, are generally a bit more restrained than many others on here who have shorter tempers....... but nevertheless, I'd still prefer to wait and have AP get it right than panic buy " someone " just to fill a spot. We still have until 31st to sign players, and probably even longer to get someone on loan.. Like you, I am very impressed with his signings so far (even though there has been little to see).. but somehow I'm a little more concerned about who might leave..( Saga, Rasiak, Lallana; Schneiderlin,) than I am about who is the next that AP will surprise us with next week. Transfers, as we know, tend to be more complicated than just agreeing fees, and then signing on the dotted line. Suddenly we have a brand new club, and a brand new team (well almost) and it's pretty exciting so far. All we need now is a home fixture V. Pompey in the next round of the League Cup ...and see if we can regain title as best on the south coast.
