Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Strange how we all see this game so differently- I thought Thomas and Harding were really good last night and that James' crossing was poor except for the goal- I counted about 4 times when he had 2 strikers to put his cross in to and dropped it in between them each time to a Northampton player! I am a bit concerned that Lambert might not make Saturday- he knew straight away he needed to come off and was stretching his hamstring. Calm down, it was cramp. SaintRobbie Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 I thought ... too many kids to win, possibly a draw... but I suppose when you add a decent manager to the Saints equation you can get results! Well done the lads!
View From The Top Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Ha. He is a poor manager and will yet again have Plymouth near the bottom of the table I remember you gobbing off last season about how PAFC would finish below SFC with Sturrock in charge. Proved right there weren't you, just like with Wotte! Muppet.

John Boy Saint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Poopey at home would be awsome : ) I would say not, despite their troubles they are 2 leagues ahead of us and as AP has said we are still deficient in some areas, so why give p*********h the possibility of a lift and us a possible disapointment when we need winning momentum.............................. Now round 3 of the FA Cup would be a different matter.

saints_is_the_south Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Another lower or same division team at home please. This way we can hopefully wrack up a win to get us to get us into a winning momentum, plus in the 3rd round we have the chance of drawing one of the big boys away. converted_saint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Agree with most of that, although I would move Harding into V.Good, had an excellent game I thought. James was also my MOM. having seen the game tonight I really hope that Pardew persuades Rasiak to stay. With him, Paterson and Lambert sharing the strikers roles we could see plenty of goals. Wooton doesn't cut it for me, decent journeyman midfielder with a strong engine but a little short on pace and def. short on imagination. I'd prefer to see Gillet there, but I presume this is the gap that Pardew is going to fill next. Still work in progress but there is a steel to the team that was sadly lacking last season, I would prefer to see us playing from the back more though, we used the kick from Kelvin too often IMO. Agree with that. It was the same in the Millwall game, we lumped it long too often. Thomas's headers just went straight back to the opposition. Maybe my knowledge of lower-league football is too poor to accept that long, high balls are of any use. I still think the best football is played on the deck, in whatever division. stevegrant Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 The seedings for the draw have already been pre-determined because of the league positions of the teams a) already through, and b) playing tonight. Clearly we're in the "unseeded" pot, so we're going to have a tough draw whoever we play. Seeded Teams Birmingham Blackburn Bolton Burnley Hull Man City Portsmouth Stoke Sunderland Tottenham West Ham Wigan Wolves Newcastle Middlesbrough West Brom Reading Preston Cardiff Swansea Ipswich Bristol City QPR Sheff Weds Watford Unseeded Teams Doncaster Crystal Palace Blackpool Coventry/Hartlepool Forest/Bradford Barnsley Norwich Saints Macclesfield/Leicester Peterborough Leeds Millwall S****horpe Tranmere Southend Huddersfield Bristol Rovers Leyton Orient Swindon Carlisle Hereford Gillingham Rotherham Accrington Port Vale Who do you fancy from that then... stevegrant Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Well we would certainly be massive underdogs but we'd give them a run for their (not much) money with the current disarray they're in. I'd rather avoid them though.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 It twiggged on me last night that the draw for the first round was seeded geographically north/south. 25 teams have been seeded for the next round which means that they can't face each other, and they are basically the Premiership without the European contenders and the top of the Championship. That means that we have a good chance of meeting one of these: http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/News/CarlingCupNews/0,,10794~1751903,00.html Games will be played in 2 weeks time, week commencing August 24th. the saint in winchester Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Sounds like the second half of the millwall game to me. Theres no point playing lallana on the left when holmes is on the bench and needs match fitness. That's been on my mind as well, Le G. If Holmes is fit enough to adorn the bench, surely he's fit enough to play? Does The Special One really think Lallana on the left is better than Holmes? I'm confused. Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 I thought that Olly was getting a bit 'sucked under the ball' last night. He would go for a header and then find that he'd misjudged it and it was skimming off the top of his head. (and for all those with smutty comments, go and wash your mind out with soap and water)
Granadino Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 One observation from last night, anyone else notice that when defending corners we had all 11 men back in the box with no outlet left upfield. Surely Lallana, for example, given his height, or someone else could have stayed up the pitch for a break, especially against fairly poor opposition? I dont think that AP would have had the chance to watch Holmes in a proper competitive game.I also was hoping he'd get a runout and looked keen.Rasiak actually running was a revelation, he sprinted at 1 time
Tractor_Saint Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Although I think we had a good game the g/f did remind me of a comment I'd made after the match which I think is relevant... If Northampton had had a decent attack then there were at least four good chances that should have been put away but they sky'd / put wide. But then I spose everyone is saying our defence is poor but I'd have expected with Harding and Murty it wouldn't have been *that* bad but we really did give Northampton way too many chances to score. But perhaps it's just me being grumpy cos I've been called out tonight....
