Thedelldays Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 got it with my new laptop.. when I try to install it it gets to a certain point and says it detects and older version (which my be already on my new laptop) and it says it removes it...to continue the install I have to restart the laptop.. when I do, it just says it detects and older version of Norton and goes round again... does this no matter how many times I restart when trying to install anyone had this before..? saint_stevo Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Norton is nasty. Hogs CPU and makes me feel a bit sick. Remove- http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 And install Avira
warsash saint Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Agreed with others - steer clear of Norton. I had AVG but had issues around auto updating so am now using Avast...a great little app & would deffo recommend.
Benj540 Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Could always use COMODO aswell, free and works well, but avoid Norton.
Pancake Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Maybe someone would like to answer TDD question? have you tried uninstalling the previous version of Norton first? Have a look under "Add/Remove programs" and see what is there.
Marsdinho Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Uninstall Norton (using add / remove programs) whilst in "Safe Mode" To get your PC to start in safemode.... Go to START / RUN - Type "msconfig" and hit enter. - Click on the "BOOT.INI" tab - Tick box next to "/SAFEBOOT" Remember to untick this as your PC will always boot in safe mode until unticked. Minty Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Maybe someone would like to answer TDD question? Call yourself a mod? You should be upholding forum etiquette, and that means ignoring any original points or questions and taking the thread off on a complete tangent, ideally insulting the OP (and anyone else you don't like) in the process?! You c*ck. I didn't join SaintsWeb for polite on-topic conversation and helpfulness!

RonManager Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 I have had Norton since 2005 and have never suffered any successful attack on my computer, and it has never been a pain in running anything or slowing down my computer's speed. However, I continually hear bad things said about it, as on here. Out of interest, just what sort of problems have people had with it?

Redbul Posted 26 August, 2009 Share Posted 26 August, 2009 Agreed with others - steer clear of Norton. I had AVG but had issues around auto updating so am now using Avast...a great little app & would deffo recommend. +1 The only annoying thing about it is the whiny American voice telling you that your Avast Antivirus database has been updated. Got shot of Norton 'cos it Hogs CPU.
