chrisobee Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 (edited) Oh we are playing today, thanks Bungle : -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- bungle Registered User Seeing as no-one has bothered to start a thread about the Hants v Yorks game (and I can't), I'd like to point out that Lumb and Tremlett are back (no Crawley or Tomlinson), and we were put into bat and now 84-1, with Carberry out. Bit slow, but seeing as we were put in I imagine there is something in the pitch. I am going to the game tomorrow, hurrah! BTW I wish I had not started this thread now, thanks a lot Bungle !! chrisobee Posted 11 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Yes, it's in Basingstoke. More chance of a positive result I would imagine since the Rose Bowl is clearly much more batsman friendly these days.

manji Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 273-7. Good fightback by Hampshire.Need quick wickets in the morning. Going tomorrow. It will be my first visit to Mays Bounty since the mid-80's.
Leicestersaint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 The players just don't seem quite good enough in the CC. We really need to get a few wins under our belt.
Weston Saint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Hard work for the spectators in a slow grind by both sides but it looks to be nicely set up for the third day. Just to clear up team selection. Cork attended a family funeral yesterday so was not considered. Choice was between Tomlinson & Tremlett to take the final bowling place and it went to Tremlett. Lets B Avenue Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 One of the most tedious days Ihave ever witnessed. Could have done with a few beers, but had to drive. The trees looked nice.
bungle Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 I quite enjoyed my day out, first time at May's Bounty as well. Thought Griffith's bowled excellently, and was really the only Hants bowler that looked dangerous all day. Dimi kept things tight without you really thinking he'd get a wicket, and Tremlett did have his moments and beat the bat a few times. Would like to go back today, but will have to stick with refreshing the BBC website!
chrisobee Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2009 I noticed it was slow going for both teams, under 3 an over. Need to get them out for around 300 I'd say and then bat decently and get at least 250 ahead. Weather permitting there is going to be a result by the looks of it and we really cannot afford to lose. No disrespect to Burrows who is a decent keeper when I've seen him but we really miss Pothas in the mid/lower order.

I go on to Cricinfo, tends to refresh itself and as long as I keep the page open can keep tabs on the score along the bottom of the screen, 15 minutes play and 5 runs for no wicket. Really thrilling stuff!
Lets B Avenue Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Lunch 398-7. Good Grief!! Second day running we haven't taken a wicket in the 1st session and once again a nipper at no.9 has got a career best. This time its Shahzad 62 no. Previously it was Woakes of Warwicks and before that Fletcher, Notts. Rollup, roll up! Free runs for sale!
Berkshire Saint Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Went to the first two days and it was fairly slow going from both batting sides, some decent bowling though. Looks like we've lost this game now. Can only see us beating Worcester from our remaining games as we just can't bowl sides out this season! chrisobee Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Well if Yorks can put on well over a 100 for their 8th wicket we should be able to make a decent score IF the batsman apply themselves but it's been clear all season we are lacking a cutting edge in our bowling and only if Tahir finds plenty of spin are we likely to win. If we can stay in League 1 of the CC that is something we urgently need to address as Tremlett just doesn't seem ever to be fit enough to have any real impact, Dimi is more of a containing bowler generally ( obviously ideal for one day games) and the rest like Ervine and Griffiths are very in and out. Oh and Corky will struggle in 4 day games now I feel.

chrisobee Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2009 One thing I have noticed is that we lost our 5th wicket at 203, Yorks at 204 so we really must be the worst team in the country for bowling at the lower order.
chrisobee Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2009 It's getting really silly now, 453-7. 185 added for the 8th wicket.

chrisobee Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Finally all out for 524 though even the 10th wicket managed 36! 3 wickets for Tahir and Griffiths, 2 for Tremlett ( eventually) and one for Dimi. Surely though if our batsman apply themselves we could still get a draw..... or wishful thinking !?

SO5 4BW Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Just back from Basingstoke - absolute gutless display by Hampshire. We made their lower order look like world beaters. Very quiet in the field - no way should Dimi be captain of anything. God how we miss Pothas, who is the difference between our form up to and including Lords, and in the last few weeks. Tremlett needs to leave as he's going nowhere at the moment and doesn't seem that bothered about it. Sussex won today so if we lose (very likely) we'll be in the bottom two. Three of our remaining five games are Durham/Notts/Somerset, so we'll do well to stay up here - what a let down. Second whinge - the atmosphere at the ground. Now I'm all for applauding opponents -centuries, particularly good strokes or catches etc. But every Yorkshire boundary (and there were a few) was clapped a bit too enthusiastically. Now I know there were some Yorks fans in the crowd but the bulk were presumably Hants fans. No way would you get that sort of non-partisanship at a northern out-ground in a relegation scrap. It seemed that all the good citizens of Basingstoke wanted was a jolly good game in the sunshine

We were lethargic today.Loads of dropped catches and no talking amongst the players at all. If only Corky was a few years younger and could be our Captain. I think the highlight of the day was Tim Tremlett coming out and deputising as an umpire......
Weston Saint Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Another hard day at the office for Hants. Spoke to Angus Frazer who was there looking at a couple of players in his capacity as Middlesex coach. One was a Hampshire bowler but no name. Also heard that Sussex were interested in Chris Tremlett.

John B Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 What is the matter with our batting, bowling, fielding and general approach to matches?? To be competive in four day cricket you need a decent bowling attack. As I suggested at the beginning of the season we dont and that puts extra pressure on the batting and fielding
keithd Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 4 down, going to be a struggle to save this one. Ervine's hit a 6, he's never going to be one to die wondering is he!! Can he combine aggression with sensible batting tho....

chrisobee Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2009 With a bit of luck we might manage a draw. Not likely, another collapse. Now 239/7 after losing our 5th wicket ( Ervine) at 230. Still 35 behind when a draw DID look more than possible. Just Burrows and Tremlett who are in and Tahir and Griffiths to come. Tremlett can bat and he and Burrows are our only slim chance I suggest. Oh just noticed Ervine was run out !

Lets B Avenue Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 All out 253. Yorkshire's 1st Championship win for 20 games. Pitiful indeed! Whilst the collapse was on, I was down St Mary's putting in a letter of complaint about them putting the Brum cup game on to clash with the Floodlit game at the Rose Bowl. Wish I hadn't bothered now. bungle Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 All over. It was a game at Basingstoke last year that set us on our late charge at the title. Is it a game at Basingstoke this year which sets us up for relegation?
chrisobee Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2009 What a shambles, 252 all out after being on 230 when Ervine was 5th out. Almost a carbon copy of the 1st innings. The players really need to look hard at themselves, I suspect many are still resting on their laurels after the FP win. Very few players that came out of the game with much credit it has to be said. Top score was Carberry (70) and even Tahir was expensive when bowling. However, the player who really annoys me is Tremlett, he was a better player 8-10 years ago than he is now. Used to score some useful runs but managed to last 4 balls for his 2 ducks and 2-106( both lower order batsman) suggests he is either out of form completely, has no confidence, is still not fully fit or probably a combination of all 3. Shame is I've always liked him as a person and a player but really that's just not good enough though as I said all round very dismal. CC2 looms I fear, on this form it is almost a dead cert. chrisobee Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2009 (edited) Well I think Worcs looked doomed so it might be fortunate we have still to play them. Could well be between us and Yorks to join them so the result could hardly have been worse. Not sure of the exact points but Yorks must be a few ahead after today but we play them in the final game ! Still at least there are still 5 more games and a bit of decent weather would not go amiss to maybe help Tahir as last season. I reckon he could be the key player though it would be very useful if Pothas can play again before the end of the season. Any news anyone, trying to find out anywhere outside of Hants is nigh on impossible! Final fixtures: Hants 19-22 Aug Notts away 27-30 Somerset home 9-12 Sep Worcs away 15-18 Sep Durham home 23-26 Sep Yorks away !! keithd Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 pathetic! when we won the C&G in 2005 it was near the end of the season, and we didnt win anything after that but thankfully it didnt matter. so we win the FP and the same thing going to happen? looks like it so far. get a grip, and quick
chrisobee Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2009 As I said we really need Pothas ( and Cork) back. I'd rather rest Corky for the one day games if it means he plays in the 4 day games.
