Neil Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 Can't do too much fitness work this week or next with the midweek games, but would be great to get a win tomorrow to boost the confidence. I wouldn't change the team much for tomorrow, barring Perry if he's too old to play twice a week! Take Lambert off early if need be (assuming he starts), to make sure he's fresh as a daisy for Huddersfield.
Minsk Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Saga missing tonight (due to being away with Poland) but Rasiak may be back. Mills also may be back. No other new injuries. Source: OS Personally I would start with Lambert and Paterson and bring Rasiak on for the last 30 mins or so.
SaintDonkey Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Two of the back 5 are new and another didn't play at all last season, so i think they need match practise to gel into a unit (even though I also hope we sign a new CB before midday Friday). Also, Lambert needs to strike up an understanding with his first choice partner. I would also like to see if Gillett and Spiderman can get their CM partnership clicking again (again, even though I also would like to see another CM come in this week). Other than that, I agree with Thomson and Holmes at RM and LM. Yeah I was wondering whetehr it would be better to try and get a gelling team or to rest players. I think we have to rest Thomas - he's fragile and unless we sign a.n. other centre back before Saturday I can't see the point in risking him in the cup. Maybe a good point to give the rest of the back five another game together though. I'm not sure about up front - I'd say that Lambert and Paterson should be our first choice partnership but with Pato going off with fatigue on Saturday I'd like to gradually ramp up his fitness before asking him to play twice in 4 days. Saga's on international duty and Rasiak seems to be off so White is the only one left. Central midfield I agree that a Morgan Gillett partnership might be the best long term solution (although I do like the look of Gobern). So my revised line up: Davis Murty Perry Lancashire Harding Thomson Gillett Schneiderlin Holmes White Lambert
ohwhenthesaints Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Pardew stated on SSN today that he would put out his strongest team. Seems fair enough, everybody loves a good cup run.
KMondo Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Davis Murty Perry Lancashire Harding Thomson Gillett Schneiderlin Holmes White Lambert Looks good. Would be nice to find a place for Lallana though, perhaps in place of White or Spiderman.
Arizona Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 IMO: Davis Murty Lancashire Perry Harding James Gillett Morgan Holmes Paterson Lambert
saints_is_the_south Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Lancashire should be no where near the team regardless of the opposition IMO. We need the new back 4 to get used to eachother & gel so they need to be playing as many games together as possible be it in the league, carling cup or JPT. Starting line up should be this imo: --------------------Davis---------------------- Murty------Thomas--------Perry---------Harding Thomson----Gillett------Schneiderlin------Holmes -------------Paterson----Lambert-------------- Subs (5 or 7 in the CCC?): Bialkowski, James, Lancashire, Wotton, Lallana, Mills, Rasiak (take away Lancashire & Wotton if its only 5)
Clifford Nelson Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 I would love to see Gillett instead of Wotton. He is the natural long-term replacement alongside a creative midfielder. For the latter we've only got Morgan. AP must play Lallana until he knows how to get the best out of him. Pato to start with Lambert up front, although not easy with two target men together. Rasiak to get a cameo in case nobody wants him and he'll stay with us by default until the end of the season. He could be deadly playing off Lambert. Causer Posted 11 August, 2009 Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Davis James Lancashire Thomas Harding Thomson Gillett Lallana Holmes Saga Lambert Strong team that rests Murty,Perry due to age and Schneiderlin and Patterson who looked fatigued on Saturday It would be interesting to try Lallana in the middle as well.
