Song for Lambert (Proper)

Dare I ask how the song went down tonight? I want to keep hearing it, i really do like what you are trying to achieve. I heard you singing it on the radio tonight. I joined in .

You heard it on the radio? I was in the middle of the stand behind the goal and didn't hear it once. Are you sure it was the Lambert song you heard? Although to be fair I was more often than not screaming at another stray pass so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed it ;)

A man behind me in the queue for the burger van inside the ground had one of NG's print outs and asked me if I knew what the tune was, I happily told him I helped with the words :) We had a bit of a sing-song in the queue, but didn't hear it during the game, probably would have if Lambert had scored, or if the 2 sets of fans in the different stands could keep time with each other!!

You kept that quiet mate.

We had a couple of renditions in the Merlon pub and on the way to the ground. Most that heard it seemed to enjoy! (although I think a few are still struggling with the words) Thought the atmosphere was poor tonight, the open end combined with the dross we served up on the pitch didn't really help

Atmosphere wasn't great no. Didn't help the fact we couldn't keep time with those in the Arkell's stand, and so the songs we did sing sounded out of time and more often that not fizzled out into nothing. Had we banged in a few goals though, would have been a completely different story!

Gave out nearly 400 song sheets last night - lots of people already knew 'oooh is that the Rickie Lambert song?'

We gave quick hum of the tune and most caught on quite quickly. We did get it going in the 1st half in the Arkle stand before they scored but then the atmosphere collapsed.

Only saw 1 discarded copy when we left the stadium so hopefully it will re-appear on Saturday and we can have another go.

Def think it's gonna catch on in big way - just need the man to score a few ;-)

Maybe it's about time we get the club involved with this one?

Heard a couple of people singing it at the back of block 41 yesterday but it never clicked on and our fans only ever seem to sing the same tune as Saganowski but just change his name for Lambert.

It is a good chant but maybe we should change a bit..

He Stands Just Over 6 Foot 3,

Rickie, Rickie,

He'll help us up The Football League

Rickie, Rickie,

He Gets The Ball, He Takes The ****,

He Wears The Shirt Of Matt Le Tiss,

Rickie Lambert, Southampton's Goal Machine

Makes more sense then the "He'll take us to the premier league" bit imo.

The old Ron Davies song fits nicely:-

His name is Ricky Lambert he's the leader of the team

The greatest Centre Forward that the world has ever seen

You always can rely on him to score the vital goal

And as for Scott Dobie you can stick 'im up yer 'ole

La la la la, la la la laa la,

La la la la la la la la la la la la laa

La la la la, la la la laa la,

La la la la la la la la la la la la laa

The Saints

Obviously the Scott Dobie bit is changed according to who we're playing.

I refused to join in with the Saganowski/Lambert chant on saturday.

I even heard some people trying to get the same chant going for Papa Waigo - FFS.

+1

****ed me off tbh too, people were trying to start the proper lambert song...but this just drowned it out. It's boring.

Has to be the one we've all known it to be since Swindon etc, it needs to catch on properly away for the home crowd to start singing it. And with every away game we have it's getting there, Charlton it got going but because everybody didn't know it a different soong started, but we'll get there eventually

Unfortunately I haven't managed to get away this year mate, what's being sung at away games, and to which tune???

Met a few lads in Winchester the other night as we found out they were Saints fans, and we sung some songs on the way to a pub, and they started singing this one. Turns out they stand directly behind us in the Northam and none of us realised. When Lambert stood up to take his first penalty about 10 of us sung this but no-one else did. This was sung at Swindon, Northam Girls even handed out sheets of paper with the words on it. It was sung at Charlton too, in the pub and in the ground.

Heard it being sung on Saturday only to be drowned out by the Saga version.

Credit to some lads in the middle of Block 42 though, were giving it some.

May have been me and the lads in front, Row U and some a few rows back were singing it too.

It's our best song for a long time (all be it copied from Torres) and if everybody can give it a good airing in the next two home games and at Carlisle we could have it going all around the ground in no time!

I sit in the middle of Block 42 (row FF) and with a few lads behind us in GG we got it going but it didn't really catch on at around the time of the first penalty. Could have been us you saw/heard.
