I heard you singing it on the radio tonight. I joined in . You heard it on the radio? I was in the middle of the stand behind the goal and didn't hear it once. Are you sure it was the Lambert song you heard? Although to be fair I was more often than not screaming at another stray pass so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed it
RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 A man behind me in the queue for the burger van inside the ground had one of NG's print outs and asked me if I knew what the tune was, I happily told him I helped with the words We had a bit of a sing-song in the queue, but didn't hear it during the game, probably would have if Lambert had scored, or if the 2 sets of fans in the different stands could keep time with each other!! Loyal Saint Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 We had a couple of renditions in the Merlon pub and on the way to the ground. Most that heard it seemed to enjoy! (although I think a few are still struggling with the words) Thought the atmosphere was poor tonight, the open end combined with the dross we served up on the pitch didn't really help

(although I think a few are still struggling with the words) Thought the atmosphere was poor tonight, the open end combined with the dross we served up on the pitch didn't really help Atmosphere wasn't great no. Didn't help the fact we couldn't keep time with those in the Arkell's stand, and so the songs we did sing sounded out of time and more often that not fizzled out into nothing. Had we banged in a few goals though, would have been a completely different story!
niceandfriendly Posted 19 August, 2009 Share Posted 19 August, 2009 I agree the atmosphere wasn't amazing for 3000 supporters, but when you can see your team is horrendous after 5 minutes it's not surprising we weren't in fine voice throughout. Northam Girls Posted 19 August, 2009 Share Posted 19 August, 2009 Gave out nearly 400 song sheets last night - lots of people already knew 'oooh is that the Rickie Lambert song?' We gave quick hum of the tune and most caught on quite quickly. We did get it going in the 1st half in the Arkle stand before they scored but then the atmosphere collapsed. Only saw 1 discarded copy when we left the stadium so hopefully it will re-appear on Saturday and we can have another go. Def think it's gonna catch on in big way - just need the man to score a few ;-)

Saints foreva Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 Maybe it's about time we get the club involved with this one? Heard a couple of people singing it at the back of block 41 yesterday but it never clicked on and our fans only ever seem to sing the same tune as Saganowski but just change his name for Lambert. It is a good chant but maybe we should change a bit.. He Stands Just Over 6 Foot 3, Rickie, Rickie, He'll help us up The Football League Rickie, Rickie, He Gets The Ball, He Takes The ****, He Wears The Shirt Of Matt Le Tiss, Rickie Lambert, Southampton's Goal Machine Makes more sense then the "He'll take us to the premier league" bit imo. inoffthepost Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 The old Ron Davies song fits nicely:- His name is Ricky Lambert he's the leader of the team The greatest Centre Forward that the world has ever seen You always can rely on him to score the vital goal And as for Scott Dobie you can stick 'im up yer 'ole La la la la, la la la laa la, La la la la la la la la la la la la laa La la la la, la la la laa la, La la la la la la la la la la la la laa The Saints Obviously the Scott Dobie bit is changed according to who we're playing.
