Thedelldays Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Depends on which of us you are talking to ;-) always wanted a chick who went to football..lol
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 There were a bunch of us sang your song it for quite a while after he scored BUT we tried telling the lads to slow it down a bit - people were turning round and listening but couldn't get the words as it was sung too quickly. It sounded brilliant and I'm sure it will catch on - great song R&W :-) Gonna take loads of printed copies of words to Swindon - hope you don't mind. Sounds brill - have to make it catch on :-) Excellent, pleased to hear that it got sung a bit, well happy with that!!! That's a pretty sound idea too, if it will make it catch on then go for it, don't mind at all (You should put 'by RedAndWhite91 and Um Bongo' at the bottom though ). I just got my tickets for Swindon so I will be there singing it proudly tomorrow night... Can't wait Thanks Corrrr I am well excited something I have helped do is going to be sung by Saints fans! :D

I'd certainly appreciate one as I sure as hell won't remember all the words as I'm quite thick. Shame really. What are you going to do give them out on the travel club or something?

Haven't worked that bit out yet lol Will have few hundred more by tomorrow night so any suggestions welcomed (polite ones please ;-)) Won't bother with the grumblies but anyone else is welcome to a copy.

Surely people just signing the song will make it catch on.. I think handing out song sheets is taking it a bit too far.

You could hand them out in the ground, tell people to pass them on perhaps.

I'd like to agree with you but I can't see people picking up the words, especially knowing how fast our fans insist on singing every song. OWTS is almost unrecognisable nowadays because of the speed so a new song with more than 10 words is unlikely to catch on without a little help imo. Sad but true perhaps.
surrey1saint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 I printed out the words....I'd never remember them otherwise!

Griffo darling we're not gonna force them on anyone - if you don't wanna play then that's fine. All I know is if it was me it would take ages to 'catch on' - things are sung so quickly these days. If you had heard those of us that sang at Huddersfield you would know how good it sounded and we're all getting a bit fed up with the same old same old. There were people looking at us with puzzled looks but big grins - they liked it too but couldn't join in. If you feel we're sad then we're sorry we're just trying to embody the new feelings of optimism and this is a little bit we can do ;-) x

La BoIS Saint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Maybe we can have the words on the big screens? With a bouncing ball
krissyboy31 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 With a bouncing ball I think we'd need to re-sign Jhon VRFR for that!

Here they are: He stands just over 6 foot 3, Rickie, Rickie, He’ll take us to the Premier League, Rickie, Rickie, He gets the ball, he takes the ****, He wears the shirt of Matt Le Tiss, Rickie Lambert, Southampton's Goal machine. By Um Bongo and RedAndWhite91 I managed to pick up the words on Saturday without having read the words on here beforehand, and I've been singing it ever since! Love the song and it will sound so good with thousands singing it. Just out of interest, was the second bit predecided or did it just sort of happen at the game? It went like this: 'la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la' All the way through until the end line of 'ricke lambert, he's southampton's goal machine.' It sounded amazing and gradually got a bit faster, then the first verse started again slower.

The 'la la la la la la' bit is done by Liverpool fans when they do their version of this tune for Fernando Torres. Um Bongo suggested it I think... Sounds like it sounds good though, can't wait for tomorrow.

Appy Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Makes a brilliant change from our usual repetitive songs.

RonManager Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Ahem, I think I also need to be credited, for saying that "Rickie, Rickie" was better than "Lambert, Lambert". As a true artist, you should let your art go. The other two will suffer the fate of growing fat on the royalties and live lives of excess and wanton hedonism, dying at a ripe old age in the style of Oliver Reed. You, however, will gain the true, spiritual kudos reserved only for the greatest of artists, and die penniless, drunk, heartbroken and forgotten in a gutter on a cold wet night in Barnsley. In 50 years time the truth will finally out and films and books will be made in your honour, allowing another group of charlatans to grow fat on the etc etc etc....
Griffo Posted 17 August, 2009 Author Posted 17 August, 2009 EDIT: By Um Bongo, RedAndWhite91 and scott_saints And credit to me for starting the Rickie Lambert song ideas thread, and starting this thread with your song too..

dune Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Anything other than that **** poor sea shanty that a few tried to get going up at huddersfield. To this tune: Maybe not strictly a sea shanty, but too naval sounding for my liking.

dune Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Bugg3r off, that's what we're singing. End of. xx No way, it's the sort of Naval sh*te Pompey fans would sing.
scott_saints Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Would "One Rickie Lambert" be better than this then?
Thedelldays Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 No way, it's the sort of Naval sh*te Pompey fans would sing. what should we sing...?
krissyboy31 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 No way, it's the sort of Naval sh*te Pompey fans would sing. How do you get the tune "Animals went in 2 x 2" to be some 'Naval sh*te Pompey fans would sing?' Are you mixing Noah's Ark up with HMS Belfast? FFS!!!
Gigersaint Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Would "One Rickie Lambert" be better than this then? That was pretty awsome, great link. I'd love to hear our support reach that kind of level with that song. Wish I could have finished work early enough to go tomorrow, especially with the support we're taking to Swindon :-(
SamKimish Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Don't ManUre sing a version of the tune for John O'Shea?
niceandfriendly Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Don't ManUre sing a version of the tune for John O'Shea? Yes and it's dreadful, whereas the Torres one sounds great. Silly Mancs.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 EDIT: By Um Bongo, RedAndWhite91 and scott_saints featuring the help of Griffo. End of!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 No way, it's the sort of Naval sh*te Pompey fans would sing. Er, is Southampton not one of the UK's most important commercial docks? And aside from that, what does it really matter anyway. I don't think Pompey fans would be singing about Rickie Lambert either...
squiggly_dan Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 The 'la la la la la la' bit is done by Liverpool fans when they do their version of this tune for Fernando Torres. Um Bongo suggested it I think... Sounds like it sounds good though, can't wait for tomorrow. As the writing credits seem to be nailed down for the first verse, I wondered if I could get in on the action by suggesting the following for the second and subsequent run-throughs: la-la la-la la-la la-la Rickie, Rickie, la-la la-la la-la la-la Rickie, Rickie, He gets the ball he takes the **** He wears the shirt of Matt le Tiss Rickie Lambert, Southampton's Goal Machine Repeat 'till bored! I think the first two lines of the original are the not as good as the rest, and replacing them with the above after the first run through has the added bonus of there being less words to remember! I expect a credit on all songsheets and royalty cheques on the 1st day of each month or you will be hearing from my solicitor.
surrey1saint Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 er, is southampton not one of the uk's most important commercial docks? And aside from that, what does it really matter anyway. I don't think pompey fans would be singing about rickie lambert either... lol
