There were a bunch of us sang your song it for quite a while after he scored BUT we tried telling the lads to slow it down a bit - people were turning round and listening but couldn't get the words as it was sung too quickly.

 

It sounded brilliant and I'm sure it will catch on - great song R&W :-)

 

Gonna take loads of printed copies of words to Swindon - hope you don't mind.

That's a pretty sound idea too, if it will make it catch on then go for it, don't mind at all (You should put 'by RedAndWhite91 and Um Bongo' at the bottom though :p). I just got my tickets for Swindon so I will be there singing it proudly tomorrow night... Can't wait :D Thanks :) Corrrr I am well excited something I have helped do is going to be sung by Saints fans! :D :D

Ooop forgot the 'by' bit (sorry) - printed 200 so far - may try and do some more tomorrow (not sure can manage 3,500 though) and will remember this time ;-)

I actually think that's a pretty good idea. I'd certainly appreciate one as I sure as hell won't remember all the words as I'm quite thick. Shame really.

 

What are you going to do give them out on the travel club or something?

Haven't worked that bit out yet lol

Will have few hundred more by tomorrow night so any suggestions welcomed (polite ones please ;-))

Won't bother with the grumblies but anyone else is welcome to a copy.

Surely people just signing the song will make it catch on.. I think handing out song sheets is taking it a bit too far.

You could hand them out in the ground, tell people to pass them on perhaps.

I'd like to agree with you but I can't see people picking up the words, especially knowing how fast our fans insist on singing every song.

 

OWTS is almost unrecognisable nowadays because of the speed so a new song with more than 10 words is unlikely to catch on without a little help imo. Sad but true perhaps.

Griffo darling we're not gonna force them on anyone - if you don't wanna play then that's fine.

All I know is if it was me it would take ages to 'catch on' - things are sung so quickly these days.

If you had heard those of us that sang at Huddersfield you would know how good it sounded and we're all getting a bit fed up with the same old same old.

There were people looking at us with puzzled looks but big grins - they liked it too but couldn't join in.

If you feel we're sad then we're sorry we're just trying to embody the new feelings of optimism and this is a little bit we can do ;-) x

I managed to pick up the words on Saturday without having read the words on here beforehand, and I've been singing it ever since! Love the song and it will sound so good with thousands singing it.

 

Just out of interest, was the second bit predecided or did it just sort of happen at the game? It went like this:

 

'la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la' All the way through until the end line of 'ricke lambert, he's southampton's goal machine.'

 

It sounded amazing and gradually got a bit faster, then the first verse started again slower.

Er, is Southampton not one of the UK's most important commercial docks? And aside from that, what does it really matter anyway. I don't think Pompey fans would be singing about Rickie Lambert either...

As the writing credits seem to be nailed down for the first verse, I wondered if I could get in on the action by suggesting the following for the second and subsequent run-throughs:

 

la-la la-la la-la la-la Rickie, Rickie,

la-la la-la la-la la-la Rickie, Rickie,

He gets the ball he takes the ****

He wears the shirt of Matt le Tiss

Rickie Lambert, Southampton's Goal Machine

 

Repeat 'till bored!

 

I think the first two lines of the original are the not as good as the rest, and replacing them with the above after the first run through has the added bonus of there being less words to remember!

 

I expect a credit on all songsheets and royalty cheques on the 1st day of each month or you will be hearing from my solicitor. ;)
