Tamesaint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Well we didn't win the first match of the season... but we never do. I have supported Saints since the end of the 60's. In that time I can only remember 3 victories on the first day of the season. We beat Coventry away 1-0 about 10 years ago, we beat West Ham in the late 80's under Nicholl and I think we beat West Brom in the season we went on to win the Cup. Have there been any other opening day victories that I have missed? Does any other club have such an appalling first day record as us??
St.Thomas7 Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Coventry away in the 90's?? I think we won that one...

I think he mentioned it somewhere in his post St Thomas Ostenstad was the scorer on the day.
bigtonesfc Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 I think he mentioned it somewhere in his post St Thomas Ostenstad was the scorer on the day. I believe Norwich maybe worse......this season anyway!
Iowsaintsfan Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 I believe Norwich maybe worse......this season anyway! But they still have more points than us
Kenilworthy Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 1-0 at Nottingham Forest in 83/84 thanks to Danny Wallace
eelpie Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 I believe we have the worst any day record in the country. But times are-a-changing
saint J Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 Heard on sky yesterday that we haven't won a home game on the first day since 1988!
SaintDonkey Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 On the plus side that's two of our bogey games (first match of the season and televised to boot) out of the way in one go and we got a point out of it. It's all uphill from here
eurosaint Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 I blame Alright_Dave for making a 6 hour drive, time for a couple of pints and then straight to the stadium to apply his jinx on the team ! He will be at the Northampton cup game as well so please don't waste your money and bet on us to win !!!! (Despite hundreds of pounds and tens of hours travelling, he has not seen us win for more than 3 years !!). Sad but true!
sidthesquid Posted 9 August, 2009 Posted 9 August, 2009 2 wins in the last 19 opening home games. It's hard to believe there is anyone worse than that out there
