Gorgiesaint Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 With risk of of being shot down horrifically.... I would welcome him back. He's better than Wotton any day To be honest, I would give just about any player who we've had in the last 4-5 years another go under Pardew because each an every one of them would have been mis-managed under Burley, Poortvliet, Wotte or whoever else has been in charge. I bet there are a number of players who we have let go believing them to be complete garbage when what they needed was some proper direction. Right now, if they're good enough for Pardew then that good enough for me!! (except maybe Hamill but he's gone to Barnsley anyway )
thorpie the sinner Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 I really hope we can keep Rasiak, he'll do the business in this league for sure. Hopefully the statement of intent made by the signing of Lambert might pursuade him to stick around. Lambert\Rasiak combo = 50 goals+. As for Saga - although he put some effort in on Sat (with poor service) his departure won't bothered me too much. Raza is desperate to leave I believe!!
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Saw Lambert play when Rovers were beaten at home by Brighton at the end of last season He reminded me a lot of James Beattie in terms of his physical presence .....large, capable of making a nuisance of himself and very good at getting himself in the right place ..unlike Beatts, however, he also looked as if he was interested in making a lot of effort! Great signing I shall sleep more soundly tonight I'm not going to start a debate about this but Beattie got through SHED loads of work when he was here, always defended from the front. Lambert is a quality signing though!

Don't think that combo will work - IMO think Saga work better with Lambo who, lets not kid ourselves, isn't the paciest of the players. Either way, we'll get the best out of Lambert with (i) more width to feed him crosses and (ii) pace to play off his knock-downs and ability to hold the ball up.
pap Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Very pleased with this signing. A great statement of intent. Very interested in who the club will sign next.
converted_saint Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 pfc123 you've gone awfully quiet since your post...have you crawled back into the hole you came from?
whiteleySaint30 Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Check this out. Some cracking goals on there!!!!!
St.Patrik Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 First intervju now up on OS - but still no words from AP ? http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1750044,00.html

converted_saint Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 "As soon as I heard that Southampton had come in for me I was very excited so I made sure that it happened." F**k off Southgate!
thorpie the sinner Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 "As soon as I heard that Southampton had come in for me I was very excited so I made sure that it happened." F**k off Southgate! Did Boro definitely enquire?
S-Clarke Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Did Boro definitely enquire? They were interested, but didn't have the funds unless they sold Alves/Tuncay.
converted_saint Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Did Boro definitely enquire? They were interested, but I think Rovers and Saints have been negotiating since last week or even before that so I don't really think they were in a position to make a firm bid. OS says there was competition for his signature from clubs in CCC so it's a major coup however you look at it!

Tye-Dye Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 The gasheads are gutted at losing him, their chairman has said they could not compete with our wages & the fantastic opportunity for him at this stage of his career. Did the last 5 years happen? we are now one of the big fish in this pond, huge finances, premiership training facility's, premiership stadium, premiership fans! The -9 will be a doddle to erase, then, god help the rest
Thedelldays Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 The gasheads are gutted at losing him, their chairman has said they could not compete with our wages & the fantastic opportunity for him at this stage of his career. Did the last 5 years happen? we are now one of the big fish in this pond, huge finances, premiership training facility's, premiership stadium, premiership fans! The -9 will be a doddle to erase, then, god help the rest we were this when we got relegated to the CCC some chose to believe we are/were just a small provincial club and should adjust our expectations as such.. to be honest, I would expect a club like saints to be going for the leagues best players..
ooarrlatvian Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Watched that clip and noticed that most of his goals he celebrates with his team mates on the half way line, I thought at first that he keeps running there to celebrate, but after studying it properly i noticed that he likes to score them from that distance. haha bring him in as i reckon we might have a space for him. :-) By the way, the goal against Luton Town is ON THE VOLLEY. You can't quite see it from the youtube footage, but he looks like he side-foots it on the drop! One of the best goals I've ever seen and I still have it on DVD. Missing him already. But feeling glad that he's come/gone to Saints as they're my 'other' team.
S-Clarke Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 we were this when we got relegated to the CCC some chose to believe we are/were just a small provincial club and should adjust our expectations as such.. to be honest, I would expect a club like saints to be going for the leagues best players.. I agree...but we didn't grab the opportunity then. Alot of really good players would have jumped at the chance to come here in 2005, but a combination of Harry ''i not really be bothered to be here'' redknapp, and Rupert lowe - we missed our chance.
Colinjb Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 looks good :-) They rushed the move through, yet still had time to faff about with some arty farty photography.
chrisobee Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Yes ! I've not been online since mid day so was hoping to see this signing done and dusted and for once it did not run and run, it's even on the OS so must be true . Clearly very intelligent as well chosing us over Boro ! Oh and given the No 7 shirt as well !
Tye-Dye Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 we were this when we got relegated to the CCC some chose to believe we are/were just a small provincial club and should adjust our expectations as such.. to be honest, I would expect a club like saints to be going for the leagues best players.. Fair point tdd, I felt that way too when we dropped, and posted on here that we were dead certs to get straight back up, horribly proved wrong. We are in a much stronger position now though, we have hit the bottom, been rescued beyond our wildest dreams, and now the others around us will be looking over their collective shoulders worried that we could easily afford their top players & nab them. We will only get better from this position, even though we didn't look too bad on Sat, with some very promising lads stepping up to the plate, 3 more quality signings, better fitness & we are there, playoffs surely?
SaintDonkey Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 probably been posted elsewhere but whilst bored at work found this Q&A on the beeb... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bristol_rovers/8023501.stm Very interesting - particularly this bit "You lost a few pounds in weight during pre-season. How much of a factor do you think that played in you having such a great season? M Collins, England It has played a massive part in my season. I lost a stone by just cutting down on fatty foods. It has helped my mobility and I feel a lot, lot better this season because of my diet. There's also been a lot of work in the gym and I've been looking after myself better." Pretty much explains why last season was so spectacular. We need to make sure he stays away from the pies!

mcjwills Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 ...well let's make sure we keep Murty away from him for now But Murty needs the pies for those weighty cruching tackles required at this level
SaintRichmond Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Raza is desperate to leave I believe!! It will be interesting to see HOW desperate he is to go ......... by how much a Pay Cut he'll take Not many of the other 91 Clubs have been knocking on his door
RonManager Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 probably been posted elsewhere but whilst bored at work found this Q&A on the beeb... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bristol_rovers/8023501.stm Surprised and a little shocked that he hasn't considered the advantages of being able to breathe underwater. We may have made a big mistake here - this is basic football stuff. :smt103
Junction 9 Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 This would appear to be a really good signing. When did this last happen because I really can't remember.
NickG Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 easily their highest paid player in their clubs history - and we more than doubled his wages
SaintSparky Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Cracking signing, exactly the sort of player we need in this division.
insideout Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 easily their highest paid player in their clubs history - and we more than doubled his wages I just saw that, http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/page/LatestNews/0,,10328~1749339,00.html I wounder how much we are paying him? I hope mr Liebherr can afford it! Great signing!

Frank's cousin Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 looks good :-) Feck for a moment there I thought we had signed Chris Martin ;-)
Mr Saints Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Seen a few of his goals on Youtube, he does like a long range volley! 'The League One Le Tissier'
Gravesend Saint Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Check this out. Some cracking goals on there!!!!! Just found that myself. There's some great goals in there that wouldn't be out of place in an MLT showcase. Let's hope he lives up to the Number 7 shirt for us this season.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 A Millwall supporting mate of mine has just told me how jealous he is that we have signed Lambert. This makes me happy.
saint_stevo Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 There's a first... If your pessimistic, you never get let down!
S-Clarke Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Comments (At last) from Pards.... '' Pardew told BBC Radio Solent: "He's someone we tried to get before Saturday's game. We'd like to thank Bristol Rovers for their help in making it happen. "I feel he is the player that can get us out of this division and he starts on Tuesday. "For the last two years, he has been prolific in League One and we want him to continue that. He's what I would call a marquee signing."''
eelpie Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 He's only had to dip into his loose change to tie this up It does now mean that negotiations to sign other players are going to be tougher, with clubs raising their price. Who cares. The boot is on the other foot at last.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 11 August, 2009 Posted 11 August, 2009 Best news for a while. Great stuff. Good on you Alan Pardew and Mr Liebherr!
chrisobee Posted 11 August, 2009 Posted 11 August, 2009 He's what I would call a marquee signing."'' What is a "marquee signing " :smt102
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 11 August, 2009 Posted 11 August, 2009 It does now mean that negotiations to sign other players are going to be tougher, with clubs raising their price. Who cares. The boot is on the other foot at last. Other clubs may well try to play hardball but Lennie Lawrence summed it all up. When a player wants to go (as in Lambert's case a life changing move because of the salary and set up on offer) there's little a club can do but get the best deal. I'm sure that our boardroom are well aware of just how much they will be played in other such negotiations. But who cares? This signing is still invigorating me now, positive moves but not totally gung-ho in our approach.
CanadaSaint Posted 11 August, 2009 Posted 11 August, 2009 To be honest, I would give just about any player who we've had in the last 4-5 years another go under Pardew because each an every one of them would have been mis-managed under Burley, Poortvliet, Wotte or whoever else has been in charge. lordswoodsaints Posted 11 August, 2009 Posted 11 August, 2009 From the BBC Sport page: "Lambert started his career at Blackpool and has previously played for Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Rochdale." Wow, that's some pedigree.... A little bird tells me that the Pompey fans had trouble recognizing any of their players against rangers on Saturday,he also told me that the rangers fans outnumbered the pompey fans, seeing as rangers sold their full allocation of 5k that is pretty poor for a prem club. To be outnumbered by the away fans.....now that is pedigree.
