How the bloody hell did we manage to win the battle for his signing ?

Lots of money ?

Vision from AP ?

I am really chuffed about this, but surprised..

I think the penny dropped last week - in the Echo today AP talks how frustrating Nicola Cortese had found last week trying to sign players and I reckon ML freed up a bit of cash over the weekend. Considering we are doubling his wages and we have paid over a million that shows renewed committment.

It will probably have been a press photo-call at Staplewood - so the OS prob will have sent a photographer but Echo can just email it back as soon as it happens.

I would imagine a release went to the paper with details of the photo-call in, say, an hours time after the release is sent.

spoil sport:(

Sorry! Just my job as a press officer so I know how fast papers are at gettign photos up as compared with whoever is organising the photo-shoot!

Doesnt rule out another signing and doesnt explain lack of AP quote which could be because there will be a double quote!

Hmmmm I doubt this was the reason for frustration or the deal being done.

Men like Liebherr don't make their money or run companies by tracking every penny or signing off every investment but enable and support the right men like Cortese to do it for them.

I would say the protraction and then completion would be on terms or contract specifics or changing deal to do with other offers.

As well as Nicola running around loads as he has to sort 20 different things at once and difficult to prioritise as they all need doing.

do you think AP has discussed possible signings (and their potential costs) with ML at all or will it just be a case of ML saying to Nicola that you have £5m if you need it?

was told that Rasiak is suffering from a terrible bout of 'want away bad back injury'

was that a refusal to play kind of injury or a don't play in case he gets injured and prevents a transfer kind of injury?

That sounds about right, especially when on the Rovers OS they said they'd been negotiating to get the best deal for the past few days.

Well I would imagine that ML isn't too bothered about types of players, def not names of players and I would imagine he has enabled Cortese to do the bidding and negotiating as Exec Chairman.

But if it is true that ML read the boards or Echo comments or whatever then maybe he has said the fans want such and such but no more than that - if that.

Cortese is the man in charge!

Top draw signing from Pardew.

Lambert scores goals for fun in this division, and signing him is a signal of intent by the manager and the new owners.

I can only hope that there are a few more signings like this on the horizon!

Saw Lambert play when Rovers were beaten at home by Brighton at the end of last season

He reminded me a lot of James Beattie in terms of his physical presence .....large, capable of making a nuisance of himself

and very good at getting himself in the right place ..unlike Beatts, however, he also looked as if he was interested in making a lot of effort!

Great signing

I shall sleep more soundly tonight

With risk of of being shot down horrifically.... I would welcome him back. He's better than Wotton any day

Me too - he was always underrated here same as Telfer. Must be that RB position - I wonder how long it will take before Murty starts getting some stick.

I think anyone who still harboured doubts about whether Liebherr/Cortese are the real deal should shove them aside for good today. This is the strongest statement of intent yet. How many 1 million pound footballers do you think will sign for a League One club this season? And with Boro sniffing around at the same time...

Excellent news and feels like it's part of a serious long term plan. Shame it didn't happen a month earlier, but much bloody better late than never!

I can't wait to see this guy play, trying to order tickets but can't get through on the phone, or use the site!!! i'll keep trying...

But really we should have made this sort of signing when we got relegated to the championship, a proven striker who could hit 20+ goals at that level. We didn't, we let our strikers go - that's why we finished 12.

Completely different mentality now - the top goalscorer in league 1 signed...if you sign the best you'll become the best.

I think we need to be patient with him though, he may not hit off straight away - but if you want a chance to fall to a player, he's the 1 player in league 1 you'd want it to fall too.

From the BBC Sport page:

"Lambert started his career at Blackpool and has previously played for Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Rochdale."

Wow, that's some pedigree....

Bet you a pound to a piece of sh1t, our average attendance in the 3rd flight is higher than your Premiership attendances.

The blue few. HA HA

I'd have thought you had enough problems at your disintegrating club before making a puerile attempt to troll a reaction on here - btw Fratton makes Rochdale look like the Cote d'Azur . :D

Great signing.I just hope we don't lose Rasiak or Saga as we need 4 strikers in case of injuries.

I really hope we can keep Rasiak, he'll do the business in this league for sure.

Hopefully the statement of intent made by the signing of Lambert might pursuade him to stick around. Lambert\Rasiak combo = 50 goals+.

As for Saga - although he put some effort in on Sat (with poor service) his departure won't bothered me too much.
