Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Gillet On for James we need this to try & establish some control
Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Sh*t ball by Perry we are just giving the ball away to easily now.
SET Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Swindon going down then, 5-0 down to a promoted team ooops
dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 that ball was never out probably same lino as the Forum match phew
Saint Martini Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Apparently we signed a player called Gabbon.....
SET Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 sooner saga goes and replaced by someone who wants to be here the better
sydney_saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 This may be sound stupid but did Thomson score 2 from within his own half, I remember one of them but not the other?
SET Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 only one thing we need to do on training ground all week. lots and lots of defence work around corners, freekicks and crosses
sydney_saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Forgot one of those winky/tongue in cheek smilies for the grammar in that post
Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 F**K another corner its all Milwall just said 3-mins stoppage time
dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 just tell me this bloke on the stream isn't a REAL commentator surely (anything to stop the strain of the last 3mins)
SET Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 if we hold on for the point i'll be happy. opening day draw against one of the leagues better sides is a good result.
Red Alert Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Big difference, Millwall bring on a couple of subs that change the game. Our subs have been mainly anonymous.
Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Come on Saints keep them out maybe a last gasp chance Oh just cleared for A CORNER coyr
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 FT. Fair result, good game. But worried about same things as last season - no strength in the team.
so22saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Pretty good game, I'll settle for that on the opening day. Good result all round really as I'd hope it points out that we also need some new players to the new board.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 not good enough last 25 mins - cost us. should have pushed on after going one up, but let them back in to easy
sunrise Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Started to tire halfway through second half - looks like fitness is still a bit lacking.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 if we hold on for the point i'll be happy. opening day draw against one of the leagues better sides is a good result. 1-1 all over
dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 not good enough last 25 mins - cost us. should have pushed on after going one up, but let them back in to easy Think it's likely that we ran out of steam.... At least AP seems to have noticed and was doing something about it. I'll take a point, we were on telly and our opening game, fate dictated we should get nothing and we are now on minus 9 In reality 3 points would have been the minimum but that can start midweek Hope Patterson's fit, he looked the part today
tombletomble Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Good old saints. We don't like to make things easy for ourselves. Lots of positives to take from this game though. At times we looked quite good. considering that our manager hasn't had that much time to work with the players it could have been much worse. We still need to work on defending form set pieces and need some more depth to the squad. Why did we not have another stiker on the bench. What is up with Rasiak?
Cabrone Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Millwall will be there or thereabouts at the end so not a bad result. Midfield is too lightweight though, really need 1 or 2 battlers in there. 9 points till parity!
ericofarabia Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Oh well just arrived in blighty, sat in business lounge at LHR, nobody showing the footie ... I guess a draw against one of the play off teams from last year isn't too bad considering 1/ We were on Sky 2/ It is the opening game of the season and 3/ Dubai Phil was online Now where is the bar ....
glkdcdes Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 good result, considering so early in our team building. last year we would have been beaten.
VectisSaint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Fair result in the end. Losing Paterson was critical, and Millwall being able to change things exposed us. Pato was our best defender in the first half with his hold up play, then Price changed things in the centre even though he went off shortly afterwards. However, a point is a point, only 9 behind Swindon now :-) Shows we actually have a decent 1st XI, its strength in depth where we are exposed. I think on that performance 4 or 5 good players including a new striker and we could do alright.
Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 FT. Fair result, good game. But worried about same things as last season - no strength in the team. Yes agree with that when they made the substitutions we got well & truly out muscled in the middle of the park, but a lot to be encouraged about, Patterson was excellent, Harding & Murty were very good as well
Vegas Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Fair result? Probably. We looked ok, just ran out of steam towards the end. Definitely need a big commanding midfielder. Saga looked a bit isolated at times, need better link up play to the front. Something to build on though, will be interesting to see who we bring in to add to what we have.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Yeah not bad I suppose. Agree with someone above who said we're too lightweight in midfield. James, Morgan (or Schneedler as the online commentator called him), Wotton and Lallana just isn't a good enough midfield. Why wasn't Gillett on from the start?? Harding looked like he did a good job as did Murty, but we didn't have anything going forward. None of the midfielders were pushing on and the two strikers weren't dangerous - although fair play to Paterson for his goal. In fact the midfield was totally invisible today, nothing going back and nothing going forward so that needs to be looked at. Otherwise not a bad result especially considering it was the first game of the season and live on Sky - we should have got thrashed!
Leicestersaint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Well i was pleasantly surprised and thought we played pretty well for a group that are still finding out about each other. Lots of encouraging stuff - eg Harding, Paterson, Schneiderlin
spyinthesky Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 when was the last time we won our 1st game of the season and how many games on Sky now without a win A draw, in the circumstances, was a good result
ruddick Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Hmmmm not bad - 1-1 prob a fair result and good for us against one of the sides that will be there or therabouts in this league. I thought there were some clear gaps to fill and work on - but any we didn't think would be there? Don't think so. Thought the youngsters up front and then Murty and Davis with his double pen save in particular were on form. Need some signings of course but I feel we will be hearing quite a bit in next week or so - I think the attitude of the new administration has proven they can handle this and I have faith that they have the same views as the fans who turned out in force. I think odds are we will have a strong and stable first half of the season, get safe and possibly push on for a good finish. As I say not a negative free match but no negatives we didn't know about and I think they could have been avoided if there had been less Pinnacle business and more pre-season for Pardew and the boys.
Sussex Saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Good result. Played some decent stuff first half but inexperience, lack of match fitness and threadbear pre season preparation was very evident. AP will now know the size of the task and so will Mr Liebherr so maybe he'll be ready to spend some cash.
