Ah, but they were a Prem team playing lowly L2 opposition whilst we are lowly L1 playing mighty Prem opponents. On the other hand, Poopey fans are so passionate about their club that they will go to watch them whoever they are playing. This is why they need a state-of-the-art 40,000 seater stadium to fit them all in.

I must say, I'm quite seriously moved by the superhuman efforts of our friends down the road to rally to the cause, to go the extra mile to help their (currently) stricken club to scrape together every extra pound in their bit to strengthen their war chest for the rebuilding of their squad.

In fact I'm so moved I fell off my chair laughing

I was not surprised at their turnout tonight. It is consistant with their fanbase, in fact a high percentage of that did turn out. They only get good crowds when the big clubs are in town. They need a load of neutrals turn upo to fill the stadium.

I suppose a fairer comparison would be if we played a League 2 club.

Oh, hold on, Carling Cup Round 1 - Southampton v Northampton - attendance 10,921

Two leagues below them and our fan base is a third bigger.

Has anyone else noticed that our fishy friends on here have been very quiet this morning?

probably still trying to fight their way through the crowds to get out the stadium

Have they had Friday's announcement yet?

Friday's announcement is now pre-recorded so that they dont need to keep repeating it.

'We have agreed in principle to buy the club. A period of formal legal and financial due diligence will commence next week'

Increasingly I come to the conclusion that there will be no takeover and that any mention of if being imminent is a ploy to keep players at the club thinking of leaving, and encouragement for new players to sign, both up until the transfer window slams shut next Tuesday. If at the same time it quells rebellion amongst the fan base and fools some into buying STs, so much the better.

The clock is ticking towards administration, so they had better settle on which Arab billionaire they have on their wish list soon. It sure as hell isn't the fake sheik, as he isn't wealthy enough to keep them from sinking beneath the waves.

Storrie's main messages are aimed at the people he fears most, the banks that want their money next week.

He keeps telling them that things are nearly in place and he is now talking about funding being available in January.

Methinks he is still buying time while hunting investment.

If he has this quality takeover up his sleeve, why isn't funding available now?

If you were buying a club you would want to halt the slide asap and would draw up a pre-takeover agreement on immediate funding to protect your investment from relegation.

It's now getting odder than our takeover fiasco.

Next 48 hours, Friday, they can't even come up with original deadlines for activity.

Might be worth measuring up Al Fahim for a statue because at the moment it looks like his 'look at me, I own a football club' routine may have caused their business terminal damage.

The simple truth is if you really want to buy a (willing) football club and you have the necessary funds the transaction can/should be finalised in a month or 6 weeks at the most . When proceedings start to drag on beyond that time frame the alarms bells should start ringing and any 'Plan B' in existence should be dusted off pretty damn quick I'd say - if there is no Plan B then you've really got problems .

Shame - it couldn't have happened to a nicer club (not) .

Other Premier League clubs might want to ask why the FAPL are willing to underwrite p*****'s transfer activity for Dindane.

OK, it's predicated against their next tranche of TV money, but is it right the league are prepared to do this?

I'm pretty sure the Football League would not have sanctioned Saints bringing in a couple of players when they in adminstration. Just the opposite, in fact. Saints were expected to keep creditors happy by selling players.

To be fair, Pompey have done that, but I'm still mystified as to why the FAPL have agreed to underwrite the signing of Dindane.

I think a few of you need to cast your minds back a couple of months and remember how bad you felt when things looked dark for us,I don't wish that sh1te on anyone on the genuine Pompey fans as they are just like me or you,the only difference being that their sister is their mother, they live in a cesspit, they don't need Viagra when fishing and

John Westwood is the height of fashion.

According to breaking news reported in several media outlets, the Pompey takeover has been completed by Fahims' organisation that he is the sole owner of.

As Storrie teller was harping on about other Arab money and there was speculation about Arabian Princes who were billionaires, finding out that it is the fake sheik must be a bit of an anti-climax to say the least. He is nowhere wealthy enough to take them over and pay for a new stadium and decent players, especially with their other debts.

What is the FAPL?

There is the FA and there is the Premier League.

There is no such thing as the FA Premier League and there hasn't been since the mid nineties.

Unfortunately sad day for us.

With their fake Dr, modern stadium, free use of a school playing field for training, top manager, stable squad, magnificent support of a huge 6,000 fans - we have to accept we will never catch up.

Gotta hope this is true!

Storrie is a tyre kicker at his own club and if the fake sheik bombs out (is that pc to say about an arabian gentleman?) then that lot will presumably end up in administration.

That will give us a few laughs for a while but the reality is with all their debts wiped then someone somewhere (Storrie perhaps, or even 'arry) will probably be silly enough to buy the hulk for a pittance and resurrect the thing, possibly successfully.

No, the fake sheik is the best scenario as he is not putting any money in, only taking on a mountain of debt. Since his business acumen appears on a par with Rupert Lowe and he will likely have a similar manner in running the football side of things, ie very hands on whilst spending no money, then they could well plummet through the leagues in a manner we know so well!

The other logical scenario is that "dodgy" money may be used to prop it up and if that happens and the PL get wind of it then it will really hit the fan and who knows what the outcome may be, except that it won't be nice...

It will more than likely be swept under the carpet - Nothing must publically sully the PL brand after all !

I think their demise is well underway through nothing else but bad morale in the camp! The good "Dr" has hardly covered himself with glory over the past few months, and as he does'nt seem to have that many beans to spend then they will continue to lose their better players and only being able to afford to replace them by mediocrity.

Sound the death knell bell Diddyman Westwood! :D

According to one of the Skate forums, the statement on their OS that Fahim had taken over the club as sole owner, has now disappeared. As it was stated yesterday that Storrie teller was very close to getting his consortium to take over the club, there is some confusion among the blue few as to what precisely the situation is. There were rumours elsewhere on the Skate forums that Storrie had resigned.

Rumours that they were going to undergo a reverse takeover by an ex-retirement home owner are unfortunately without foundation.

Edit: Checked for myself and the announcement has not been removed. That Skate bloke doesn't know what he's on about. I know more than him, ;)

just reading their forums, it's like the pinnacle bid it's so untrue.

On Monday their local paper/station said....''Deal to be completed within 48 hours''

yesterday they said it would be completed by close of play ''today''

and now...their breaking news is fantastic...

''No announcement today - hopeful (yes - hopeful...) of an announcement tomorrow. Distin has expressed a desire to leave and the club have accepted a bid. Tommy smith also coming in for £1.5m.''

The whole thing is just cracking me up tbf.

At least our struggle will be witnessed by more fans through the turnstiles than you can scrape together in the biggest league in the world.

And you're still obsessively posting on Southampton football club forums then? Absolutely besotted with us you bitter little man.

6,000 last night. A hugely funny, dodgy takeover.

PFC are bringing us so much joy and laughter through difficult times. Thank you Portsmouth Football Club, for being more of a laughing stock than us! :)

And thank you too for being two divisions below us, it's ****ing hilarious. So then, in summary we're all happy! Great ;)

Do you not feel even a little remorse that after the fanfare you gave to your fake sheik when it seemed a few months ago that you were to be nearly as rich as Manchester City, that events have proven that Fahim doesn't have anywhere the amount of money that you will be needing to keep afloat, let alone build? Why, even yesterday your forums were listening to rumours that the Storrie consortium was talking with a billionaire Arab Prince.

Bit of an anti-climax IMO that it turns out that the relatively poor, but mouthy self-publicist Fahim triumphs at long last. I hope that you do not find out that Storrie did in fact have somebody far wealthier up his sleeve (although unlikely) Otherwise you lot will know how we felt when we got Lowe with the reverse takeover when rumours foretold of 2-3 other consortia with genuine wealth who never got to bid because our old board somehow felt it unecessary to have a look.

One has to wonder how if Fahim was wealthy enough, why he didn't take over three or four months ago, instead of waiting for all of the decent players to leave. The answer is simple. He couldn't afford to take over the level of debt that existed then and the players had to be sold to reduce the club's price down to a level that he could afford. But there is still debt, players will have to be replaced at a quality good enough to keep you in the Premiership, attendance figures are not enough to cover operational costs and there is no way that the stadium development can take place.

You're still for a very bumpy ride; plenty still to keep us laughing.

Well we'll see how happy you all are when the transfer window shuts. Will it be

a) delighted with Maradona bringing in half the Argentina squad

b) Mancini supplying the Italian revolution

c) Paul Hart explaining why Sylvan Distan has been sold & desparately searching for a replacement :D

I seem to remember that you were all very upset at the prospect of Distan going. Anyway, I'm sure we can lend you Olly Lancashire for a reasonable loan fee!!!!

Lets just see what happens eh? You may be right and it's all been smoke and mirrors with little real funding available. It might be that Peter Storries consortium has merely smoked Al Fahim out into completing the deal. Speculate all you like about 'administration' and 'relegation' etc etc, but for now the deal appears to have been done. What happens next? No idea....

Who gives a toss about Pompey?

They aren't Saints so I couldn't care less if they are owned by the Arabian Marc Jackson.

You truly have no idea how

1) Funny

2) Close to the truth

That comment really is..

So Sultan Bin Trump has pulled it off. That could, in all honesty, be the best news Saints fans have heard all year.

Beneficial owner boys.

That line will come back to haunt you one day.

Off on my hols tonight, so will be on the beach not the internet, so hopefully this will all be done and we can have a good larf by the time I find an internet cafe...

(Of as I'm following in his footsteps to some extend I promise to pass on any gossip about UP's trip - honest) :D
