chrisobee Posted 6 August, 2009 Share Posted 6 August, 2009 I assume Tremlett is injured again ! On paper does not look the strongest of bowling line ups for us so I imagine we need to build a very big innings score and rely mainly on Tahir. NI76 Posted 6 August, 2009 Share Posted 6 August, 2009 Very interesting team selection, no Cork, Tremlett, Taylor or Lumb. Not sure how many, if any, are injured. I don't know what Tremlett's contract situation is, but I have a hunch that if we can sign an opening bowler in the Winter that Tremlett might just get released. I can't remember the last time he produced a match winning performance in any competition for us and I think he needs to go to another County where his Dad isn't involved and work with a coach who'll give him the massive kick up the backside that he needs. Latest score 51/0 - I'm sure some posters will want Carberry and Adams in the Test team as they're both in form!
bungle Posted 6 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 6 August, 2009 50 for the opening wicket (53-0 currently). I see Lumb has been dropped, which is interesting. Am quite happy with the bowling attack, Tomlinson is probably our best seamer in the Championship, and Griffiths did alright last year if I recall. Probably resting a few due to game vs Yorkshire starting Tuesday.
NI76 Posted 6 August, 2009 Share Posted 6 August, 2009 Agree about Tomlinson but don't think Griffiths is good enough yet to open the bowling. Would have played Cork against his old club or Taylor. I thought Balcombe looke decent the few times I saw him earlier in the season but he seems well out of favour now.

Isn't Taylor on a one-day contract? I know this doesn't prevent them from playing him, but presumably they'd have to give him more money if they did? Would rather see an improving youngster in the CC if I'm honest, but accept Taylor could do a job.
Leicestersaint Posted 6 August, 2009 Share Posted 6 August, 2009 99 for 1 at the moment. Weather forecast doesn't look good for later today. I am surprised they have dropped Lumb.
bungle Posted 6 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 6 August, 2009 Good to see Crawley batting at his usual barnstorming pace!

bungle Posted 7 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 7 August, 2009 Finished up at 144-2, with Crawley bagging 21 from 6 million deliveries (I may have exaggerated). Hopefully Adams can bat well again today.

chrisobee Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 Tremlett was definitely injured( of course ), Cork was rested, Taylor really only plays one day games ( in his contract I think) but no idea about Lumb. Still I suspect another draw with rain about and several hours already lost.
Leicestersaint Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 Now 212 for 5 - our batting is too brittle and inconsistent.
Leicestersaint Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 Better - 263 for 5 while England collapse at Leeds
Leicestersaint Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 274 for 7 - Burrows is no Pothas when it comes to batting is he?
bungle Posted 7 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 7 August, 2009 9 down now. 0 runs from the tail. Just hope we can grab the 13 more needed for the bonus point.

chrisobee Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 274 for 7 - Burrows is no Pothas when it comes to batting is he? Very few wicket keepers are TBH !
chrisobee Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 337 all out. Lancs 9/0. It was pretty much all Ervine in the 10th wicket partnership of 50and he was out for 114. However, great credit to Tomlinson for hanging in and being 6*. A very lop sided scorecard with Ervine 114, Adams 107 and the next best being Carberry with 33. chrisobee Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 Lancs 65/1 off 23 overs, wicket for Griffiths. However, as I feared our bowling line up is looking very thin and Tahir has bowled 6 overs already. Odds on another draw I fear unless Tahir and Dawson can find some turn but the Rose Bowl is a very good batting pitch these days of course. Leicestersaint Posted 7 August, 2009 Share Posted 7 August, 2009 Yes the bowling line up looks weak - lancs close on 106 for 1.
Leicestersaint Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 It's now 343 for 3 - why doesn't Dawson get more overs?
Leicestersaint Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 487 for 4 - we could lose this if we aren't careful.

chrisobee Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 Now on 130* out of 205/3. Certainly in great form.
wadesmith Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 What has gone wrong with our bowling? Our best bowler has a season average of 29.50 & he's only taken 10 wickets. These stats point towards relagation unless we can start taking wickets
converted_saint Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 Carberry for England. May be a bit of a gamble, but he can't do any worse than Bopara!
chrisobee Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 Carberry for England. May be a bit of a gamble, but he can't do any worse than Bopara! That is a fact ! 136 * off 229 balls clearly indicates a player in form. Unfortunately I don't think the weather is helping our trump card Tahir and if you remove Tremlett and Cork the bowling is not that penetrative. Griffiths did bowl pretty well but really we need Tremlett and Cork back and a pitch which helps spinners in our remaining games.
Weston Saint Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 For those interested, Lumb & Cork were not injured but rested. Tremlett was injured.
chrisobee Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 For those interested, Lumb & Cork were not injured but rested. Tremlett was injured. Yes, I was aware Cork was rested though was not 100% sure about Lumb. It was pretty clear Tremlett was injured otherwise there seemed no point leaving him out but I reckon on that pitch even a 5 day game would most likely have been drawn ! NI76 Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 For those interested, Lumb & Cork were not injured but rested. Tremlett was injured. Lumb was dropped, you might rest a 38 year old opening bowler but not a much less than 38 year old batsman. White was quoted before the game as saying that Lumb's figures in the Championship don't stack up this season (he's averaging 23) and that the selectors were unanimous that Vince should come back in after being away with England U-19's so Lumb was the one to drop out. Not surprised about Tremlett being injured, wonder what excuse he came up with this time, he must be running out.
chrisobee Posted 9 August, 2009 Share Posted 9 August, 2009 Can't really blame Tremlett for being injury prone, that's just the way it is with some players and if we are frustrated then you can only imagine what Chris ( and his Dad Tim) must feel. Both nice guys so I'm not going to rub salt into their wounds.
bungle Posted 10 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 10 August, 2009 I imagine that both fast bowlers will be changed for Tuesday's game, with Cork and Tremlett (if fit) coming back, or perhaps Balcombe. It is odd that over the last couple of years we have done well because of good bowling, but this year when our batting picks up a bit we just can't get 20 wickets. Still, if I recall it was a game at Basingstoke last summer than turned our fortunes around!
bungle Posted 11 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 11 August, 2009 Seeing as no-one has bothered to start a thread about the Hants v Yorks game (and I can't), I'd like to point out that Lumb and Tremlett are back (no Crawley or Tomlinson), and we were put into bat and now 84-1, with Carberry out. Bit slow, but seeing as we were put in I imagine there is something in the pitch. I am going to the game tomorrow, hurrah!
