Stern hits back at Pardew

He was shunted off last season and the spin on the OS was disgusting.

Delay in putting a deal to him is greedy footballers speak for the club was dragging its heels in coming up to his wage expectation. Playing at the highest level is greedy footballer speak for getting the highest wages possible.

Its his prerogative to earn as much as he likes but to have a side swipe at the club for not meeting his wage demands lack's a bit of class.

TBF he did keep us up...

perhaps, but if the lazy ****er had worked a bit harder we would have defended from the front properly, conceded less goals and perhaps won more points.

I must add that he scored a couple of absolute beauties but boy did he miss some chances.

One final thing, I want to point out that this is not sour grapes. I never liked him, never understood why we brought him to the club and now hope we can find someone that will score a few goals AND actually work hard as well.

There were 11 players on the pitch that day, if the other 10 were not there we would have gone down. Stern John is just like the rest of them, a greedy bastard!

Le Tissier had 10 teammates on the pitch too, you know.

Part of the relegated 2008/09 squad. Possibly the worst ever at Saints. Don't bang your arse on the door on the way out. I don't care what you think Stern, just **** off.

"Part" in the sense that he spent 95% of it with a competely different club ?

Swiss billionaire ... derisory contract offer. :|

Kelvin seemed happy enough with his deal and he had offers from West Ham. I doubt he'd be offered more than we'd offer SJ.

Just to clarify, I don't have any beef with John for leaving, if he wants to play at a higher level that's his perogative. It's the way in which he did it that p*sses me off. Coming back to Saints to get fit, knowing we were in delicate financial times and it might be a while, if ever, that we get round to offering him a new contract. Then turning down the offer, going to Palace and claiming it's our fault.

But it is our fault. If we hadn't been in jeopardy of being in admin he'd have probably played last season, if we hadn't been in admin he'd have probably got a new deal sooner - he might still have left, but the circumstances we're of his making, and I can't blame him for wanting to leave given how he got shipped out to suit the club's wage bill, and with us having breached his (and everyone else's) contract twice since May.

Bit harsh blaming Pards and the current regime for what clearly was the fault of the stooges we had in charge before.

Oh well, time to move on - good luck to him, better luck to us.

Looking at the actual quote he doesn't blame Pardew at all, all he does is say "we both know what the situation was" and then accurately explains what the situation was, albeit with an arguable comment about "keeping us up" the season before. The headline has little relevance to the comments - again...

All he's said of Pardew is that he knew what was going on and that Pardew knows what John's reasons for not staying are - the WORST interpretation being that he got messed around previously and wanted out, and had the chance to do so for more money.

However, I can already see that this is going to turn into a Kevin Phillips-esque witch hunt, based on a bunch of people not actually reading what he said, only the headline... :smt103

SJ is right - he was treated badly by the club (i.e. R****t L**e).

I also completely understand why he would rather play at a higher level at this late stage of his career.

Best of luck Stern and thanks for the goals but you've moved on and this is all water under the bridge now.

Draw a line and move on.

He does have a bit of a point about being shoved out last season. But I don't really believe the point about no contract being there. I think it was probably there all along he just chose not to sign it.

John makes a fool of himself - or maybe he didn't notice that the club was in Administration. Truth is he knows perfectly well that the administrators could not offer him a contract. As for last season, the whole point was that the team had to be run at minimal cost so he also knows what the reasons were when he wasn't played. If he wasn't intending to stay, he should have told the new Manager as soon as he was appointed. But to try to make something of it now in the press just shows what depths some journeymen will sink to - presumable for a fee from the paper. Good riddance.

I'm with Pardew on this one. John knows that financial restraints prevented us playing him last year when Lowe was in charge. He also knows damned well that Pardew wanted to keep him when our new owner had taken over. He shouldn't have strung us along thinking that it was a realistic proposition signing him whilst he availed himself of our training facilities in the meantime

So as far as I'm concerned, you can sod off, John. We will replace you with somebody better, somebody who wants to be here with us and who will help us overtake Palarse.

He strung the club along, which is what Pardew's remarks were all about. This is a case of a small-minded footballer taking revenge on his former club for mistreating him. The problem is that everyone involved in the decision to force him out a year ago is gone already. That means he took revenge on people who had nothing to do with his enforced spell at Bristol C. I'm sure he's proud of himself.
