smithy Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Do we really need a golfer where is he going to play ? In the back 9?
Tac-tics Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 do you know about Murty ? Not yet, in the same boat, deffinately been offered a deal, i'll get back to you tonight. From what I know, he is set to sign, just a question of when. *My own guess* they are both going to be announced tomorrow. *Fact* Jaidi is today or tomorrow.

smithy Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 That should be the defence sorted, now let's get the forwards dealt with!
chrisobee Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/Steve+Stricker/41 He'll do us to a tee
chrisobee Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Cheers Tic Tacs. I think you're confusing him with Minty TBH
Block 5 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 That should be the defence sorted, now let's get the forwards dealt with! Jaidi would be a great signing. Not so sure about the defence now being sorted....... one injury and we'd be fooked as usual. Let's get some cover.

Toadhall Saint Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 I think you're confusing him with Minty TBH Well if you can flick a mint with one then you can flick a mint with two.
Professor Posted 5 August, 2009 Posted 5 August, 2009 Does this morning's trumpeting of Murty signing, after he's been around for 3 weeks, suggest that Jaidi might not have passed the medical, otherwise surely it would have been a double announcement? Murty will be a good aquisition but the need for a dominant CB is crucial.

Professor Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 So according to The Echo, the delay is not medical, but failure to agree terms. Hope its true that Pardew has other options as I don't like to think the club is being taken for a ride as per Stern John. Beginning to hope he doesn't sign as although, apart from age, he looks the right type of CB, its better to have players who are keen to play for us, rather than another journeyman.

I agree, either sign or sod off. I am sick and tired of these foreign mercenaries and their "money games".
Wildgoose Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 To be fair to the guy, he has not had many other clubs and I guess is looking at his options. Frustrating for us but normal and fair enough really. I don't see it the same as with Stern John as he clearly took us for a ride and had indicated he wanted to stay...... A warm welcome if he signs, but I do hope AP has another CB lined up if it falls through!
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I think it is more his "people" As in the Carlos tevez sarga
ottery st mary Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 He is waiting to see if Dibden gets the posters of this forum to meet up this Saturday...The big man is purely testing out the spirit of Southampton first.
DT Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 'Footballer wants more money' shock. In other news, bears head for woods in ablution bid. Pope denies he is a Muslim.
Gorgiesaint Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I agree, either sign or sod off. I am sick and tired of these foreign mercenaries and their "money games". But if you had a job offer, but in the background possibly had another offer coming at a higher level & potentially on a higher salary (possibly double what we have offered if he goes to a CCC club) then wouldn't you wait? Whilst it is frustrating, his agent is only trying to get him the best deal. Th fact that he's foreign has nothing to do with it as any British player would be as bad. The good news is the season starts this weekend so that should push him into making a quick decision.
Yarm Saint Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I agree, either sign or sod off. I am sick and tired of these foreign mercenaries and their "money games". Ditto...couldn't agree more.

Tac-tics Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Perhaps Tac-tics can throw a little more light on the situation...??? Shocked, spoke to two players who said he joined in. I know he was at s.t marys as well. He did'nt apply for the work permit, so Im outstanded.
Runaway Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 I don't understand this AT ALL. He didn't apply for a permit because he believed he wouldn't get one? What?? Well, you NEVER going to get one if you don't apply in the first place! Something just doesn't make sense!!
SaintRichmond Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 I don't understand this AT ALL. He didn't apply for a permit because he believed he wouldn't get one? What?? Well, you NEVER going to get one if you don't apply in the first place! Something just doesn't make sense!! You are quite right .... and I for one do not believe what we are being told ... Jaidi is a Footballer, released by Birmingham .... SO, does he want to continue to be a Footballer in the UK ??? .... If so, he needs Work Permit HAS HE GOT A CURRENT ONE ????? ..... NO ????? Then why BOTHER to tout himself around ???? NO PERMIT = NO WORK ..... is his Agent MAD ??? I don't believe it Here we are, on the verge of our first match, starting o - 10 points, and we have a Team NO BETTER than the one we started with last season, with "cracks" all too apparent to most I know we were "saved", and I know the infrastructure of the Club is better, BUT .... we NEEDE NEW PLAYERS ..... They cost money We are the only Div 1 Club that has not spent CASH to get a player In Div 1 we are not talking Millions SOMETHING is still wrong somewhere, IMHO:cool:
Scummer Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 HAS HE GOT A CURRENT ONE ????? ..... NO ????? Then why BOTHER to tout himself around ???? NO PERMIT = NO WORK ..... is his Agent MAD ??? Big deal. Have the clubs who HAVE spent £££££ managed to pick up better players than Harding or Murty? IMO - no.

Common thread in most of your posts. These guys are planning for the long term, not taking a short term view and that means they will not buy in players for the sake of it at a time when we are most disadvantaged. I suspect they will settle for steady progress and consolidation this season and then have a push next year. I really don't believe that ML would buy Saints and then proceed to let it rot in L1.

I do not believe we have been given the real reason as to why the Jaidi deal fell through either. I followed this point up with the fact we have been misinformed and mislead by previous regimes and that I hoped we would not suffer the same under ML's leadership. God smite me down for saying that. I am glad we are under ML's guidance, believe me I am! But if he wants to make SFC a successful business, it needs to be in the Premiership benefitting from the improved attendances, Sky money and higher marketing ability. Without bringing in players capable of pushing us up the league, then this will not happen. Remember, we have two strikers in Rasiak and Saga, who do not wish to be here. So we cannot really rely on them. Add that to the fact we have lost David McGoldrick, Bradley Wright Phillips, Andrew Surman, Stern John, Nathan Dyer, John Paul Seize, Zoltan Liptak, Jason Euell plus Im sure a few i have missed out on, we have a team a LOT weaker than last year. We need players and the sooner this is rectified, the quicker we can start moving up the league heading to the Premiership where we will become a profitable company!
SaintRichmond Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 totally agree! I think we are in good shape! Bring 3-4 players in before end of window, then championship/premier loans and we will be sorted! Great theory .... deadline 31st August ?? ...... By then, with our Current "weaknessess, we could be miles behind, still stuck on - 10 points WHO WOULD WANT TO COME THEN ????? The damage would have already been done ...... same as last season Pinnacle cost us 5 weeks ....... but Pardew has had adequate time since to "attract" somebody Don't try to tell me that ALL the players so far signed up by other Clubs would NOT have strengthened us .... some would have done Div 1 Clubs with average gates of 6000 - 7000 are "attracting" players With our set up and infrastructure, WE should be able to attract MORE players than we are led to believe at present

He hasn't had long though, whatever you say. He's had to come in and assess the squad, looking at what is missing - search for and appoint his backroom staff. Also, taking into account the state of our scouting system, it's entirely possible that Pard's has had to undertake alot of scouting on new players too. It's not like FM - oh he's got good stats, I'll sign him. You've got to take in everything that the player has to offer (what are his strengths/weaknesses/would he improve us?) - this is 99% of the time a scouts job. (But we don't have any, according to Pards) His hands aren't tied as such - but it's a bloody tricky situation to come into and start buying instantly.

I do NOT believe that "everyone is lying" Instead of slagging me off, let me know your take on it then .... WHY would Jaidi's agent tout him around, knowing that WITHOUT having a work permit, HE CAN'T PLAY That's normal Agent practice is it .... I say it's a load of Bull " stedy progress", "consolidation" .... GREAT WORDS ... but you STILL need a COMPETITIVE TEAM for that to happen Others on here have said that we start against Millwall with a Team WEAKER than the one we had last season .... so I am not alone in thinking as I do I'll say it again, IMHO, I do not believe the Jaidi scenario as it has been put across by SFC .... It really does not make any sense
S-Clarke Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Others on here have said that we start against Millwall with a Team WEAKER than the one we had last season .... so I am not alone in thinking as I do Of course we're bloody weaker - we're a league lower. People seem to be forgetting that.
thorpie the sinner Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Of course we're bloody weaker - we're a league lower. People seem to be forgetting that. I still think on face value our defence tomorrow is stronger!! I thought first half against Ajax was very solid!

It really does not make any sense A formal application for a work permit cannot be made until a contract has been signed. Until an application has been made, nobody can know for sure if that application will be approved. The department can offer guidelines, but not individual decisions. SFC's line makes perfect sense, your conspiracy theory does not. As has already been noted, of course we are weaker than last season, we are a league lower and dealing with rebuilding after administration.
krissyboy31 Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 I still think on face value our defence tomorrow is stronger!! I thought first half against Ajax was very solid! With Thomas "fit", we do actually have a proven CH in that position instead of a boy, who probably will never make it. We also have two proper full-backs, instead of make-shift midfielders filling those roles. I actually think our starting 11 is as strong, if not stronger than last season.
SaintRichmond Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Of course we're bloody weaker - we're a league lower. People seem to be forgetting that. No, I'm not forgetting that ..... we had a weak side last year, and paid the price ... But the "weak" side of last year has got WEAKER. Quite a few players have left, with few coming in OK, I know it cannot be an instant "fix" ... but what I do think is crazy, is the mindset of "lets review things after 31st August" .........by then, we will be FIVE matches into the season, (a possible 15 points) ........... ... It won't be much use then, if we are stuck on the bottom, still on - 10, will it ??? .... we won't attract many then will we ???

To be fair SR, I don't think the club are reviewing matters after Aug 31, just trying to sort out weaknesses properly. It wouldn't surprise me if we signed at least two players next week at latest and then one more the week after. I just feel there is an air of positivity that the corner is being turned. hope I am right!

He can only renew it once he is offered an extension of his current contract or offered a contract by another club. The terms by which he was originally given his work permit may well of changed in that period. The rules in which they are handed out have also been tightened in the last 18 months.
