SaintPaddy Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Below is a copy of letter received from David Luker:- Memo: Block 4 & 5 Itchen Stand Season 2009/10 Dear Supporter, My sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the closure of the rear four rows in blocks 4 and 5 of the Itchen Stand. This measure has been taken to reduce the possibility of confrontation caused by supporters standing in front of the Corporate Boxes as seen last season. This often involved Police action which ultimately costs the club heavily. You may or may not be aware of the disorder in block 4 and 5 last season when Southampton played Doncaster on 17 January 2009. The disorder at this fixture lead to supporter bans and the increase in Police categories for the remainder of the season costing the Club in excess of £60,000. We will continue to do our best to seat supporters in this area with the help of the Police. Closing off the rear four rows will help us achieve this goal whilst reducing the risk of confrontation and disturbance to all supporters. Whilst we will always do our best to put supporters first in our matchday operations, safety is paramount and will always remain so. Whilst the stadium falls way below capacity I will do all I can to reduce possible confrontation in any area of the stands. I hope you enjoy the season ahead Yours sincerely Mark Long Safety Officer
saints_is_the_south Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Back four rows will be closed in the Northam on Saturday on Police advice, strange but true. So where are those with ST's there going to go? Is it the back 4 rows for every block? If so thats f*cking ridiculous closing them for any of them let alone 40 which is quite a way from the away fans.
Calvin Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 I will definitely be there. I can't wait to hear the atmosphere and banter.
JRM Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 so in other words it's an easy excuse, some of the power hungry stewards having been trying to get people to sit down in itchen corner and notham for years...now they're saying they don't want to upset any corporate fans but really it is just a further attempt at killing off a vocal laddish part of the ground. Appy Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 I haven't had a call or anything to tell me about my seat in the northam being out of use. I stand in the back row.

londonsaint1604 Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Yes but where did he get it from?? I suspect he just made it up. There's at least some logic in closing the back 4 rows in block 4 but closing the back 4 of the northam wouldn't serve any purpose.

saints_is_the_south Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Yes but where did he get it from?? I actually know langleysaint & he happened to be telling me in the pub over the weekend about him knowing a few of the police/stewards that work at SMS so i'd imagine this is where he has heard this. Langleysaint Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Hello Saints is the South, the information was given to me by a steward down the mill on Monday night, he would have no reason to lie, he may have got his wires crossed about what stand the rows were to be closed. I offered this information in good faith like he would have done but as usual on here people jump down your throat. PS I don`t know any OB but they might know me?? derry Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 It will be interesting on Saturday in block 4. This confirms what I was told at the Hearts game. Look out for a large Steward/Police presence in that area.
Alain Perrin Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 There is an easy solution to this. Spread the cost of the extra policing across the back four rows of the affected area. £120K a season. 4 rows * 25(?) seats in a row = 100 seats. So a season ticket there would cost £1500. Excellent value to stand up I would say. Any takers?

Dan Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 Can't, my mate who I got a season ticket with also wouldn't miss it, so if I did take her, she'd have to sit elsewhere! Don't matter though, she is coming down the week after, on a non-Saints day Huddersfield away? Stick to seeing Girls on weekdays or the close season.
