surrey1saint Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 (edited) Right, it would seem that Jaidi's agent is putting his client about a bit to get the best deal possible. Jaidi has been training with us and a contract has been agreed in principle, now it's up to Radhi to decide whether his future lies with us or not. As I understand, he's holding out for more money, but I can't see Saints improving the contract offer on the table. Don't be surprised if a Championship side comes in for him and we miss out. The fact that he's stalling on signing a deal with us suggests he's not totally committed anyway so maybe it would be best to look at alternative targets. Thanks for the update Bailey....sounds a little unlikely for Millwall game then? Edited 6 August, 2009 by surrey1saint

The fact that he's stalling on signing a deal with us suggests he's not totally committed anyway so maybe it would be best to look at alternative targets. Must have been a great introduction at training: "Right, this is Radhi everyone. He's going to be signing for us as long as no-one else offers him more money before his pen hits the paper. Just like Stern, he's probably only using us to get fit until a CCC club comes in but make him feel at home anyway." Nothing like a bit of commitment from a potential new signing...
OldNick Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 suggests he's not totally committed anyway so maybe it would be best to look at alternative targets. I agree if he feels any resentment that he's not on enough money he will not give his all. Get another IMO
Bailey Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Thanks for the update Bailey. I think NC and AP have to wake up to the fact that to entice players good enough to get us promotion they are going to have to top the going rate for this league. To be fair I think the contract on offer is a good one, but at 33, soon to be 34, this is going to be Jaidi's last club so he has every right to look around for the best deal possible. Personally, I hope he does sign as he would be ideal for us, especially in League One, but if a Championship team do come in with a late offer, then I can't see us getting him.
st basil Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Please note i do not post but i can tell you that Jaidi is training with the players at St Marys today!
Master Bates Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I've been told that if we build it, he will come.
dubai_phil Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Love the negativity about Jaidi in case he is trying to get a few dollars more... How many of us have never tried to negotiate a discount, ask for a raise, try to squeeze an extra few quid out of a new prospective employer? Damned mercenaries the lot of us as well :-)
krissyboy31 Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I've been told that if we build it, he will come. Build what?

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Please note i do not post but i can tell you that Jaidi is training with the players at St Marys today! Hopefully, we'll impose a deadline of this evening and say sign up or forget it. We need a centre half before Saturday and that means signing someone before midday tomorrow. I guess it's a positive he's still training with us but, as I said in my earlier post, I hope he's not just using us to get fit.
Prince Jazzbo Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Deal has collapsed. Couldn't get a work permit.

hectors house Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Let's not assume that because he hasn't signed it means Saints have not offered him a good deal. I'll be VERY pleased if he signs but equally I would hate to think the club are blackmailed into paying more than a fair wage for this league. For the short term (whilst we are on -10) we are not in best negotiating position and we are bordering on desperate to get a few bodies in (IMO) but let's not panic. As unexciting as it is sounds it make take a season of consolidation before we can start making the strides forward that we are all so desperate to see.
Ponty Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I don't even understand how the f*** that happens. He's been playing in the UK for ages.
PokingFun Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8187306.stm That is quite bizarre given that he has played consistently in this country for many years now at Bolton and Birmingham. We certainly should appeal this. I guarantee if he was looking to sign for a premiership club he would get the required paperwork!
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 I'm sure we can appeal, although it would help our cause more if we spelt Southampton "Manchester United" for the duration of the appeal.
S-Clarke Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 How can he not receive a work permit, when he's been with Bolton and Brum for the past 6 seasons? Thought he would be too good to be true.
OldNick Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 we must have the record for the amount of work permits turned down

We certainly should appeal this. I guarantee if he was looking to sign for a premiership club he would get the required paperwork! But maybe that's the point. He is an EX international footballer looking to sign for a 3RD TIER English football club. Probably does not give him enough points on the Immigration visa/wp scheme.
saintbletch Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 How can he not receive a work permit, when he's been with Bolton and Brum for the past 6 seasons? Thought he would be too good to be true. Presumably he's met the criteria previously (something about playing in a certain percentage of his national team's games and if memory serves his national team must be within a certain % of the top of the FIFA rankings - although I could have made that bit up) but now doesn't. Could Birmingham extend his contract and loan him? Messy I guess. That's a real shame.
stevegrant Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 The ruling certainly used to be that the player had to have played in 75% of his country's games for which he was eligible for (if he was suspended for any period, I don't think those games count), and the country had to be in the top 70 in the FIFA rankings. Whether that's changed recently, I've no idea. From April 2008 (the furthest back the FIFA website has match lineups) to now, Tunisia have played the following games: 1/6/08: Burkina Faso - Jaidi played (yellow card) 7/6/08: Seychelles - played 15/6/08: Burundi - played (yellow card) 21/6/08: Burundi - didn't play, presumably suspended 6/9/08: Burkina Faso - didn't play, unused sub 28/3/09: Kenya - played 6/6/09: Mozambique - played 20/6/09: Nigeria - didn't play, unused sub So from 8 competitive games in the last 15 months, he's played 5, which is only 62.5%. Even taking into account the game he was possibly suspended for, 5 from 7 is still only 71.4%, so that'll be the reason.
Clifford Nelson Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 The criteria has got to do with the amount of international games they've played for their country. At the time of his last work permit he was a regular with Tunisia, I gather, but he isn't any longer. He therefore doesn't meet the criteria. I'm surprised that Saints didn't know that.

stevegrant Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Amazed that no one at the club new this. Seems like a **** up. Hopefully AP has been lining up someone else... It's worth bearing in mind, before anyone uses that data to bash people with, that there was an African Cup of Nations tournament in January 2008, where Tunisia played 4 games. If he played in all 4 games, that would give him 9 from 12, which is 75%. Unfortunately I can't find any lineup data for those games on the FIFA website, the CAF website or Wikipedia.

stevegrant Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 let me help you. He played in all three group games but not the quarter final in which they lost to Cameroon. There would probably be grounds for appeal based on him missing one world cup qualifying game through suspension and one ANC match presumably either through injury or suspension. With those two games ignored, he's played 8 from 10 competitive games, which would be enough to be eligible for the work permit.
Chez Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 If selected, yes. Not as far as I'm aware. then it's looking obvious that he didn't meet the basic 75% criteria. Seems strange that an appeal has not been mentioned anywhere in these news reports.
Chez Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 anyone know how long an appeal takes to organise/conclude?
stevegrant Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 anyone know how long an appeal takes to organise/conclude? Shouldn't be too long. However, it actually now appears that the BBC story was wrong and that they've not actually applied for the work permit yet because of the likelihood it'll be rejected, so they're "taking advice"...

hectors house Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 This is a shot in the dark but I notice Tunisia have a game on Wednesday, if Jaidi played would this put him over the 75% mark? It might explian why Saints have (allegedly) not applied for a permit, maybe they are waiting?

It might explian why Saints have (allegedly) not applied for a permit, maybe they are waiting? The thought had crossed my mind that maybe the story about the work permit was a cover whilst they apply to stop other clubs getting involved. Who else would talk to player who 'apparantly' can't get a work permit? Pardew has said the deal is not 100% dead, so how do they progress it if he's passed a medical and agreed terms - apply for the missing bit, the work permit.
hectors house Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 Hey, you can't blame a guy for dreaming! I know it's a long shot but you never know.

Scummer Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 (edited) that is inspired. It would probably work as well. Wasn't he on 72.8% or something? Edit: Although the theory breaks down a bit when you see he's not in the squad...... http://www.cafonline.com/competition/african-cup-of-nations-angola_2010/news/3160-tunisia-squad-for-ivory-coast-friendly.html Edited 10 August, 2009 by Scummer
saints_is_the_south Posted 10 August, 2009 Posted 10 August, 2009 If we could somehow get this deal sorted it would be awesome alongside the signing of Lambert, add those 2 Stockport guys, Tom Craddock & the Kilmanock midfielder to that & we will be looking very good!
