Jahidi CB Bolton being spoken to

A bit OTT IMO, he has some very good aspects to his game, learned over a long and good carreer, so surely merits his place in a squad which will have regular injuries throughout the season !!

I agree eurosaint - very OTT.

The only defender ever to win FIFA world player of the year was a 5'9" CB. So height, as Perry has proved throughout his career at higher levels, whilst being incredibly important in the team as a whole, isn't essential. And speed whilst also being important isn't as much of an issue in League 1 if the team defence is organised correctly.

Personally I've always been impressed with Perry's performances. I'd love to have a team of players who can read the game as well as he does.

This has just come up on the Sky Sports transfer update page...

''10.36 Free agent Radhi Jaidi looks set to join Southampton as reports suggest he has passed a medical at St Mary's.''

Not sure if this is based on ''Sky Sources'' or they're just rehashing the news from yesterday.

Wiki had this earlier but then deleted it!

Jaidi joined Southampton on August 4th 2009. He signed on a free transfer and agreed a 1 year deal with the option of a 2nd year and he will be given the number 6 shirt.

Anyone can write and edit whatever they want on Wiki. The least reliable source ever :D

Will be interesting to see if he gets the number 6 shirt!

some brum comments....

Never thought I'd be saying that but he has been magnificent in the last dozen or so games. It would be very disloyal and undeserving to boot him out.

I wouldn't want him as first choice against the better teams with classy strikers who can outwit him on the ground, but there are a number of sides that will launch it to tall strikers, so it might make sense for him to play those games. In addition he would be vital coming on as an extra defender when we are trying to protect a one goal lead against the top four.

has been absolutely outstanding at the business end of the season...contrary to those who think he is past the premiership i think his experience and footballing brain will be vital to keeping the likes of ridgewell in check.

Jaidi is a true pro who wouldnt kick up a fuss if he wasnt in the team (I wouldnt have thought anyways)

Keeping him around to use in the games needed (such as against Stoke when they bombard you aerially) and up against the bigger powerful centre forwards, I reckon would be a good option to have IMO.

He sounds perfect for us, and this league.

anyone know any Birmingham fans? what did they think of him? why did they release?

From what I've seen they like him. Played over 30 league games for a team promoted to the Prem last season. Released him as he doesn't have enough pace for the Premiership, that shouldn't be as much of a problem in League One and he should win every header :)

where reports = rumours. Probably off this board and others.

Lets hope we get him (or another CB) signed and registered in time to play against Millwall. Does anyone know when he'd need to sign by?

Why were their comments made as if he still was a Birmingham player?

Were they old comments or is he still potentially a Birmingham player? I thought I had read that his contract had not been renewed and was therefore a free agent.

Either way it sounds like they will be losing exactly what we need.

It was comments off a brum forum when they found out he wasn't being offered a new deal

If we can sign him and by some miracle Thomas can play Vs Millwall, then we can relax, at least a little. If they can both avoid knocks for a couple of weeks while Pardew adds more names to the squad, then things will truly be looking up.

People talk about the whole squad being in need f strengthening but that is a long term view. Rasiak and Saga - whilst they are here - can score goals for fun in this league. We have a great first choice goalie too. And like I said, if we sign this guy and get Thomas fit, that's three out of four areas covered in the short term. We just need some bite in midfield.

It could be regarding a coaching role, advisory, anything!

I just know he was on the phone to an old friend from his Charlton days called "Matty".

I'm sure there is likely to be more than one person called Matthew working at Charlton player or staff, so to say it is 110% Matthew Holland is stretching it. :)
