Jahidi CB Bolton being spoken to

Would be just our luck. Rumour from a reliable source?

No. Not at all. Just two different sources. One on another forum claimed that Jaidi had been sniffing around a few other clubs but everyone had worries about him play many games this year because his knee is about to baloon up. While another, a mate who does a bit of coaching for Southampton occasionaly, claims he had heard that he was here yesterday but he'd heard there had been problems with the medical.

Could just be they were looking at the knee more in depth.

I expect him to be announced as signed very shortly mind, and it is a cracking signing, although i'm weary after hearing these "rumours".

I'm not sure why people keep writing Perry off, just because he's 36. He was one of our main players last year and he's very fit.

As someone said above, playing Perry (the calm/composed centre half, who can play it out) alongside Jhadi (the tough tackling, big beast of a centre back) will be the makings of a rock solid defense at L1 level IMO.

I'll tell you why, because he is a slow midget and that is a terrible combination for a centre back. As good as his positional play migth be we are constantly caught out at set pieces. He just does not win enough headers in vital areas. I'm not talking about winning headers from goal kicks, I'm talking about balls in the box, when you don't have a run up. Height is everything in these situations.

I would add that I totally disagree with your assessment about his composure when bringing it out from the back. IMO he is appauling when in posession. He is neither comfortable on the ball nor a decent passer.

Last season Jardi had Rigewell alongside of him. He offers a fair amount of pace and did a lot of Jardi work for him - chasing players out wide and down the channels. Perry doesn't do that very well either.

For me getting Jardi in with JPS alongside him would make us formidable at the back. With Harding offering extra height we might actually start looking like a team of giants.

Perry gives everything but if you want to win things you need to be ruthless and I'd start right there at CB if I wanted to win the league.

Great if true. Decent defender - esp at this level, and weighed in with a number of goals too if memory serves.

six in 90 odd games for Brum (one season in Prem, 2 in CCC)

eight in 35 for Bolton in Prem.

Don't think we will be seeing much of Thomas this season.

Mentally weak and a hypochondriac to boot was a verdict of someone close to the players a year or two back. When the tough get going Thomes goes missing.

That just confirms what I've thought for a long time. Isn't he on his third injury already this pre-season? Knee, blister, back... Over the years we come to spot this sequence of events when the confidence is no longer there, or when the body finally gives up, or both.

With Jahidi we are still short of CBs unfortunately, since with WT in the sick bay there is still only Ollie backing up, and to be honest he is far from ready for the first team yet.

As far as age goes, CBs, like goal keepers, mature late. Early thirties is fine. They will have learnt most of the tricks by then.

hopefully not playing football. he was an awful cheating rat boy

not a fan then? he must be around somewhere, hes only 32/33?

Last I heard he was on trial at Ipswich and then West Ham (last summer)

just looked on Wiki and - He joined Ipswich on 14 August 2008 on a one-year contract with an option to extend it for a further year.

Not seen him released so guess he's a non-starter.

Seeing as Jaidi doesn't have a club at the mo and no wages he'd be a bit silly to not Join Saints who will probably pay him more than any other club that would be interested in him.

Lets hope we can get an announcement today

The one big problem is that now everyone knows a deal is likely soon so will push other clubs into action.

We may not get him and end up like Stern John and missing a good signing.

We better not miss out on Jaidi. If he stayed fit, he'd be a force for us. If Lancashire is in the first team this season we're going to be struggling. Ideally need 2 new centre backs as Perry is small and ancient and Thomas is constantly injured, with Lancashire not good enough yet. Need at least 2 signings by Sat, the other position needed is either wide midfield (right side) and striker (if Saga or Rasiak go).

... and "wised up" every players Agent in the process ...

The fact the we have approached an agent for one of his players would suggest to that agent that we need players – I don’t think AP saying we are desperate will have any impact.

Lets face it, David Blunkett could see we need defenders!

From our experiences so far the new regime doesn't deal in rumours and leaks. The press leaks about Jaidi must have come from his agent, because he wants the football world to know of Saints interest so that he can hurry that CCC club along who has been thinking about an offer for a while.

This smells of Stern John, I'm afraid.

Yep especially as Charlton were speaking to him last week....his agent seems to be another leach that infests the waters of football world...I detest them!

So it comes down to which club can afford to pay most. Or will pay most.

We can, but is our boss tighter with money or the best bargain hunter?.

I wonder.

I'm not writing him off but asking him to start 46 games is way too much. If Jaidi has a bit of the Flintoff about his knees, Perry may well be starting some games but not too many so as to keep him fresh.

Scary thought - and how many of them have really been any good? Apart from Perry who has been useful in the back four, probably only Lucketti who helped save us from relegation (at least for 12 months) and perhaps Dailly.

Alan Bennett came good in the end although his first game was more like Gordon Bennett

SSN Ticker just said he's coming back from injury tonight against Bury Town.

I think the Bolton spell was when I had him in my Fantasy team (which is why I remember the goals!). Most from set pieces if I remember, useful return.

Would be great to become a threat from corners once again. For too many years, we might as well have conceded a goal-kick than won a corner.

Well we will if we can get someone to get the ball passed the first defender!

That's no longer a problem. Every corner against QPR sailed over not just the last forward but the last spectator. It was like watching satellites in near-Earth orbit.

Do you mean weak mental appliction, or the bloke is a thicko? A thicko sicko perhaps, or would that be going too far? For goodness sake FF, tell it like it really is.

except last season we were a real threat. I think Perry, JPS and Pearce all scored from corners.

Hmmm@Wikipedia

'Jaidi joined Southampton on August 4th 2009. He signed on a free transfer and agreed a 1 year deal with the option of a 2nd year and he will be given the number 6 shirt.'

the number 6 shirt IS available...

A bit OTT IMO, he has some very good aspects to his game, learned over a long and good carreer, so surely merits his place in a squad which will have regular injuries throughout the season !!
