DT Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Excellent signing. Frankly, in this league, we need big blokes. Simple as that. An end to tippy-tappy!
saint_bert Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Really is the sort of player we have needed since we got relegated from the prem
This Charming Man Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 I'd be very happy with that signing. Exactly the kind of CB we will need in this league.
SaintDonkey Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 An excellent signing if it all comes through. I'm slightly concerned by a lack of pace, but if we can get Gillett tracking back and buzzing around we should have a pretty tight defense. Already feeling a lot more optimistic about Millwall!
Clifford Nelson Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Why are we talking to Michael Bolton? Cortese misheard AP when he asked for someone who was " good in the 'air".
NickG Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Posted 4 August, 2009 Jahidi and Thomas - can't imagine many CFs looking forward to facing them

I'm slightly concerned by a lack of pace, but if we can get Gillett tracking back and buzzing around we should have a pretty tight defense. Already feeling a lot more optimistic about Millwall! AP needs to make his mind up about what kind of midfielder Gillet is. I don't think he is an offensive mf, as he doesn't create enough danger, but he's got the energy of a young Oh! Terry Hurlock, breaks up the opposition's play, but he can also play a bit. Our best outfield player last season.
Clifford Nelson Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Jahidi and Thomas - can't imagine many CFs looking forward to facing them I agree, but I suspect it will be mainly Jahidi and Perry. WT's injuries is keeping him permanently out. Somewhat psychological I suspect. In any case it will be a welcome addition.

Our best outfield player last season. That's where I see him. Running around in front of our back four breaking up the opposition play and then distributing the ball to the attacking midfeilders. Wish he were a little taller but I reckon he can compensate for the lack of height with his mobility.
shurlock Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Really is the sort of player we have needed since we got relegated from the prem Telling me - the number of players we've tried at CB in just the last two seasons-viafara, perry, lucketti, davies, makin, bennett, dailly, lancashire, pearce, saejis, cork, thomas, killer, powell, liptak (and there's probably more)- has been a joke.

Good point but should read - since 2002 when Killer got injured HOW many years worth of pre-seasons have we begged for CB's to be signed? and we got Powell & Thomas
NickG Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Posted 4 August, 2009 Killer is responsible for the downfall, on the pitch of this club
Katalinic Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 I'm feeling more optimistic about Saints if we sign this guy. Yes me too, not just because I think he is a good signing but because I think he is a Championship player and it would be a signal of intent - imo Saints are one of only a few clubs that Championship players would drop down a division to play for and these are the type of siginings we should be going after.
NickG Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Posted 4 August, 2009 not his fault! Meant the lack of replacement eversince, KL was poor when Killer got injured and rest is history.

KD could have gone to premiership Harding and Jahidi to CCC.
SaintDonkey Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Of course the problem with a story like this is that it leaves me spending all day looking at the OS and the Echo every five minutes looking for the news that he's signed...

Scary thought - and how many of them have really been any good? Apart from Perry who has been useful in the back four, probably only Lucketti who helped save us from relegation (at least for 12 months) and perhaps Dailly.
saintstr1 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Of course the problem with a story like this is that it leaves me spending all day looking at the OS and the Echo every five minutes looking for the news that he's signed... Seconded
NickG Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Posted 4 August, 2009 Of course the problem with a story like this is that it leaves me spending all day looking at the OS and the Echo every five minutes looking for the news that he's signed... sorry, I made it up! (did say he was talking to, not signed yet! - was with club yesterday, not heard anything today)
NickG Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Posted 4 August, 2009 They are trying to get it all agreed today to start training tomorrow but its with agent.
skintsaint Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 but its with agent. ****ing agents....hate them
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 They are trying to get it all agreed today to start training tomorrow but its with agent. Sounds good/promising. Thanks for keeping us updated NickG Fingers crossed.
NickG Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Posted 4 August, 2009 ****ing agents....hate them way of the world, love some of the old stories about managers telling players where to go when they plucked up courage to ask for more money
krissyboy31 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 way of the world, love some of the old stories about managers telling players where to go when they plucked up courage to ask for more money Russell Osman said the day Bobby Robson died, that players at Ipswich would go into his office asking for a pay rise and come out with a worse deal than they went in with.
red&white56 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 The "good in the air" bit will be pretty vital in this league. Seeing as we're cr*p in the air - this could be what we need to tighten up our defence!
Asaint4ever Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 will be a great sighning! plus if thomas gets fit them 2 at the back will be solid!! TANKS
Saint_clark Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 I'd rather see Jaidi and Perry. You can't have too players throwing themselves at the ball, with no-one backing them up.
the saint in winchester Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Echo reporting he had medical yesterday Was on Play Radio this morning 8:30am bulletin. Admittedly, they probably took it off the Echo report. Hope this comes to pass. He's what we need.
thorpie the sinner Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 My only slight worry is if the Agent is holding out for money now our situation has changed slightly!!
opthomps Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 if these signings come off, likes of harding, jaidi, murty, trundle, etc they are very good for us. We wouldnt have had a hope of getting any of them last year in a higer division - it proves we are moving in the right direction at last.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Jaidi and Trundle would both be absolutely excellent signings, here's hoping we can get them in. Jaidi is looking likely, but as I understand Trundle is still just a rumour?

Plus, quite strange than Murty still hasnt signed (to my knowledge)
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 will be a great sighning! plus if thomas gets fit them 2 at the back will be solid!! TANKS Don't think we will be seeing much of Thomas this season. Mentally weak and a hypochondriac to boot was a verdict of someone close to the players a year or two back. When the tough get going Thomes goes missing.
saint1977 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Jaidi could be a crowd favourite I reckon. We haven't had that sort of centre-half since Svensson was in his prime - powerful, physical and a danger in the opponents half as well, particularly from set-pieces. Hajto had early promise but was disappointing in the end.
saint1977 Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Don't think we will be seeing much of Thomas this season. Mentally weak and a hypochondriac to boot was a verdict of someone close to the players a year or two back. When the tough get going Thomes goes missing. We'll need him to partner Jaidi as Perry is 36-odd and Lancashire is not going make it as a pro - Pardew is being polite and saying he's not ready. Pardew is going to have to motivate Thomas to get through training sessions with a bit of pain. That said, Thomas has returned from a nasty injury last season.
Hopkins Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Heard a rumour he may not have passed the medical. Problems with his knee.

Jaidi is looking likely, but as I understand Trundle is still just a rumour? Trundle would not be a good signing for us. He is utter garbage. He had a few tricks at Swansea and got way over hyped because of Soccer AM. The fact he had a stinker at Leeds last season and has done nowt at Bristol either proves this.

Pardew is going to have to motivate Thomas to get through training sessions with a bit of pain. That said, Thomas has returned from a nasty injury last season. I'm not sure why people keep writing Perry off, just because he's 36. He was one of our main players last year and he's very fit. As someone said above, playing Perry (the calm/composed centre half, who can play it out) alongside Jhadi (the tough tackling, big beast of a centre back) will be the makings of a rock solid defense at L1 level IMO.
SuperSAINT Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Perry was SUPERB against Hearts. He read everything.
Gordon Mockles Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Don't think we will be seeing much of Thomas this season. Mentally weak and a hypochondriac to boot was a verdict of someone close to the players a year or two back. When the tough get going Thomes goes missing. As someone said, the new Darren Powell! The phsyio also love to give some of the players extended lay offs. Jokers!
dubai_phil Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Heard a rumour he may not have passed the medical. Problems with his knee. Thought we were talking about Jaidi, not Delgado Oh Back to the drawing board then
northam soul Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Press conference at 2.00pm anybody Oopps Sorry
Wildgoose Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Says on this link that he has passed the medical http://www.clubcall.com/southampton/jaidi-nears-saints-deal-927998.html Don't know how accurate it is though
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 4 August, 2009 Posted 4 August, 2009 Heard a rumour he may not have passed the medical. Problems with his knee. Would be just our luck. Rumour from a reliable source?
