Words cannot describe the IMMENSE irritation I feel when I see thread titles and OPs like this. There is some argument for publicising peoples ages so we can cut some slack to those too young to know better.

We were on the brink of oblivion, then saved with very little time to prepare. What on earth do people expect at this moment in time!!

I'm with this Monkadoo fella. Why do our collective hopes always end up dashed? Why do our dreams always end up in the gutter with the rest of the sh*t? Sometimes after a few too many beers and tamazepam I end up with sick down my trousers and large periods of blackness but I still find this more reassuring than the constant hurt that being a Saints fan brings.

Why?

Why does it have to be like this? I feel lost. Lost in this cruel, cruel world. There are days, rare days, when I wake up and move to the dry side of the bedsit, free from the mould and stench of week old semen, and I sit and look out the window. In those rare moments I feel alive. Alive and happy. And then I remember the minus 10 points. And then I remember that we haven't signed any quality internationals. Where is this money? where are the signings? When I remember this I open the window and I shout. I shout at the people and one time I threw my own sh*t out into the street. Where is the f*cking money Markus? Where is it you freaking tight fisted c*nt?

This season will be hell. It will be dark and it will be hell. I don't see anything good happening. Maybe, one game, when we're losing 4 or 5 nil, the whistle will be blown early so at least the suffering won't be as long. That's about as good as we can hope for.

Then I suppose there would be nothing much to say

It's a psychological conditioning of a large group of fans to meet any piece of news or event with catastrophic expectations. That's what years of dashed hopes do to people. If we're not one of those we just have to be patient and respond with a pat on the back and a "there there".

Getting things done right the first time, is much more important than getting things done quickly. Although this may be difficult for some of our younger supporters, I think some of the older ones appreciate that we need to do things this way. We need to stop the rot! We need to stabilize and build a base to work from. For me, this year, survival is THE most important thing. We have a very limited squad of players and injuries and suspensions could really impact any aspirations. I want a secure L1 performance. I want stability. I want to look forward to next season.

IF, and that's a big IF, we get anywhere near the playoffs this season, that will probably be as good as it can get. My worry would be winning those play offs and getting promoted, because this year, we a re barely ready for L1, we'd be nowhere near the step up to CCC in one year.

To finish on a positive, maybe, just maybe, Rasiak will end up top scorer by a mile in this league. Our wingers 'are' good enough for this league and want to prove something. Our CM's get the passing going and tackles in and dominate the game. Our CB's stay fit and are commanding, oh, and we have the best keeper in the league. Maybe! Just maybe...

Quote "The Saints boss also revealed that he is also hopeful that trialist Graeme Murty may not be far away from joining the club on a full time basis."

What are we playing at - Murty is not the catch of the season yet there's promise he might join the team.

I am convinced we will not bring any one in who will influence the team- the season starts next weekend!

Hang yourself quietly please.

Blame Pinnacle

While I accept the Pinnacle delay cost us a few weeks preparation, I can't agree that this can be leaned on as an excuse ALL season.

- Pre season training didn't started till June 22nd and Wotte spent time preparing our current stock.

- Takeover was then completed 8th July (2 weeks "lost")

- ML and team then waited 10 days to appoint AP (???) (3.5 weeks "lost")

- AP has been here since 17th July ample time (imo) to have identified and purchased two or three players without "panic buying" (is Harding guaranteed to be sh*t because he signed him after 2 days?)

- MK Dons appointed Paul Ince a week before we appointed AP, he has managed to sign 8 players!! MK Dons are now one of the favorites to go up (even our fans are tipping them on the 'who will win L1' thread)

Pinnacle cost us a few weeks preparation - yes. We therefore needed to act fast to make up for the lost time, this hasn't been done and thats why we may now struggle.

This thread is called 'The money is not there.. ' I have scanned all posts but can see why its named that? Have I missed something? Has AP said something about avalible funds?

I think that the op expected ap to have spent a small fortune in the transfer market already despite having only been here 5 minutes. The fact that he hasn't must mean that there is no money!!

Err, what about the Ambitious Realists? Thats the party I fall into, as I suspect many others do. There's really no need to be derogatory when trying to argue a point. The big problem for many on here is they cannot debate properly without jumping onto their keyboards in some fit of rage and have a juvenile slanging match. Keep cool - it's only a fans forum. Top down planning is in progress at SMS. First a new owner; then a new executive team; then a new team manager; then a management support team; next, improve the team. Classic business 'top down' restructure.

We are still within the first month of ML taking over. He has to put right the wrongs of the past, create a new today, and then start on a long term process of building success.

Just because we have not signed every player agents have phoned us about does not mean we have no money. May be the ones offered have not been good enough! AP working top down too here. He has taken a week or two to find out what he has to work with, make some fundamental changes to the fitness levels, systems, etc., resolve some outstanding contract issues with current players, establish exactly what he has available to work with and then start to integrate a few new faces slowly and as required.

This is a 'long haul' job and if they take it in steps we will be all right, if we rush it we might just end up no better off than we used to be under GB with lots of money spent but in the wrong places.

Despite our new owner, our wonderful facilities and great fans (see some above posts and ask if this is the case?) playing catchup in League 1 is not going to be the first choice of many talented players, they will have better options. AP really has to make progress with what he has plus a couple of new older heads to then start to change the perspective of better quality players so that they can see coming here really is a good career move.

If you think this can all be done in three weeks then you need to wake up, forget the coffee (and other drugs), and take a long hard look at the reality! Otherwise I suggest you visit your GP and get some medication because one or two around here are showing clear signs of clinical depression and truly need help.

Possibly the most sensible, rational, intelligent, head-screwed-on-properly post of recent weeks and most certainly the most reasonable explanation of the current situation. Oh for a few more Pandas and fewer drama queens. Nobody minds a good debate - quite the opposite! - but some of the ill-informed hysteria on here at the moment is mind-boggling. We have gone from almost having no club to having a club with a successful owner and a brighter future. Incredible that anybody can find something to complain about in that respect.

Can't argue with that. I think people quickly forget that Saints could be dead. Personally I'd rather AP took a bit more time to make sure he got the right players in. Some people on here would rather see the headline 'Saints spend £5million on total flop' just so that they can say oh yes that's proof we have lots of money! If there are decent frees out there, which there are, then they will take priority. Once all the decent freebies are gone then the next stage is to look at contracted players. There's no point in spending lots of cash when there are dozens of freebies up for grabs.

The weight of expectation around our team from our fans this season is seriously gonna cause a lot of negativity on here. Too many people think that just because we're owned by a billionaire that we have some divine right to be spunking millions on players ala Abramovich just to secure success. We've got the whole of August to sign the right players, which still leaves more than enough time to get a squad with some kind of hope of making the playoffs. Wait until the end of the season before you all start slitting your wrists, just be ****ing happy that we 1. Have a football club and 2. are completely debt free.

What rubbish! QPR have rich owners but they have spent very little, as a result they have done nothing and are now starting the season with there 3rd manager in 14 months - expectation is high, this has not yet been matched by the (I want to own a boutique) club owners.

They wont go up this season unless they spend a lot of money soon - much like us!

We got several multi million pound deals, did up the stadium and boxes, invested in the structure of the club instead of going out and spending £10m on 2nd rate players.

We were bottom when taken over, then finished 11 last season, now were looking at the playoffs.

Chucking a load of money wont work, getting things right behind the scenes then investing in the team will.

I don't think they've invested wisely at all. They've made several poor managerial appointments and I haven't seen any evidence that their owners are particularly concerned how the club does. They appear to have bought a club in trendy West London for no other reason that it's a nice place to meet on a Saturday afternoon when there isn't a grand prix on. Apart from an initial burst of spending, they've basically run it as a going concern and they've absolutely fleeced the QPR fans, most of whom have stumpwed up £525 or £599 (the early-bird prices) for their season tickets to watch middle-of-the-table second tier football with a manager who has proven less than impressive at a team that has spent much more money than QPR.

I really cannot see them challenging with the two north-east teams and West Brom the most likely to challenge for automatic promotion. Cardiff and Preston will be strong again and I can see Forest and Derby being much better than last year.

A good summarry of the QPR situation IMO but I wouldn't want to follow that route !

If we are more like Reading (when Madjeski first took over) that would be a far better example for us !

A solid management team (Pardew, then Coppel) sensible buying (Doyle, Hunt etc..) great football, runaway CCC champions and into the PL, that'll do for me except I don't fancy the relegation that followed 2 years later !!

I genuinely think this is one of the biggest problems of some of the negativity of the fans on here. For far too long Southampton FC has been under a cloud, near-successive relegations and poor performances have done nothing to raise a Saints fan's spirit. We've become a bunch of complainers, of bitter, ripped off fans who have paid through the nose to watch tripe. And I applaud those who have. Without them the club would've been gone long ago.

Now however we have a new dawn. It's almost the end of Southampton FC as we knew it, and in its place we have a bright outlook, a well run club with a good young manager and financially stable, but with the same Saints spirit, will to be better, and to top it off we still have Premiership facilities and a decent academy.

The team will come. Sure, it's not perfect, and there is still some question over the more saleable assets of the team, but now is the time to be positive. Support from the fans is key, not because I or anyone else says so, but because we should support the inanimate object in our lives that we love the most. (Except those of you with mansions and sports cars etc!) How relieved were we to find out we'd found a buyer, someone to save the club and prevent us from spending our Saturday's in B&Q because of a lack of excuse to give the missus/partner.

I understand the gloom, but patience is the key. Rome wasn't built in the day, the wars weren't won in a week and even Matt Le Tissier took 16 years to hone his craft. Our time will come, unity is the key.

UTS!

The liebherr family are far from idiots .... agreed.

And they will want a return for the purchase.

However, they could get a nice return by just giving us an average league 1 wage budget, and creaming money off from a well supported clubs income from pay on the day gates and season ticket sales.

Spending £££ on trasfers is a gamble in football. We've established the liebherr family are not idiots ... so forget the big bucks and hope for some crafty frees and loans.

Even if this were true (which I very much doubt), it doesn't make sense. ML is worth over 2 billion, is in his sixties, and could make more money from finding loose coins behind his sofas than from Saints. The only logical reason for owning Saints is not to make money, but to get the satisfaction of making his club a success.

Took about 30 mins from what I saw of the Colosseum when I last visited Italy. It is falling to bits, and not fit to host a football match imho.

:) You failed to factor in that the master plan revolves around creaming off the income from League 1 against a very low wage bill. How long that's going to take to overcome the capital is unsure, but I just hope one of the grand children buy into it. Could be completely bluggered by promotion?

It's just totally laughable when you hear comments that Saints are a good investment. Does anyone seriously believe that any financial advisor would recommend investing in Saints, it does not come close to Premium bonds. The team will not go anywhere without investment, so I am sure we will get something soon to help us on our way. Liebherrs previous approch in business has been structured and measured, something I expect to be repeated with Saints. I can't see him going out and trying to buy promotion in one hit, but more in it for the long term rather than the short.

What we are seeing with Pardew at Saints, looks similar to Pardew and Reading previously, as the model to be followed. Even with what looked like frugal and canny investment by Madejski over the years, this still left him out of pocket. Madejski realised he never had enough funds to maintain the club at Premier level and tried to find another buyer. Something he could not do even with the club at it's highest in the Premier. And that is without trying to make a profit on the exercise!
