Team v QPR?

Do you mean an average CCC team? QPR cant be considered 'very good' surely.

QPR were mid table last year and have added only two players (sold 7) this summer

In other recent friendlies they got stuffed by some Croatia league team and drew 2-2 with Oxford Utd!!

6th favorite for CCC

Oh, for heavens sake. Not only are we a League 1 side but one that has barely got off the ground yet. I'm really not sure why people expect miracles to happen, we should count our blessings that we are still in existence, have an excellent owner and a very good manager. If someone had offered me that a month ago I'd have bitten their hand off. It's totally pointless as we should know only too well buying players just for the sake of it. Give me 2/3 good signings over half a dozen average/mediocre players anyday and I'm confident that is what we will get.

+2 :-)

With a few additions, I think this team has some potential. Yes, we lost, but it was good to see some intelligent interplay between Lallana, Schneiderlin and Mills; Harding looked like he's improving; and Murty is a must-buy for the sheer authority and calm he brings to the right hand side.

The old weaknesses of last season persist - the team just looked lightweight and very young compared to QPR - which became even more glaringly obvious when the substitutes started rolling on. We didn't create as many chances as our possession suggests we should have had. And we have a habit of panicking under pressure. For some reason, we're also now over-hitting every single dead ball, and there's little evidence of much training-ground thinking going into corner-taking or free kicks in dangerous positions.

But QPR are now a division above us, are not a bad side, have had a settled pre-season - and we simply won't face this kind of opposition in League 1.

The CB problem obviously needs sorting out. They seemed to just stroll through us for the first goal, we panicked for the second, and we can thank 'Am I bothered?' Greg for the third.

But the team was certainly more organised, the flanks looked much more solid (James had a good game and a terrific run in the first half), and there seem to be a few more leaders on the pitch.

Assuming no one else leaves, this team is probably three signings away from being consistently competitive from the off.

I think they were 3rd favourites last year on the basis of seemingly having pots of money to spend. Did not really do them a lot of good did it !?

My 'wow' was more a surprise that they were 6th favourites - probably some weak journo doing same as last year and saying they have loads of £'s they will surely invest heavily.

I would tip West Brom, Swansea, Sheff Utd, Reading, Preston, Nottm Forest, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Leicester, Ipswich, Derby, Coventry and Cardiff to finish above QPR this year (unless they do start to spend)

They have added 2 players and lost 7 since last seasons mid table - so would be surprised if they did reach the play-offs. Time will tell and maybe Magilton will deliver.....?

yes this is very promising times to look to the future.

just ignore the whinging drama queens

Just back from the game.....lots of work to be done. Very weak at the back not much showing up front.

But totally agree things aren't going to improve over night it is going to be a long road back.

We all need to be patient.

Sounds promising. Clearly it's going to take time to build a good team though......

I didnt hear the interview myself (dont get the solent here in Glasgow) someone else posted about it on another thread. also said they saw it in the pink?

Yep I agree it will take time - i dont want 7 new players tomorrow and realise it will take time, 2 or 3 new faces before Millwall would be a good boost however

Pardew has said we need CB and its his priority to get it sorted - unless (not aimed at you) you don't rate him at all suggest people stop moaning and await the new team.

dont moan about the moaners, coz if u moan then the moaners will moan more, causing the guys who moan about the moaners 2 moan, which will increase the moaners moaning, leaving moaners and non moaners moaning -

I hope the team for Millwall is

Kelvin

Murty-MysteryNewSigning-Perry-Harding

Lallana-Gillet-Morgan-Fish

Rasiak-MysteryNewSigning

Although it could be Thomson on the right with Lallana pushed up behind MysteryNewSigning up front with Rasiak offski.

Bench: Bart, James, Patterson + take your pick (Thomas if fit).

FFS you depressing prat! Of course Leibherr and Pardew have a plan. AP knows we need new players and said we will bring in new players. The backroom staff have been appointed so the structure is now in place. Lets wait and see what happens between now and next sat and then maybe get the razorblades out.

Just being realistic unlike a lot of the 'everything will be ok' brigade.

I have no doubt they do have a plan but before that plan has time to work we could find ourselves cut adrift.

It's just a shame that a lot of people on here are still burying their head in the sand.....unless pardew pulls a fookin miracle out of the bag this week then be prepared for another relegation.

We cannot afford to fall behind so early in the season or it will require a miracle just to get out of the bottom 3.

Today should be close to a starting lineup as you are going to get for the team against millwall and by the sounds of it,it's not going to be good enough.

I really, really do hope that ML and pardew have a plan.

They do...........it's a five year one!!!!

Hmm, we need to improve this side. as has been said Norwich have just beaten Wigan. Bryan Gunn has spent most of the summer preparing for the new season and it shows.

Don't worry Norwich have bought all there players already and everyone knows that if you buy before the last day in Aug you're panic buying.

They will all be rubbish players and they will need to be replaced in Jan.

from report on a qpr site;

Southampton, like last season at Loftus Road, never laid down and played some nice football of their own under new boss Alan Pardew. Joseph Mills in particular was in the mood after firing a venomous drive over the bar with his less accomplished right boot.

He was among the action once again moments later when James` cross from the right flank saw Mills beat the R`s defence in the air but the ball drifted wide of the Marshall`s left hand upright

The busy work of Schneiderlin and Wotton in the middle made the R`s work hard with Lallana and Mills foraging away on either flank in search of an equaliser.

QPR were now struggling to get in behind the Saints with Dan Harding in particular cutting an impressive figure at left-back, leaving Wayne Routledge with very little to attack. The former Tottenham winger found the going tough against the former Ipswich and Brighton man.

Southampton continued to press Rangers with the newly introduced Simon Gillett proving a handful for the R`s, more specifically with his set-piece prowess. His deliveries called Andy Marshall to be brave and collect on a couple of occasions, with everything else mopped up by a solid back-line

I just got back from the match. I've read this thread. I'd like to be positive but sorry I can't. We do need a centre back. We do need more presence up front but what bothered me most is that we created nothing. On that performance I believe we'll struggle.

I think things could be a lot worse with a two or three new players we may develop into a reasonable team.

Being in Administration for such a long time has not helped and I was hoping for the new owners to have had their managerial/coaching set up and available after the buyout. However the team announced yesterday looks very good

But that realistically was too much to ask but with large crowds at St Mary's I feel we will be OK

Back from the game - Kelvin had very little to do to be honest. We probably shaded the possession and got into the better positions, though we didn't really test their keeper. Apart from a lovely ball by James in the 1st half which Mills should should have kept down with his header, we were pretty awful in our crossing.

Thought Mills, Schneiderlin, Murty and Harding all had good games and I was much happier with Lallana's willingness to use the width of the pitch and stay on the right.

Like some of the otherd, I would say we are three players short - a CB, a central midfielder and a forward- basically the spine of the team, starting with i) a CB (positionally, Lancashire is dogs**t and intent on ballwatching), then ii) a targetman and iii) a bit more steel in the middle (but there's no reason why Gillett and Schneiderlin can't do a job, though both are prone to injuries). Bring in some experience in these positions and I'm cautiously optimistic.

Been back for a bit and was not sure if worth posting or not as not really much to say.

QPR are a decent team, they look better then when i saw them last year. They have better players it is as simple as that.

We looked average at best and as with the other games i have seen pre-season we lack the defensive quality which has plagued us for the last couple of years. We did not really create all to much which again highlight we need some creative players.

As i said a week or so ago the team as it is right now will struggle in L1, especially with the -10. You could have god managing the team and would make no difference.

What we need is players and a fair few of them. At least 1 CB and a left back. That is bare minimum. Then a right winger and cental midfielder who can actually pass.

In my view the game on saturday will be very tough with the team we have. We are the new boys in the league with the big stadium and everyone will be up for their games against us. We have to match that and im sure Pardew will try and install that determination.

This season is about surviving and building for next season. We lack the players and depth to mount any sort of promotion challenge.

If we get in some players with the quality needed then who knows. But to expect anything other then survival with this squad is insane.

careful, that sort of talk will have you labelled as a happy clappy. Can I ask if Mills was any threat at all on the left?

A good side:

Davis

James ???? Perry Harding

???? Gillett Morgan Mills

Lallana

Rasiak

Subs: Bart and.............

That's 8 decent players just to have a decent team to play Millwall.

Paterson, Gobern, Saga, Thomas etc

Stop being such a drama queen, we're in now way near as bad a position as some people on here are trying to make out.

Busy rather than dangerous - should have done better with a free header, played a coupled of nice balls through to saga (caught offside). But his willingness to get into forward positions (as well as track back) was encouraging. Maybe we lack of a bit of pace on the left but think with mills, it looks alot more balanced.
