saint lard Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Owing to Administration that was not possible unfortunately That indeed was the case, but that dose'nt detract from the fact that it needed strengthening.

saint_stevo Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Oh he is............he is slow, his tackles are wreckless, his positional play is poor, he is not commanding in the air.... He has a long long way to go, even for League 1. Its a shame but thats how it is unfortunately. Slow is an understatement. Painfully slow doesnt really tell it how it is. Like a 90yr old man who has already run 10 miles. So how come he is a professional footballer? Good question

I think you are quite right, we needed this result to show that the depth is not there for us and we are bythe looks of things getting a lesson in football. Not a bad thing in my book. Lets hope that there is real activity at SMS next week because I think we need it.

Those warm up games result may tell you nothing I hope. You are right they mean very little but we do need a few decent additions or we will be reall struggling. We need to start the season well with our points deficit or we could get adrift of the rest quite quickly. Come on AP. captainchris Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Can't really understand why we changed the team from the last 20 mins against Hearts......Did Rasiak figure at all? I know Thomas was injured but we could have slotted Rasiak in for John and decided between Goburn and Mills on the left with Wotton on gardening leave - permanantly! Who signed and gave that bloke a three year contract or was it four years? Who ever it was should be certified!
saintant Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Alan Pardew has just a week to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse and I don't envy him his task. I hope he has earmarked at least four players who will be brought in immediately because if not we could be heading for another season of struggle. The fact that we start 10 points behind means that it is imperative we hit the gound running and get off to a strong start. If not we will be falling further behind the rest and that heaps more pressure on the team to produce results. To those who believe Pardew does not need to be in a hurry I would have agreed had we not been hit with the ten point penalty. That is a lot to make up especially if you do not start well. The current squad would struggle to keep its head above water even without the minus ten. Signings this week please Alan.
eelpie Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Well, we did lose to QPR early last season by three goals. Not that that helps much. So come on Mr Liebherr. Sign the next Terry, and Lita would help too.

sambosa75 Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Just back from the game. Typical Saints really. Played some neat short passing on occasion without creating anything worth speaking of and conceding 3 goals along the way. First goal was a soft header from a corner, 2nd one was due to too much dithering on the ball in our own area but the 3rd was cracker, although Lancashire might have done better to stand up to the runner instead of backing off. Left side looks promising. Patterson looks like he needs to do a lot of improving before he's capable of doing a job as a dis-interested Rasiak caused more problems for QPR in 25 mins than Patterson did otherwise. We seem full of running though, but are definitely crying out for some fresh blood, ideally with some experience.
lordswoodsaints Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 It's just a shame that a lot of people on here are still burying their head in the sand.....unless pardew pulls a fookin miracle out of the bag this week then be prepared for another relegation. We cannot afford to fall behind so early in the season or it will require a miracle just to get out of the bottom 3. Today should be close to a starting lineup as you are going to get for the team against millwall and by the sounds of it,it's not going to be good enough. I really, really do hope that ML and pardew have a plan.

NickG Posted 1 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 1 August, 2009 We need to strengthen the squad big time, asap. yes but 2-0 down away to one of CCC favorites doesn't prove that any more than beating the third team from spl meant we were fine. do you not think we need to strengthen then that's what I said! chrisobee Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 Oh, for heavens sake. Not only are we a League 1 side but one that has barely got off the ground yet. I'm really not sure why people expect miracles to happen, we should count our blessings that we are still in existence, have an excellent owner and a very good manager. If someone had offered me that a month ago I'd have bitten their hand off. It's totally pointless as we should know only too well buying players just for the sake of it. Give me 2/3 good signings over half a dozen average/mediocre players anyday and I'm confident that is what we will get.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 August, 2009 Share Posted 1 August, 2009 We have lost away to a VG CCC side Do you mean an average CCC team? QPR cant be considered 'very good' surely. QPR were mid table last year and have added only two players (sold 7) this summer In other recent friendlies they got stuffed by some Croatia league team and drew 2-2 with Oxford Utd!!
