You know what all those other teams have in common?

They've all had a manager in place for more than a fortnight.

I'm concerned we haven't bought anyone - but not so concerned that I feel the need to start yet another thread on the subject.

Can't the mods just make one of the "we haven't bought anyone let's all panic" threads a sticky and lock the others?

agree

Yes wanting the best for our team and hoping that we can overturn our -10 must be considered 'rushing in'

Two types of fan on here -

the happy clappy "we have our club back" & "I will be happy to stay up this season"

and then the ambitious amongst us that realise (like AP does) that a few signings and we could be promoted this season.

missed the third type - with an ounce of sense and know manager is not going to overhaul his team in first week and knows he has to get it right. Have confidence that AP is going to sort it out and are not squeeling with panic.

teams relegated to league 1 = 3

teams relgated and in adminstration =1

teams relegated, in adminstration and then ****ed around for 5 weeks by a bunch of tyre kickers = us

Charlton have signed just three players, one of which was only today. We've signed Harding and at a stretch you could say Davis. Christ stop being such a drama queen. Quality players at the right price and on the right wages are hard to get no matter who you are and what level.

sums it up.

I dont think we have been taken for mugs but, with a ten point deduction and with the present squad this season could be over before its begun, except for a relegation scrap. I thought that those days were behind us,but things ( on the playing front ) appear to remain the same.

Having a bad day? Have a few beers and everything will be fine tomorrow.

Norwich signed 9

Brentford signed 6

Brighton signed 7

Exeter 6

MK Dons 7

Oldham 7

I could go on....

We have been down the route of just making lots of speculative signings before, it didn't work.

It's not about numbers, it's about quality. I would rather they took their time and identified the right players rather than just signed up 7 or 8 without having a proper look at them and hoped some of them came off.

With -10 and the current squad I'd be happy if we just stayed up this year and pushed on the following season. Maybe that's the plan.

IMO we do need some fresh faces around the 1st team before Saturday 8th or the Lions could turn us over.

To push for play offs I think we need a squad that is much better than anyone elses in the div but I can't see us getting that squad.

Just my opinion.

I ask on another thread, what are your ambitions for the coming season?

I got the 'happy clappy' responding with crap like "If we can stay up this year then all things considered this will be good" and "If we survive by one point I will be happy"

If that makes you happy then in my opinion you're a ball bag and should keep there "its just a game" to themselves!

I really hope we will be around play offs by end of season. Lack of signings in last few days have not altered my opinion one iota.

Leeds manager stating that its not unusual not to have much transfer movement at the moment;

"It's pretty much the norm as far as transfers are concerned," Grayson revealed. "We're still talking to players because I would like to try and bring in two or three more before the start of the season or, at the very latest, before the end of the transfer window.

Which is what Pardew said within days of being here.

I'll post again what i said yesterday as it's very apt. for this thread...

We had no indication or leaks prior to harding signing...and that was just announced within hours one morning.

People seem to be panicking that we actually do not have the funds - but i cannot see that being true. Why do you spend almost £15mill on a club to let it linger in league 1? You don't - he will want to get us back up and he will not achieve that without investment - Trust me, ML is not an idiot.

Also...i don't believe Pardew would have joined us if he was only allowed to sign free's on low pay contracts. The money is there...it's just a case of finding the right players in a professional manner.

club said should be futher additions in next few days.

perhaps our new owners only had the option of using money of paying off debts which in the long term will benefit us more. Maybe we should save big spending for when it is really necessary. Just because he is a billionaire doesn't mean the majority of it will go into transfers

all true..

Interesting snippet on south today tonight....

they were previewing an interview with AP for next week...and he said ''If im honest, if the board look at this club in 4-5 years and see we're not in the premiership - i think they're going to wonder why''

doesn't sound like were not going to spend to me. When you have ambition to be in the premiership and a billionaire owner, surely there's only one way we can go?

just being happy to survive this season is so tragically saints mentality..

we hae been so used to mediocracy for so long that is pleases the fans..

You have convinced me that we are going to do well this season

Owner / Manager Very Good

Assistant Manager really good knows the Lower Leagues well and contacts with the Premiership

Scout/Goal Keeroing Coach really good knows the Lower Leagues well

I agree. We want to be out of League 1 within two years. We need to get it right first time.

Patience and support is what the club needs right now from us.

Stop talking about the 'product'. Surely you watch Saints because you're a fan, not because you'll be thrilled by scintillating football.

On the day when a true gent and legend of the game passes away we get a troll of a thread like this. Some of the comments here are unbelievable but if I am honest not that surprising.

I am happy to let the board and Alan Pardew makes the signings they want and require and when they feel the time is right to do so. There are so many factors going on behind the scenes that to simplify it with some of your comments is just plain ignorance. I guess my status as a happy clappy is confirmed. I have never wanted anything other than success and a winning Saints team. I guess the fact I am patient is my undoing and is lost on the majority on here.

Hit the ground running....

Try and overturn our -10 asap....

add some confidence to us battered fans....

give us the best chance to gain promotion....

I preferred your former comedy persona OBS - this scandalous bid to usurp Alpine Saints position as Saintsweb's resident Cassandra will lead to no good I tells ya .

What I am saying is, the last 24 hours is not a great idea - it was the old regimes way of doing things and we paid the price in two relegations. Why keep on doing this? I may be wrong, but I for one am not impressed with the idea that it will all come good once the season starts. It has nothing to do with expecting cash to be splashed as such and it is not about patience...its all about proper preparation. If ML bought the club not thinking that there would be every likelyhood that we would need emergency resources very quickly, then he was poorly advised IMO.

My impression was that ML and his team DID know there would need to be urgent attention to the squad - the trouble is we're still waiting to see some sign that AP will be supported adequately to arrest the decline.

Pray tell me your definition of 'proper preparation' ?

You imply that major player decisions should have been made before the new management structure was in place and within a fortnight, how could this possibly come into the category of 'proper' ?

I am sure that AP is working hard on building a squad at the moment, it is we supporters who need to be patient !

Posted

charlton fans were giving ap stick saying he signed lots of average players hoping that some would work out. Maybe in his break hes decided to evaluate what he has, only buying players if he knows they will be better than what we have. Chances are hes working hard every day in the best interest of the club. We have some good players. We will sign some new players as and when they are available Things will come together - end of!

Its hard to be funny while my fellow SWF members appear to have gone mental. I am concerned that this 'swine flu' bug has killed the brains of a few of my SWF friends?

When they start to act normal again I hope to return to former self.

Thanks for your support

We're obviously way behind all the other clubs but that's no need for Pardew to panic buy, I expect there will be a couple of deadline day signings followed by a load of loans.

We have to face facts, we've had no summer to prepare and there is little chance of promotion even with a good team thanks to the -10 so panic buying doesn't make sense.

Posted
If we sign 7 players in the next week then yes I will be happy.

I don't want to keep worrying about it - I havent slept for a week.

Flippin' 'eck. You need to get out more.

To be fair I think/hope the majority on here are actually aware of the squads all too obvious weaknesses , most however aren't expecting years of neglect to have been completely corrected in two weeks .

As for your suggestion Sir that my brain has gone soft I can only reply that you are perfectly correct :(

I have an uncomfortable feeling that the ST ticket deadline has once again co-incided beautifully with the start to the season. And like other previous years, we all stump up our ST money hoping for a rejuvenated and improved team, only to be informed that there's no money to improve the squad. AP's latest commentary in the Echo on playing kids is not too encouraging - heard that one before have we not?

I know we've just been saved and we should be eternally grateful and all that stuff, but I hate feeling that I've been taken for a mug once again by paying my hard-earned for a sub-standard product.

Come on Markus and Alan - give us something to really cheer about so we can start this next season of games on a high. PLEASE!

I think this is the silliest thread I've ever read on here. Bargain priced STs, new regime, hope, what do you want? You sound like the sort of person Man City are hoping to convert to their new brand of bought-and-paid-for sporting success. I like the misery, the forlorn hope, the joy in small triumphs - that's why I'm a Saints fan, not a plastic. We will get there but remember - no pain, no gain.....

With us now being owned by one, successful competent and wealthy owner, for christ sake every one just be thankfull.I am more than happy to swap the constantly demoralising Lowe era for what we have now.

We now have a driven , motivated competent manager, who will undoubtedly build a decent team.

Of course we all want new players in quickly, but as we have not signed players this week, i reckon there will be good reasons.

We really must all be patient. We may not get promotion this year, but i for one would swap the next 5 years with a single stable owner, than 5 years under the previous ******.

The amount of 'stop whinging' posts are also very annoying. We are entitled to vent our frustrations and will continue to do so.

We need 7 or 8 new players (imo) I am frustrated as im sure AP is.

The season starts next week not in Sept, so players are needed yesterday not end of Aug.

oh because the season will be over by september wont it

FFS this whinging attitude that has graced this forum has become depressing!! Yes we need players, AP knows that, is it APs fault? No it isnt. Why do we have the same threads everyday????

By all means continue to vent your frustrations but dont go all defensive when people disagree with you!

I have said it before, but I will say it again.

Pardew would not have come to this (or any other club) if he didn't have cast iron agreements that he would have money to spend.

The new owners have shown that they dont do everything by shouting about it. They keep everything very quiet and close to their chest. Look at the way the take over occurred, the way AP was signed, and the way Harding was signed. Virtually the first thing anyone knew of these was when it was a done deal.

This is my 40th year of watching this club. I (and many poor other sods) can remember the Branfoot years, we have just emerged from the darkest times in the clubs 124 year history. We have a proven manager, (and a proven asst't) and no debts.

Yes we are in league 1 ... yes we are minus 10 points.

But I for one am looking forward to this season with more hope and anticipation than I have for years.

that is so typically saints being just content with your lot

Na, if this board is anything to go by the typical Saints fan would find some reason to complain if we'd just signed the entire Real Madrid squad. I can see it now

Why are you happy clappy morons celebrating? Slagado is past it and Sergio Ramos is ****

no wonder we have the fewest wins in the last 10 years oe so....

Sorry should we buy the entire Barcelona squad instead? ;)

The only thing that has changed IMO is that the squad is weaker than last season.

It highly depends on whether we can keep those Poles. If we can, we are better off than last season because we can score goals.

Sorry Sid, you are entitled to be optimistic and to disagree with the concerns being expressed, but a thread that has reached 3 pages in less than 24 hours and has over 2000 views can certainly not be called 'silly'.

Someone else possibly trying to take us for mugs may be the club that has bid for Rasiak. AP confirms the offer in the Echo report but maybe they think they can get can get him on the cheap because of the statements that he will leave if someone comes in for him.

Posted
But surely the 'market' is very slow ATM anyway? Not THAT many signings in any of the divisions from what I've seen.

If ML is as shrewd as has been reported, he's probably suggested 'we' play a quiet hand so 'we' don't get ripped off by agents / players / clubs thinking we've got a small fortune to spend (or even a large one).

I too agree with this. If they think we have plenty of cash agents will just go around looking to up the price on their 'merchantable assets', when they discuss things with us.

Unfortunatly, patience is the virtue here, and we must try and get out of the mind set that we have had for the last few years. This is a different set of individuals involved now, with no ties to the past, therefore lets not paint them with the same brush.
