How about players who's Surname could be a Christian name .... such as Charlie George, Eric Martin, Brian O'Neil and more up to date Wayne Thomas?

Or players who's name starts and ens with the same letter .. eg Adam Lallana?

Re the nativity play lets not forget Le God :prayer:

Nice fred, whiles away the time whilst we await our new signings ;)

George Lawrence

Could he also be included in the animal names, as in 'Chicken' George ?

Maybe he could team up with team up with John 'Budgie' Burridge and John Sydehham who was affectionately known as The RoadRunner, when got the ball it was beep beep and off he went :)

Unfortunately we;ve had far too many Turkeys, Headless Chickens and complete T!ts to mention , and one who shall remain nameless with his association of shooting ducks

Another Reserve player in the 1990s - Leroy WHALE

and during 1943-44 we had a POND and a DRINKWATER - I kid you not!

How could I forget about him, I went to school with him.

I almost hate to post this but during 1916-17 we had a PICKUP and a FRISBY in our side!

F. Pickup was a goalkeeper would you believe while W. Frisby was on loan from the newly formed RFC - that figures too.

Ahem...Peter Wells never played well.

I'll get my coat.

Used to play District and County schools football with Leroy Whale. He would have been a great player if he had a bit of pace.

It's funny you should mention Ali Dia, I was looking up the answer to a World Cup related question and came upon this on Wikipedia

Most goals scored, overall qualifying

35, Ali Daei ( Iran, 1994–2006).

Any chance that Souness got himself confused do you think??

The Iranian cousin of the Liberian international?

Would take a few drams for that one.... ;)

Yes Wayne Talkes (with an E) lived in Bitterne!

Crazy Diamond - I suppose before I gave out numbers I would have to know a bit more. Maybe Roy Beazely who used to tun the ex-Saints could help?

I could get his number.

Since I wrote that article of course we have had Aaaron Martin and Harlee Dean, both surnames that could be first names.

Whatever happened to H Dean?

Or at least I would, if I had permissions and all that kind of stuff to send one. Hmm, one wonders how we can do this. This is also my last post I'm allowed today. All going well isn't it!

Basically I'm trying to put together a documentary on life after football. I've got an interview with an ex-Saints academy kid who had to drop out of the game after snapping his achilles tendon and went into a different line of work, I'm in contact with a football development centre in Dorchester who take on kids who never made it and develop them a bit and try to find them clubs (like the Hoddle Academy in Spain) and ideally would like to speak to one or two ex-pros. I've thought about getting in touch with Mick, Manny Andruszewski and maybe a footballer turned manager. The documentary is an academic project and won't be broadcasted, though I have had interest from a freelance documentary maker who regularly pitches to ITV etc.

Your thoughts? I think I can receive PM's so drop me a line. Cheers.

Nope, given that Ali Daei was reasonably widely known by the time Ali Dia made his appearance, and no-one's going to confuse an Iranian with "George Weah's cousin".

Thanks, had DMG down but stuck him in the wrong line. I know it's Andrei, but I stuck him in the 'Andrew' bracket because I think (correct me if I'm wrong Russian Saints) it's the Russian version of Andrew.

Fair enough, have you had your sense of humour surgically removed or was that a deliberate attempt to sound big in that you knew who Ali Daei was ;)

OK - who was the Saints forward named after an actor in Bonanza?

'Little Joe' Jordan ?

or Hoss Cartwright if he played for us; he probably had a better turn of speed than Dowie or Paul Moody.

Didn't we once have a Wayne TALKS play for us once.

I used to get mail incorrectly delivered to my house for a Wayne Talks living in Bitterne Park. I wonder if it's the same guy.

Wayne Talkes was from the Isle of Wight like me, he went to the Fairway School in Sandown (I went to the Grammar next door, until the two were merged in 1970). He was on the books and regularly played for the Reserves at the same time as my "cousin" Brian Humber. Both ended up at Aldershot if I recall correctly. Brian never made a first team appearance, I think Wayne made a handful before he left. Sandown has quite a good reputation for young players, James Hayter is from there and for the older folks amongst us the Fulham, Bournemouth and Ipswich goalkeeper (not allowed to say Goalie evidently) Kieron Baker was a prefect at my school when I first joined.
