musesaint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 OK - we are in League 1 on -10 points I appreciate that AP is looking at new signings but let's be realistic ...given the current line up (and even allowing for some astute signings by AP) those who think we will be on -1 when we beat Swindon on 18/8 might want to brace themselves. It's going to be a much longer haul than that and will get very stressy along the way. Still it wouldn't be Saints without that would it?!
Hopkins Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Best not be bumpy. I stupidly put money on with my Brentford supporting housemate that we'd be ahead of them after 6 games. Pardew needs to get his act together and snap up Toure before City do.
CanadaSaint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 I'm braced. It's going to take time for us to acclimatize, with the "us" being AP, the players and the fans. Of the three, the fans will probably have the most trouble. I can see it now - "We're as good as 13 points behind", "... now it's sixteen points", "we're doomed", "I knew this Swiss dude was a phony", "Pardew's worse than Burley/Branfoot/Wigley/Wotte/Poortvliet", "Rupert's still back there somewhere", and so on. And that'll be before the end of August and the close of the transfer window. Meanwhile, inside the club, people who actually know what they're talking about will be plotting a top five finish, which is what we'll achieve.
Big Bad Bob Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Pardew needs to get his act together and snap up Toure before City do. If he ain't good enough for Arsenal he ain't good enough for us.. Oh, and in response to the OP :- No **** Sherlock!!
egreog Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 It will be bumpy because Saints and turbulence usually fit well in the same sentence........I'm not sure how the first few weeks will go.........either the current crop of players will blossom under AP's leadership or we will shortly find out how weakened the club is by recent departures...........my heart says it will be a good start, but my head tends to expect tough times in August/September

eurosaint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 I absolutely agree that it will be 'bumpy' ! The problem is that we have too many fans with unreasonable expectations, particularly concerning timings ! Some recent posts on here started accusing AP of being slow to make signings after only 5 days in the job which is clearly nonsense, others have already questioned ML's financial commitment less than one month after saving our club ! What chance do we have with people like this in our midst ?? We have to anticipate that the management team will do their best in difficult circumstances and see where that leads us. Beyond that, we have to evaluate our position every few months and improve where necessary. It may be that we get off to a flyer but if not, we will just have to be patient and realistic, which I know already will be impossible for some !!!
fromthedell Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 the way i see it is up till the 8th july it lloked like we may not have a football club anymore so i am expecting us to avoid relegation anything above that will be a bonus. but next season expect to get promoted
rallyboy Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Bumpy?? That's loser talk, negativity, you must be a skate, we'll walk this division, just like we walked the....oh, hang on, no we didn't, we were too ****y by half, it was tougher than we expected, maybe this one will be too.... Bumpy is a good description, it's reality check time for a few, if we win one of the first three we will be doing okay, I expect the squad to come together and improve greatly as the season goes on, though a few other teams going into admin would be most welcome just to take the pressure off a little. We will get there but it's gonna be a long haul and not for the faint-hearted. If it takes us maybe 8 games to clear the penalty, some losers will still be on 5 or 6 points above us so it could take 10 or 12 games to tick off safety? (but like everyone else, I am guessing wildly!)

Moe: “This thing can flash fry a Water Buffalo in 40 seconds.” Homer: “Ohhhhh, 40 seconds! but I want mine Now..”
scally Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Lets just enjoy winning a few games and starting to put right the shambles of the last few years, the play offs would be great but I'll settle for mid table.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 If Wooton and Pullis are in central midfield then Saints will lose every game. Hopefully Pardew has now seen how crap they are and will get some replacements in.
kpturner Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 It must be "state the bleedin' obvious" week. Haven't we already got a few threads like this?
