Ponty Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Well, I didn't see that one coming! A source has revealed that in line with current press speculation BMW have indeed announced to their workforce that they are pulling out of F1, with effect from the end of this season. The team is up for sale but winding down procedures will begin in September if a buyer is not found by then. Scary stuff and my heart goes out to the guys in Switzerland, especially the guy who used to work in my office who moved his entire family out there earlier this year.
O_RLY Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8173865.stm Ouch. Could see it coming though...
Arizona Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 I wonder if they could go back to being Sauber. I know they lost their main sponsor when Red Bull took over Jaguar, but I think Peter Sauber still features fairly predominantly in that team. Maybe Markus Liebherr could buy them.
Ponty Posted 29 July, 2009 Author Posted 29 July, 2009 Peter Sauber owns 20% of the team but there's no way he could fund the other 80%. He's said as much today.
Ponty Posted 5 August, 2009 Author Posted 5 August, 2009 All the other teams have signed up until 2012 minimum. I guess I won't have to listen to people telling me Renault are about to pull out any more. http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090805200954.shtml

Post-it note Posted 6 August, 2009 Posted 6 August, 2009 Oh dear Ponty... Renault to quit at end of season
