Midfield_General Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Picture the scene... Depleted, knackered, skint Pompey need to draw their last game to stay up. 1-1 with 5 mins to go, it looks like they're going to do it... then Saint Niemi let's the softest of 30 yard bobblers through his legs, it dribbles over the line, and the Skates go down. He turns and gives the slightest of winks to the camera as the blue few go berserk for his blood. I would love it. Just love it.

Seriously, players of that sort of calibre couldn't get away with that, could they?
NickG Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Seriously, players of that sort of calibre couldn't get away with that, could they? thought you were suggesting old keepers who didn't always try their hardest for some reason;)
Midfield_General Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Yep, that's what I had in mind when I was painting that little picture... even better if a 42 year old MLT had come out of retirement to score it, for Hull or someone (not that he'd ever play for anyone else...)
St Chalet Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 I rated Niemi when he was here. He left ultimately because: a) We were relegated with no chance of bouncing back that season. b) Dave Coles was sacked so Burley could bring in his buddy Webster. Paul Smith never looked the same after this either. He owes us nothing and had a right to earn a living and work with his mate.
mcjwills Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 If he goes then I'll be a bit disappointed but it won't change my opinion of him. Niemi is arguably the best keeper ever to wear a Saints shirt and fans should never forget his contribution to our club. If he joins P*mpey, then so be it. It's possible that David Coles has had a word with him and tempted him out of retirement, and maybe Niemi likes the idea of getting one last pay-cheque before hanging up his boots for good? Whatever happens, the guy was first-class for us and he should be remembered for the fantastic performances he produced during his time here, not for sitting on the bench at P*mpey for a season, picking up a nice pay-cheque in the process. Peter Shilton Neimi was very very good, but Shilts in his day was the best in the world at the time, I would have rated Neimi with Tim Flower in ability. If Neimi want a final Payday with the Blue Few well so be it, I only have one clause Anti, rip them off for as much money as you can.
NickG Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Anti was a very good keeper. But a county mile behind Shilton.
macthesaint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 They really are desperate if they sign a goalie who has had to retire due to injury. If they had a decent youth policy they might have been grooming an understudy to James. Antii will be returning to the scene of his worst game as a Saints keeper.Lets hope the jinx continues!
Al de Man Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 thought you were suggesting old keepers who didn't always try their hardest for some reason;) Were you thinking... + ?
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 I don't think I could stomach Niemi turning out in the Pompey blue. Get over yourself man!! - Get in the real world will you.
hypochondriac Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Get over yourself man!! - Get in the real world will you. Apologies for expressing a personal opinion you don't agree with
bpsaint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MalC_A3_z7g That video doesn't do that save justice,it needs to be played at normal speed to appreciate just how great it was. Like most people I'd be gutted if he went to Pompey, but to be honest he gave his very best years to us,didn't look half as good at times at Fulham, and now he wants to come out of injury forced retirement to be number 2 at Pompey? Money talks I suppose.
CB Saint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 After watching that save it brings back to me just how good he really was. He is a saints legend and served us admirably. He was the equivalent of a 25 goal a season striker IMO. If he chooses to go to Pompey, thats his decision. I'd rather he went to, say, west ham but if the skates turned up at SMS and he walked on the pitch I would stand up and applaud him.
gammon cheeks Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 What a ****ing **** if he does go there. I will not like him anymore . In fact i will have to call him a fish sha gging skate bas tard
hamster Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MalC_A3_z7g An amazing save imho requires an amazing shot. Like this one: Watch it up to the end for some real skill

bpsaint Posted 29 July, 2009 Posted 29 July, 2009 Yes, then he goes and does this: LOL Yeah that bounce just before I trapped it screwed me over and it bounced off my legs, was gutted!

corky morris Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 You cant underestimate the pull of Coles in his decision. He reckons that he was the best gk coach he ever worked with. TBH I am still a little disapointed, but not really surprised.
Frank's cousin Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Neimi still a leg - just helping out his old mate and looking after his own family - all this guff about it being pompey is pretty childish TBH...
bpsaint Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 You cant underestimate the pull of Coles in his decision. He reckons that he was the best gk coach he ever worked with. Agreed. I don't think its any coincidence David James' rise in form came shortly after the arrival of Coles.
capitalsaint Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Neimi still a leg - just helping out his old mate and looking after his own family - all this guff about it being pompey is pretty childish TBH... how very mature of you. in fact, while your at it, i've noticed that grown men running around after an inflated bit of leather is rather childish, why don't they all do some gardening or get their accounts up to date? football is tribal, everybody knows it and everybody accepts it. fair enough if niemi wants to help out david coles, all it means is his allegiances are to him as opposed to southampton (who previously paid his wages). act accordingly.
NickG Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Probably one of top 3 keepers at Saints in recent years, but embarrassing for skates to sign players coming out of retirement - should have stuck with Tranmere released players!
Saints Warrior Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Please let in 120 goals and be our hero for the season!!
NickG Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Shilton top - Neimi not even close Probably due to Neimi, Flowers, Grobelaar, Davies and of course Katalinic!
aintforever Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 He will get dogs abuse from the blue few if he screws up - would be great if he does.
Charlie Wayman Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article6730823.ece Who couldn't give a toss? Meme Meme
NickG Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Shilton top - Neimi not even close Probably due to Neimi, Flowers, Grobelaar, Davies and of course Katalinic! really not sure what order I would put those in???
1960saint Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 AGENT NEIMI will send pompey down in style, then will sign for southampton ....
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Pompey are desperate to pick up ex Saints players whenever they can. Class is permanent and Pompey want as much to rub off on them as they can.
Rattlehead Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 AGENT NEIMI will send pompey down in style, then will sign for southampton .... Hmm, that 4-1 is springing to mind right now. Agent Niemi indeed...
PaulSaint Posted 8 August, 2009 Posted 8 August, 2009 Well we may see if he is an agent of ours next week, James off injured against Rangers.
