Cabrone Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 Their "calibre" counts for NOTHING without desire... I read this yesterday...and interesting reading it is too... http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2009/07/clough_times_at_derby.html#115776 Good article. I'm a big fan of Nigel Clough (and was a big fan of his dad) and think he's going to become a top manager in time. If Derby stick with him they will do very well for themselves. If AP could emulate what NC is doing at Derby I'd be happy. This club desperately needs some stability now.
Clifford Nelson Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 With such complete lack of news it might be worth quoting the club's statement about Stern John in the following respect: "Saints wish to make it clear that our new executive team and first team management are working hard to recruit the right players to help enhance the squad and we hope to be able to announce further additions in the coming days." With the further news that the Radio Solent Forum has been delayed until September to make sure that the new players and executives are in place beforehand, there is in my estimation no reason to panic. Maybe we will have to get used to that things are done in a different way from now on.

We had no indication or leaks prior to harding signing...and that was just announced within hours one morning. People seem to be panicking that we actually do not have the funds - but i cannot see that being true. Why do you spend almost £15mill on a club to let it linger in league 1? You don't - he will want to get us back up and he will not achieve that without investment - Trust me, ML is not an idiot. Also...i don't believe Pardew would have joined us if he was only allowed to sign free's on low pay contracts. The money is there...it's just a case of finding the right players in a professional manner.
Clifford Nelson Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 But it is a positive thing not negative IMO. If we cut our cloth and grow through our own wealth creation you have a long term future. ML is not a young man in the Ambramovic group, and we dont know what provisions the club have if god forbid anything happened to him. Therefore if the club is strong on its own feet we wont have the spectre of financial woes again. Why is being prudent seen as a mistake in our society nowadays? I do expect him shortterm to feed some funds in but I do not ever expect to be up with the Man citys and Chelsea in buying star players. That is all Don't forget that there is also a Five Year Plan (haven't heard about them since the end of the Soviet Union) to return to the Premiership. It was clearly said that capital would be made available "appropriately" at all stages. There will be injections of money, but clearly in a planned and not panic stricken way. In the meantime we can look forward to local derbies, if not next year, the year after, unless Poopey falls past us whilst we are on our way up. Schaden freude! - One of the german expressions, like schweinhund for the previous regime, I'm practising in honour of ML.

It may even be that, in this 'five year plan' it has been decided that a 10 point penalty makes it unrealistic to spend large amounts of money on the coming season and that the big financial push could wait until next year. But surely you'd want to buy the bulk of your team now so that they play a season with each other and 'gel' [sic] properly. Then next season a few improvements!! Then next season a few improvements!! That's a decision that I will happily leave to 'der management'. Stability first, then steady improvement from now on. If we can scrape into the playoffs, or better, then I'm sure that all concerned would be delighted but I wouldn't expect to see any big money panic buying at this early stage. Even at my age, I'm prepared to be patient. I'm just thankful and relieved that we have a club and a team to support and that we have the financial backing to be able to take a long-term view. I couldn't believe that it hadn't become a talking point. It felt a bit like I was sitting on a secret. Well, panic's over then?

St Marco Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 I think after the initial furore of the new owners arrival, it will sink in to most that we have RL part 2 but with a much better PR face. The club they said from day 1 would have to stand on its own feet, and apart from a little bit here and there i suspect we will be run as a profit making company.I would keep back from lauding it over other fans as i think it may back fire on you. we are saved that is the best bit, the rest will be struggle and perhaps an initial putting in a bit of funds to help stave off the relegation thing, after that we will be much on our own. A leopard does not change its spots. Iam not against that by the way. So just spent £1m in League One (is that a record?) on a player beating supposedly Boro to him. Does this mean you were wrong again nickh?
