If the worst had happened

No. Saints forward/ winger after ww2, sold to Arsenal, but returned to saints when old and slow, before the likes of T. Paine and co appeared on the scene.I forget the exact dates;old age catching up.

I have just checked ITN, which makes MOG correct in my estimation.

Wasn`t that Don Roper?

My flatmate is a Charlton fan, had Southampton gone I thought I might buy a season ticket and go see games with him. I definitely prefer having the League One rivalry though.

There were a couple of days after the Pinnacle bid collapsed where I was so down in the dumps that I couldn't even contemplate going to a football game again.

I would have given up on football. It is getting rubbish anyway, too many benders like John Terry and Stevie G. But mainly because I can't imagine it ever feeling 'right' supporting someone else.

No alternative, I'm afraid, although when I'm not playing I go and support my local womens' team.

Incidentally, ThameSaint.. hope to be at Towersey for the Bank Holiday festival. Come to The Three Horseshoes and buy me a decent English pint: I should be playing a.... (surprise, surprise) whistle (!), or flute or summat.. Don't worry, I stand me rounds.:-)

You can't just transfer the passion I/we have for our team to another team, it just doesn't work like that. You might want another team to win (that would be Arsenal for me) , you might 'follow' another team (Ebbsfleet for me) , you might go and watch a 'local' team (the Thai national team for me - drew with Liverpool last week) but could you really say you supported any of those teams?

I would have followed whatever team rose from the ashes, whatever league they started in. If that didn't happen for any reason (though I can't see why it wouldn't) then I would just say I support Southampton, even if they no longer existed.

It would have been impossible to fully support another club

Would have looked out for the results of a few other clubs like Stoke where I went to university. Probably would have gone down the non - league route.

Also everyone has a scottish side so would have become more involved with following the fortunes of the blue brazil!!!

As far as football goes, Southampton is everything for me. I love football, because I love Southampton Football Club. I love my beautiful City, and for me, I support Saints because they represent and play for the City I love, was born and grew up in.

If Southampton never had a football team, I would never have got into watching football at all.

So for me, nothing could ever come close to replacing Southampton Football Club.

Family moved us down to Bournemouth when I was fifteen due to Dad's job, and I've grown to love this place too. I could throw a stone at Dean Court from where I live, so I'd probably have ended up watching AFCB with some of my friends here sometimes. I have, over the years, developed some affection for the Club too, but it would never be the same. I could never "support" them, and feel that indescribably passionate love that I feel for my Southampton.

Losing Southampton Football Club would have been simply unthinkable. :(

Thank you Markus! :)

Sadly, I won`t be there this year but it looks like a very good line-up this time. Edward II are playing up a storm since re-forming. A friend of mine, Simon Care, who plays melodeon in EII (as well as The Larkrise Band and lots of others!) says that they have been going down really well where ever they have played. I know that this is the wrong forum for this (apologies in advance!) but this video of Oysterband "morphing" into EII is excellent - even the drummers don`t miss a beat!

We (the group with whom I travel to matches) had decided to become a sort of "Barbarians" style of supporters; fans without a club. We intended to go to match once a month or so maybe at, say, Brighton, or Yeovil or Aldershot, Brentford, QPR, Palace, London Irish, Quins, Saracens - and a trip to Le Havre, maybe to see the Normandy Derby against Caen - you get the drift. The only Premiership club that was considered was Fulham as there was a general view that Roy Hodgson has got them playing some good football and because tickets are usually available.

Along with just about everybody else who has posted in this thread there was one local side that was not even considered.

After a very disappointing season and lead up to this, in every respect, I decided to takeover the running of a Southampton Senior side, have regretted that decision since ML came on board but have made a commitment, unless they sack me after a few games it will be midweek only for me, as for supporting another professional club...although I look with interest at a club I have liked since '83 I doubt I could support another club.

I have always had a soft spot for Sunderland[ I was a big Jim Montgomery fan from 1967,

even though he was not great on loan here in 1975]. However had the unthinkable happened, I would never have switched my allegiance from Saints to any other team.

I think that Sunderland were a lot of peoples "second team" after that FA Cup win, especially Bob Stokoes antics!

I would have been a plastic Barcelona fan, but I would have gone to the Neu Camp at least once. That would have meant I wouldn't have been as plastic as most so called man u fans as they havn't been to old trafford in their deluded lives.

a already am one hahah! but to be fair i do get to 1 or 2 games a season

i would have gone to watch fulham, relatively easy to get to by train, and cheapest season ticket you'll get in the prem!! (probably)!

Also i like their stadium although its a bit **** !

Why not Pimpey? Easier to get to by train and even sh!tier stadium!!

I would probably have gone with Hearts.

Not an English side, not playing in English league so there would be no betrayal.

Not one of the big two so would be guaranteed a certain amount of pain and anguish that i think i deserve.

Good enough to qualify for europe occassionally, if shortlived.

So yeah seems like a good option.
