JustMike Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Where has anyone said or suggested they want everything instantly? You're talking crap!! you did! by moaning about the fact we have only signed 1 player. and you think im talking crap? Do me a favour, go back and re-read your previous posts and think about the timescales in question as well as the years of carp we have had and how long, realistically it is going to take to rebuild. Have you also given thought to the fact we are on -10, in L1? How do you know that we havent already approached players only to be turned down?
saint_stevo Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Can someone tell me fromwhat date it'll be ok to start being worried about our (aparent) lack oF movement in the transfer Market. Serious question. August 8th
JustMike Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 that is a fact though..and the person backed it up by saying he doesnto blame AP in anyway...was just HOPING that we would have a one or two more additions to the squad. hardly "slating" as you call it well its hardly a ringing endorsement is it
JustMike Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 i love these debates, makes the day go quicker :-) and certainly beats the constant F5ing of old
The9 Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 that is a fact though..and the person backed it up by saying he doesnto blame AP in anyway...was just HOPING that we would have a one or two more additions to the squad. hardly "slating" as you call it Actually he was requesting the return of "euphoria" via "a boost (or 4)". Seems rather unfair when we haven't even got the opportunity to get 3 of the -10 points back for another week and a half ? Also, who is he criticising for a lack of signings if not the manager ? Anyway, apart from Harding, we've all but signed Murty if we want him and John's a distinct possibility, and we've just stuffed Hearts. You can't ask for much more than 3 likely signings and a comfortable win in a manager's first week... well, not unless you're being impatient.
trousers Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 August 8th End of next week then. Oh well, not long now...
The9 Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Can someone tell me fromwhat date it'll be ok to start being worried about our (aparent) lack oF movement in the transfer Market. Serious question. You should have started worrying about our lack of transfer activity on 4th May. However, All that stuff about admin and bankruptcy was just a smokescreen for our surreptitious spending of the £2.5bn on Cristiano Ronaldo, Eto'o, Beckham (on loan), Ibrahimovich, Landon Donovan (whoops) and investment into cryogenic technology to revive Bobby Moore, Rasiak and George Best.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 well its hardly a ringing endorsement is it AP would have known when he took the job that time was not on his side; he very quickly (within 2 days) came out and said the squad needs additions. Having identified the weaknesses added to our minus 10 start I just thought that perhaps more would have happened by now. AP has said that he’s been non-stop on the phone…..I am not blaming AP for the lack of additions, just concerned that the team is no where near ready.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 as am I but i do have confidence that it will be there or thereabouts come 8th August. Patience my friend :-) Hope you're right, but in my opinion we need 4 or 5 more players. I can see Rasiak going and John is now being linked again with Crystal P. Saga is off (at some stage) and still no news on Murty. I don't share your confidence i'm afriad but happy to be proven wrong.

AP has said that he’s been non-stop on the phone…..I am not blaming AP for the lack of additions, just concerned that the team is no where near ready. I think we are all concerned about the team however I take some comfort from the fact that AP has not rushed out and bought the first player he can think of. There are too many variables for that. For example the news today that SJ may not sign suddenly creates a possible need to sign an extra striker - I'd be disappointed if all the budget had been blown last week on CB's and midfielders. It is better to buy the right blend of players. For me the time to be concerned is towards the end of August when transfer window closing is getting close.
Guest flickjax Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 as am I but i do have confidence that it will be there or thereabouts come 8th August. Patience my friend :-) You cant go and buy 2-3 playrs on Friday the 7th august and then throw them straight in.....players need to gel wih their new teams so the quicker the better. Also Millwall is a home game and as such a must win especially as we are on -10 i thought we would have one or two more by now or at least Murty/John tied up.... Also still no backroom team, that is very worrying in my eyes.

AP has said that he’s been non-stop on the phone…..I am not blaming AP for the lack of additions, just concerned that the team is no where near ready. If you think not having additions to the squad in that timescale is the problem, and accept that the manager is the one dealing with that, I don't think it's in any way credible to say you don't think the manager is to blame for the lack of additions. Or are you blaming other clubs for not selling to us, the saviour of the club for not funding the identified transfer targets, or the phone network for dropping all the calls at critical moments ? Personally I'm happy with the progress that seems to be made and that we'll sign John and will also sign Murty if we want him. If we miss out on John due to Palace paying him more, then that helps us work out where we sit regarding the owner's financial approach (even if it's not necessarily what people want to see). A couple more signings of well-regarded experienced players at this level or slightly higher by the start of the season would be good news, some of those kind of players in the loan market in the next couple of months on top of that would be even better, and hopefully we'll win more than we lose early in the season and push on from there. Those are my expectations, I don't think they are unreasonable, and I'm prepared to wait. If Pardew can get 10 of the ex-academy players looking like seasoned pros by May I'll be even happier.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 blame pinnacle then, they wasted the time. AP is right to not rush out and panic buy. Why is acting quickly necessarily ‘panic buying’?
JustMike Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Why is acting quickly necessarily ‘panic buying’? if he had bought 4 or 5 players into the squad in his first seven days it could easliy have been deemed panic buying, depending on who they were of course. Id be more worried if AP had done nothing at all and came out saying that we are stuck with what we have.
Saint J 77 Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Surely Alan Pardew only accepted to become the Saints manager with the guarantee there would be money made available for new players? He must of told the owners he would need a certain amount to turn things around before signing on the dotted line? I would love to know that figure. I don’t think he would have become the new boss without some sort of assurances he would have money to spend, otherwise why drop down to a 3 division team with minus 10 points starting point? I mean signing up for a challenge is one thing but without any new signings (as in more than a few) he’d need a miracle and it will only further put a black mark on his CV after the Charlton blip. So I have to conclude he has money to spend and he has his targets but we are just going to have to wait a little longer as he gets them signed up. I just hope like most of us here, there are some deals completed before the season starts.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 How long will the team need to gel this season? Prepare for some "This is a rebuilding season" and "Ill be happy just to stay up" threads within 2 months
SNSUN Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Sod signings per se, I'd be happy to see a few Trialists. If there are so many frees out there, we don't have to jump the gun and contract them, just bring them in and see how they get on, then decide whether to sign them. We've seen from trialing Murty that he can do a job for us, It'd calm my nerves just to see a couple of new faces about, ours or not. :-D
The9 Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Prepare for some "This is a rebuilding season" and "Ill be happy just to stay up" threads within 2 months I think a lot of people will be happy with that right now from -10. It's not like we have any League One experts in our midsts who can guarantee that last season's squad would have bounced back up, etc.

I cant see that many would be happy to 'just stay up' infact i'd be very ****ed off.
damers Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 It is getting a little frustrating, but I feel its the high we were all on after the takeover that we want more of that feeling, and some hope going forward. Im sure they are working hard in the back ground but that doesnt give us the buzz we crave!

Saints fans arent allowed to get carried away......
damers Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 But you have to feel the lows (god we have had enough) to appreciate the (few) highs! Damn it felt good......

JustMike Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 actions speak louder than words but not in 7 days ;-)
NickG Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 He has only had them play for him once at Hearts - would rather he decided exactly what we need and best player for it rather than rushing to appease fans or to do better in first two games.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Agreed! Am I correct in thinking that even AP stated he is aiming at promotion this season? Yep, he said “Top 2 is the target”
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 but not in 7 days ;-) he was appointed on the 17th - thats 11 days

Gingeletiss Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 We've had this debate on another thread OBS and DD and I.......they felt I was totally wrong to have this 'commonsense' approach......so I agreed to differ. As I tried to get across (Unsuccessfully), that I would be made up if we got promoted, but equally, I would not be disappointed if we didn't. I tried to point out that ML has come in to this, with a long term plan, but these two fine gentlemen, seem to think that plan should be executed in a few weeks..........

Listen – we clearly have different opinions and expectations, that is fine – this forum would be rubbish without it. What I do object to is you making crap up! - Where have I or DD questioned or said we are against a 'commonsense' approach? - Where have we said that this must happen in a few weeks? All I/we have said and will continue to say is we expect to compete this season (AP has said top 2, so he agrees) I/we have also said that we expected/would have liked more movement in the transfer market by now. Keep up or back off – just don’t make up **** to justify your opinion.
SNSUN Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 That is quality, we have our first MUST WIN game of the season.... Don't be so bloody stupid.. All games are must wins, realistically. Our first sight should be set on avoiding relegation. The sooner that happens, the more we'll all sleep better in our beds.

Saint Billy Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=396745&postcount=42 Thats a bit more like it if confirmed! Surely, if decent signings cannot be made by freebies or loans this has to be the way to go.
Guest flickjax Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 That is quality, we have our first MUST WIN game of the season.... Don't be so bloody stupid.. Its not Bloody stupid, I believe we need to win all our home games and the sooner we get back to 0 the better.

Well you are also deluded and will be sadly disappointed. We are not going to turn into a good team over night. Patience is needed, it seems some still have none.
NickG Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Peterborough lost 9 and draw 11 last year. Crewe stayed up with 12 wins. I am sure nothing will be decided, either way, after Millwall game. Its not time to panic.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Its not time to panic. We're Saints. It's always time to panic!
Jonnyboy Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Prepare for some "This is a rebuilding season" and "Ill be happy just to stay up" threads within 2 months I will be happy with top half this season...
landford.saint Posted 28 July, 2009 Posted 28 July, 2009 Less than 1 month ago we were seriously worried wether we would have a club to support at all. Today we have no debts at all... nothing, zip, diddley squat, zilch, and we have a club to support as well... I for 1 am just gratefull for that.. ML is from what I have read a very careful and astute businessman who does not splash out cash just for the sake of it.. He is not afraid to spend if the oppertunity or situation or appropriate financial possibility arises. I for one am happy to have him at the helm (even at a distance)... He will bring something to this club we haven't had for a few years now... Financial security and stability .. AP would not have taken on this job if he knew he hadn't got a transfer kitty... There has been a pleasant lack of rumours/leaks coming out of SFC since ML took over. No news/ leaks doesn't mean nothing is going on ... Just thaty nothing is being leaked about it.
