SFC Forever Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I agree with a lot that to attain such a high position we will need some more players. AP is not a fool and he will know already how poor we are in some positions and be planning to do something about it.

We have a good manager but we have next to no backroom staff. We have minus 10 etc etc Until at least 4 or 5 players of ability come in then we will be very lucky to stay in this league. Aim as high as we can aim, but you would be a fool to expect us to go for playoffs this year, maybe crazy to expect promotion. This season will be a set-up for the following which im sure we will get promoted during. This year is about building that team for that push.

Yes, we need a couple or three more decent players, however I guess you did not see the performance on Saturday? We humbled Hearts and what's more we turned it on in the 2nd half rather than get turned over in the 2nd half. Different looking team. The new full-backs and Thomas back made a difference. Lallana looked like a new player. We're not too far off I would suggest and capable of a mid-table position as is. The key will be in AP finding the right players now to make a difference particularly central midfield - i.e. a Wotton replacement is essential so more passes in midfield go to a Saints player. Gillett is OK, but lacks the flair to create any real opportunities. Complete rethink at CM is needed IMO - then we'll be OK.

Two more weeks before the start of the season and another four weeks till the window closes so there could be a lot of comings and going before then. Prefer to see how the land lies then before making any claims for a potential top six place.

However, once we have hopefully made signings a top six place could be possible, it just depends whether we hit the ground running or not.
St David Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I think that with us keeping Kelvin Davis it's as good as saying the other teams in the league will drop 10 points over the season as they dont have a keeper of his quality. I think by christmas it will be a level playing field for this reason alone.

I didn't see the performance on Saturday but don't forget the same squad barring the addition of Harding lost how many pre-season games? I know I know new manager and all but the team does need work. That said I'm optimistic but I also was last year
