Flyer Posted 3 September, 2008 Posted 3 September, 2008 Not interested in FM Live, I think it will bomb because I dont think people will pay £100 to play for a year. I will play 09 though, good to see them filming at the home of English football too.
saint_stevo Posted 3 September, 2008 Posted 3 September, 2008 i switch match highlights off so no biggy for me!
saint_stevo Posted 3 September, 2008 Posted 3 September, 2008 play.com says release end of October....... http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=Football+Manager&page=search&pa=search
Mattio Posted 3 September, 2008 Posted 3 September, 2008 My laptop will never run that 3D engine smoothly, therefore FM09 will be ghey...
Matthew Le God Posted 3 September, 2008 Author Posted 3 September, 2008 My laptop will never run that 3D engine smoothly, therefore FM09 will be ghey... You don't have to use the 3D engine. It is an option. You can instead use the normal 2D engine instead if your PC wo't cope with 3D.
stevegrant Posted 4 September, 2008 Posted 4 September, 2008 The 3D engine is a waste of time and goes against everything that Championship Manager and Football Manager have always been about. The text-based engine always left more to the imagination than the "visual" engines, which was one of the main appeals of CM. Now it's just like any other football management sim...
Gully Posted 4 September, 2008 Posted 4 September, 2008 You don't have to use the 3D engine. It is an option. You can instead use the normal 2D engine instead if your PC wo't cope with 3D. What sort of spec would be needed to play the 3D? Because if its rediculously high and most can't use it then it seems silly. Does look good though IMO.
SuperMikey Posted 4 September, 2008 Posted 4 September, 2008 I agree with SteveGrant about the 3D engine. Even if it is optional, I still don't like it. I always thought the charm of FM was the 2D game engine, because you don't get that on any other football managing sim like you do on FM. I just feel that the game has lost a bit of its originality now. Nevertheless, I shall be buying it in November, so i'll quit b*tching about it.
saint_bert Posted 5 September, 2008 Posted 5 September, 2008 I will only use the text based commentary feature HTH

Ludwig Posted 5 September, 2008 Posted 5 September, 2008 Everyone said that when the 2d engine was introduced. Never liked that either tbh.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 September, 2008 Author Posted 5 September, 2008 What sort of spec would be needed to play the 3D? Because if its rediculously high and most can't use it then it seems silly. Does look good though IMO. I don't know. But I would guess there would be lots of graphical options to make it work on near enough every PC to some extent. If you don't like it or it doesn't work then just use the 2D engine or commentry only as you've done in the past.
Andy_Porter Posted 5 September, 2008 Posted 5 September, 2008 Never liked that either tbh. Brings an added element to game play imo, im skeptical about the 3D engine but i'll see how it plays before I judge it.
J Bizzle Posted 6 September, 2008 Posted 6 September, 2008 I hope its going to be more realistic, the likes of reading and Derby are simply way too good. Will Doyle really be bought for £21,000,000 by Milan? i think not. will David Jones go back to Man U for £14,500,000? i think not. Southampton researcher generally did a good job, but i still edit a lot of stats becaus some of them are absolute rubbish. One more thing, Thomson is a -9, why are his stats so ****?
Matthew Le God Posted 6 September, 2008 Author Posted 6 September, 2008 Southampton researcher generally did a good job, but i still edit a lot of stats becaus some of them are absolute rubbish. What exactly was wrong? Remember Saints were rubbish last season and I have to stick to guidlines based on the teams position. One more thing, Thomson is a -9, why are his stats so ****? Because he is still along way from the finished article. The -9 is his potential if you train him well and give him 1st team experience or loan him out he will become a very good player on the game.
J Bizzle Posted 6 September, 2008 Posted 6 September, 2008 What exactly was wrong? Remember Saints were rubbish last season and I have to stick to guidlines based on the teams position. Because he is still along way from the finished article. The -9 is his potential if you train him well and give him 1st team experience or loan him out he will become a very good player on the game. Having looked at his stats on genie scout and editor, i can say his stats are truely awful for a -9. it was mainly physical stats, Dyer should have 20 for pace, agility, and balance should be higher. there are several more of these issues with others.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 September, 2008 Author Posted 6 September, 2008 (edited) Dyer has 19 for pace and acceleration which make him one of the fastest players in the game! As for Thomson, -9 is his potential not his current ability, he is still young and learning. His CA has been increased abit for FM09. You have to remember I have to work to guidlines. So for a team that finished in the bottom 1/4 of the league in 2007/2008 has 3 or 4 star players in one pre defined bracket of ability range. The majority of the squad in another pre defined bracket. Finally the rest in the pre defined bracket below this including youth players. Thomson has only recently come out of the youth teams. I am fully aware of Thomsons potential and his potential rating I have given him make him one of the best young English players in the game. Edited 6 September, 2008 by Matthew Le God
bungle Posted 7 September, 2008 Posted 7 September, 2008 I like the look of the new press conferences (should have happened ages ago, IMO), but see no point to the 3D engine. It doesn't add anything. I like the 2D one, but you don't need anymore than that.
saintkiptanui Posted 7 September, 2008 Posted 7 September, 2008 zx spectrum original football manager with little stick men, nice and easy, no tactics, just buy john currie and make sure the morale is high.
SuperSAINT Posted 7 September, 2008 Posted 7 September, 2008 I'd be more worried about player positions then potential ratings... Jake Thomson can only play MC on mine.
Matthew Le God Posted 7 September, 2008 Author Posted 7 September, 2008 I'd be more worried about player positions then potential ratings... Jake Thomson can only play MC on mine. he is a right midfielder on the game
Andy_Porter Posted 8 September, 2008 Posted 8 September, 2008 Do you get paid to be the FM researcher? That must be an awesome job.
Matthew Le God Posted 8 September, 2008 Author Posted 8 September, 2008 Do you get paid to be the FM researcher? That must be an awesome job. Payment comes in the way of a free copy of the game. Not alot in terms of financial value compared to the hours you put in but there are a few other perks to the role
mynameisthehulk Posted 8 September, 2008 Posted 8 September, 2008 I will give the 3d engine a go, if its rubbish I'll just change to 2d. -9 PA is actually pretty good 160-190 I think?
Ash Posted 8 September, 2008 Posted 8 September, 2008 The winky thing makes it look like you are getting sexual favours in return for doing the research, is this the case? It was nothing to do with your stats but I found the last FM useless, I haven't played it since last Christmas and, as a lazy layabout student with nothing to do, that is shocking. I hope the next one is better but I certainly won't be pre-ordering again until I have heard the state of the game on release.

Matthew Le God Posted 10 September, 2008 Author Posted 10 September, 2008 Can anyone tell me if the PSP version will have all the same features as the PC version apart from the 3d match engine. Thanks It will have most of them. You have to remember it is a slim-lined version of the PC/Mac game

Tac-tics Posted 11 September, 2008 Posted 11 September, 2008 Can someone help me, how is -9 Potential Ability good?I thought the higher the score (not beyond 200) then better they are?
