lordswoodsaints Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 As reported in todays papers he is expected to sign for spurs for £10m Since leaving saints he has been transfered a total of approx £30m Is he really worth that? was he that good for us? Did we mug Liverpool or did they get a bargain? I know he is an England international and that in someway dictates his price but I just can't see why he is so valued Ok he did well for us in a short spell but he didn't really do anything to set the world alight. My best mate (Pompey fan) says that he has been crap since he arrived and has got worse since redknapp left so he isn't too bothered about his departure,he is more worried about hart's statement - 'due to the financial situation here we were forced to sell him'. I wish crouch well as he is a nice fella and he did nothing wrong for us,I just can't understand why people rate him high enough to pay double figure millions for him. Saying that I would like to see him here again one day If only to see his mrs sat in the crowd:-)
eelpie Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I hope Spurs fans sing "Crouchie Crouchie, Crouchie, Used to be a skate but he's alright now"
JohnnyFartPants Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I think he just looks awkward which masks a lot of good things he does on and off the ball. I really rate him.
RonManager Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Saying that I would like to see him here again one day If only to see his mrs sat in the crowd:-) Perhaps we should sign her up?
Thedelldays Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 thing is with crouch...he is unique really...a decent target man who is pretty darn good with the ball at his feet.. sure he has been crap at pompey, but thy were playing him as a lone striker...that i not his game really (like rasiak)...he did well for us when he had quick players around him pulling defenders around...crouchie does get you 15+ goals a season really... Personally, I Think Arsenal have missed a trick..they are after a new striker and he would fit in perfectly with the players they have IMO

He's been ok, underperformed a little maybe but like you said, it doesn't help with the team disintegrating around him. He's been awesome of England though, and he really is a worthy international footballer.

I really like crouch good footballer, good pro and seems to be one of the good guys... Hope he does well at spurs and Arry does know how to use him talent properly..im sure Crouch with defoe/keane will be pretty darn good
Flyer Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I think he just looks awkward which masks a lot of good things he does on and off the ball. I really rate him. Hes got better feet than people give him credit for but is worse in the air than he should be. I rate him too,he should be an England regular.
kpturner Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 He likes going back to old hunting grounds doesn't he?! Pompey twice, now Spurs twice. I expect he'll be back at Saints in about 3-4 years when we first get back in the Prem :-)
dellgirl Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I'm sorry he has gone to Spurs,I would have thought he knows 'arry would sell him down the river again if something better came up for the slithery one. I would prefer him to go to Fulham,as I'm sure the London option is more to do with his "missus" and her shopping than his career path ,he was a lovely chap when he was with us and I hope he still is..but we know what " celebrity girlfriends " can do to a decent player, although Cheryl seems to be the exception to the rule.

SNSUN Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Was it 7 million we got for him from Liverpool? At the time i thought we mugged them, but in terms of potential it was a good deal for both sides! We always seen to mug teams! Just look at Kenwyne Jones. And we got Stern John in part exchange.

I think in todays market he is a very good buy at ten million. I think the real issue here lordswood is your revelation that your best mate is a pompey fan....... how can something as unfortunate as that happen!!??
RedArmy Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Villa must kick themselves every time he is sold. £2m. LOL. Every single club he's played for has made a profit on him, except for Villa who lost £3m (?)
Arizona Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Villa must kick themselves every time he is sold. £2m. LOL. Every single club he's played for has made a profit on him, except for Villa who lost £3m (?) Yep. Think Taylor bought him for £5m from Pompey to feed his beanpole striker fettish. Then O'Leary came in and didn't rate him. Pompey got a good price at £10m IMO, but only if they bring in a decent replacement. Their squad could give ours a run for it's money in the "bit patchy" stakes.
aintforever Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I don't rate Crouch as a top striker, he's good to have as a sub but lacks any pace or mobility. I actually prefer England when they play Heskey up front.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Redcrap must be on a percentage, "you'll never see that money for Crouch again" then he not only once but twice pays more ?? I would of thought someone more prolific than Crouch would be available for 10 mil but pleased for him as he does come across as a decent bloke, however, don't care if he doesn't score one goal for them and they along with his old team get relegated.

I actually prefer England when they play Heskey up front. Yeah right......their scoring ratio per match is very simalar....not!!!!. If that was a criteria, Crouch would be one of the most successful England strikers in recent years.
aintforever Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Yeah right......their scoring ratio per match is very simalar....not!!!!. If that was a criteria, Crouch would be one of the most successful England strikers in recent years. Most of his goals were against poor opposition
Thedelldays Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Most of his goals were against poor opposition so...
aintforever Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 so... Scoring goals against part timers doesn't mean you are a top striker.
Thedelldays Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Scoring goals against part timers doesn't mean you are a top striker. well..capello thinks so, i will take his judgement over yours thanks..
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 That goal he got at the Riverside in our relegation season was one of the classiest finishes I have seen from a Saints striker.
aintforever Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 well..capello thinks so, i will take his judgement over yours thanks.. I bet he doesn't make Cappello's first team if he has a full squad to pick from, just like he was a bench warmer at Liverpool.
explorer saint Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 crouch is a southener/londoner..not shocked really that he wants to stay in london.. as for celebrity missus..they have been together for years and we dont really hear much about them in a bad way... Yep Crouch was never going to sign for Sunderland, he loves playing for harry and when there was a sniff of a move to stay in the south, his mind was made up. He has only fairly recently moved into a new house down here.
Thedelldays Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 I bet he doesn't make Cappello's first team if he has a full squad to pick from, just like he was a bench warmer at Liverpool. i doubt he will either...that would make him one of the best 11 players in the country...that he is not..im sure he will be at the World cup (barring injuries of course) and a great option on the bench
Crab Lungs Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Yep. Think Taylor bought him for £5m from Pompey to feed his beanpole striker fettish. LOL Ormondroyd.
red&white56 Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Redcrap must be on a percentage, "you'll never see that money for Crouch again" then he not only once but twice pays more ?? Now there's a choice - Crouch or Heskey, personally I'd have them both in the England squad but I would definitely start with Hesky - he links up better with Rooney.
lordswoodsaints Posted 26 July, 2009 Author Posted 26 July, 2009 I think crouch is quality, i have liked him ever since i first saw him play for qpr and was made up when saints signed him. I think the real issue here lordswood is your revelation that your best mate is a pompey fan....... how can something as unfortunate as that happen!!?? Sorry mate, been best mates for 30+ years so it's difficult to ditch him :-) it's a long story but I have to say he has been to more saints games than a lot of saints fans he even had a trip to hamburg in 84.
VectisSaint Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 crouch is a southener/londoner..not shocked really that he wants to stay in london.. Given that Arry is about the only one who has clearly understood how to play Twizzle, it is no surprise at all that they have linked up again. I don't give Arry much credit, but he gets the best out of Crouch, realising unlike others that Crouch cannot play as a lone striker, and is not a very good header of the ball. What Crouch brings is the ability to hod the ball up, to provide knock-downs for other players (such as Owen for England) and a much underrated ability with his feet. If you expect Crouch to score with his head often then you will be sadly disappointed. Benitez and Hart seem not to have realised what they had or how best to utilise him. Arry did.
Hopkins Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Saw that mug Redknapp claim he'd signed Crouch several times the other day. No, once again you are talking ****e sir. You have signed him once. Berk.
chocco boxo Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 How much has Arry made out of him??? I bet Crouchies agent loves Mr Red*****.
westofshannonsaint Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 How much has Arry made out of him??? I bet Crouchies agent loves Mr Red*****. Has Crouch ever moved club without Arry being involved?
AlfredKo Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Has Crouch ever moved club without Arry being involved? Paul Sturrock bought him from Aston Villa, not Harry.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Paul Sturrock bought him from Aston Villa, not Harry. Not wishing to stir up an old debate but I think Lowe claimed the "kudos" for the Crouch signing - or at least his supporters did.
revolution saint Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Legend if only for that interview he did where someone asked him what he would be if he wasn't a footballer. His reply was "virgin".
westofshannonsaint Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Not wishing to stir up an old debate but I think Lowe claimed the "kudos" for the Crouch signing - or at least his supporters did. true - I forgot about that
NickG Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Certain ex=chairman described him as the most articulate and decent footballer he has ever dealt with
Eyes k8 Posted 26 July, 2009 Posted 26 July, 2009 Fee not settled yet. I'm not bothered about him going.
chocco boxo Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Certain ex=chairman described him as the most articulate and decent footballer he has ever dealt with As he did with Delgado!
Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 spurs hav agreed a price and he is virtually a spud..
InvictaSaint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/crouchdealagreed270709.html P*mpey fans on their message board going bonkers about the fact the Spurs site put up this info before their own OS....
lee_saint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 Decent bloke off the pitch.....It's rare for a Skate to get respect from Saints fans, but with Crouch I think it's true.
saint lard Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 From the Skate OS....... Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that striker Peter Crouch has joined Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee. A club spokesman said: “We are sorry to see Peter go both as a player and a person and would like to thank him for playing a key role in keeping the club in the Premier League last season. “His sale was necessitated by the club’s commitment to repay scheduled debts while we are in a transitional period of completing the takeover. “We will now be looking to add fresh faces to the first-team squad as soon as possible.” Crouch joined Pompey from Liverpool last summer for his second spell at the club. Last season he was Pompey’s top scorer with 16 goals from 49 appearances. Crouch opened his second Blues account at Goodison Park in a 3-0 victory over Everton last August and netted a crucial extra-time brace against Vitoria to put Pompey into the group stages of the UEFA Cup. One of Pompey’s Three Lions, he added six England caps to his tally during his time at Fratton Park, taking his total to 34. His most recent appearance for England came in June when he scored the final goal in the 6-0 hammering of Andorra in a World Cup qualifying match. It means he has now notched 16 goals for his country. Crouch’s first spell at Pompey came when he joined from QPR in 2001. He made an immediate impact, scoring 18 league goals in 37 starts. The striker joined Aston Villa for £5m in March 2002 and after time on loan at Norwich signed for Southampton and then Liverpool. Transitional period.....repay Scheduled debts, they are in the mire if this "takeover" collapes, methinks.
Clapham Saint Posted 27 July, 2009 Posted 27 July, 2009 I think he just looks awkward which masks a lot of good things he does on and off the ball. I really rate him. +1.
